P&p; better after an hour. A bit disjointed on the nose; oak with coffee, nutmeg and vanilla aspects, some lemon peel, flowers, and light appley fruit. Comes together somewhat better on the palate, thanks to good tart acidity. What character and complexity it has seem to come in large part from the oak barrel, but thankfully some nice lemon and floral (jasmine? lilac?) notes come through. Fresh and enjoyable... for an overoaked chard.

Dark ruby with garnet edges. Violets, black currants and some oak on the nose. Mellow, substantial, with dark plums, wild cherries and black currants on the palate. Some oak. Good balance with soft, mature tannins.
This wine may be at its best now, but can still take some years before it's definitely past its prime.

One of the most consistently good but cheap wines in the market. Deep violet purple in colour, dark Crimson floral nose. Medium bodied with good intensity. Good acidity and medium finish.

O velho Catena Malbec!

This is full of life and energy, will last still long. Perhaps not as impressive as the last bottle, but still a great wine. Not the most balanced one out there, but nicely the oak not overpowering.

Perhaps this wine represents the biggest surprise of the year. I certainly expected it to be good, but to be one of the best Chardonnays I have tasted I did certainly not expect. The 2010 White Stones has one of the most intriguing, well-balanced and integrated Chardonnay noses I have ever come across. After some time in the glass there is lovely fruit, apricots, tangerine, sun warm lemon zest combined with white flowers on a sunny summer meadow by the ocean. Adding tho this is a profound minerality and rock solid structure. This wine is certainly elegant, but there is also a texture and structure providing a nice backbone and creaminess. The palate adds even more to the overall experience. Perfectly balanced and integrated it provides a lovely mouth coating feeling - almost cream like in its viscosity - but with a razor sharp texture... Power, elegance, silkiness and a profound experience is what this wine offers today. There is no doubt some time in the cellar will help developing the wine even further, but it certainly is a treat tonight too given a proper decant, or just some time in the glass. (score is a rock solid 96+)

Fine, restrained nose with dark fruits predominant. Good deep colour and expressive nose when it opened.
Lovely, typical Malbec with a great balance of rich, sweet fruit, spice, gentle acidity and tannin. Elegant, quite meaty, and long. Went very well with roast beef, tasted side by side with a much younger Vistalba Corte C 2013 which was a very drinkable, good wine but not quite in this league.
A fine wine, as expected from Catena Zapata.
Still plenty of life - no need to hurry......

This is starting to drink well. Opened and let air for 90 min. Once again dark fruit and spice but with a more expansive mid palate than previous bottles 2 and 4 years ago. Beautiful wine.

Opaque brick red, medium legs.
Intense fruity, woody, chocolaty nose.
Full body, silky texture, soft tannins, good acidity, definite but not excessive heat, long palate.
Herby, fruity, almond, blackberry, alcohol.
Delicious, my idea of red wine.

Pretty aromatic and intense on the nose. Notes of spices, stone fruit, mango, apple, orange blossom.
Palate is big, fat, and modern. Ripe fruits, mango, melon, peach, stone fruits.
Oak aspect comes more to the fore as the wine warms up in glass.
Feels quite forced and overwrought.

Cannot imagine how this is going to improve any.

Midsummer eve grilled meats and wine (home): rancid butter on the first whiff, although it quickly fades. Leaving a full bodied, modern style, oaky cab franc that is very far removed in style and appearance from its distant cousins in the loire valley. Go easy on the new oak for crying out loud! there seems to be excellent fruit underneath and you could make the call that you should store this for 10 yrs or so, but I just worry that it will come apart at the seams before all that new oak is fully integrated. let's see how it fares with grilled meat tonight. after all, it's an argentinean.

This wine comes into its own after several hours in the decanter. Much better but still not close to what I think could be achieved with such material.

A classic! I bougth the bottle back in 2009 and it is still showing potencial to evolve for many years.Left in decanter for 90 minutes. As soon as yo open the bottle a deep ruby, beatiful massive red colour show that this is a wild horse. In the nose, a explosion of ripe plum jammy flavours with a soft, supple mouthfeel. After 30 minutes, develops a intense black berry fruit with spicy black pepper and clove. After 1 hour, provides elegance and freshness on the palate with a flavor profile of red berry fruit, with some floral, with hints of violets and a long persistent finish of cassis flavors and mineral notes. A master piece.

Bouquet of violets, gravel, peppers, blood, and ores. The wine tastes as it smells, showing a juicy attack, then exploding at the mid palate with considerable grip and mineral-driven, tannic structure. Medium plus acid, medium tannin, full body, very long. Sampled this alongside the 2009 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Adrianna Vineyard, and this was the fuller, more substantive wine. Approachable now, and two to three years of cellaring should serve it well. 94-95.

Deep purple core. Precise bouquet of black and blue berries, violets, herbs, sappiness, cracked pepper, dust, mineral ores, and crushed granite. Ultra polished and smooth on a palate that tastes as it smells. Medium to medium plus body, medium plus acid, light tannin, well balanced, wholly agreeable finish, utterly delicious.

This is unlikely to be a long-lived wine as it does not have the substance one might expect from the mid palate back. A reasonable comparison to this wine is the 2009 Cheval des Andes, which is a more rounded, substantive wine. Drink through 2025.

Every element to this wine exudes class; it's what is not there that might reasonably leave the fortunate taster hanging.
