Wonderful viscous dessert wine. Tastes of caramel, raisins, figs, chocolate. Different from anything I have ever tasted before. I suspect it is great for several years more, at least...

Very good. Same notes as previous, but this time I really noticed the 17% alcohol. Lots of heat at the back end.

This remains an unusual dessert treat, as unctuous as one might imagine given that this is all 1971 vintage sherry. Dark chocolate brown in color, with full candied chocolate nose and earthy tones. the taste remains well balanced with alcohol and mild acidic reinforcement of the underlying chocolate fruit orange and smokey flavors. Not subtle but a nice treat every decade or so--and it will last that long.

Best bottle #3 (@Private location): Incredible wine. Motor oil! Super complex aromas in nose and palate. Dry fruits, honey, nuts, coffee, chocolate and great acidity which buffers the sweetness perfectly. Looong finish. Immortal! Lovely!

Came at the end of a long wine dinner and it was a great way to finish. Very much alive and firm, nutty, light cocoa , rich, light oxidative , dark fruits. Will last another 50 summers easily and continue to evolve. Very good. 91-92.

Sweeter than the savory, figgy 85, if memory serves, big and syrupy, with lots of vegetal PX axle-greasy flavors and lots of chocolate. Pretty hard to resist and I bet this would do interesting things with another decade + bottle age.

This seems a little lighter on its feet than the 2010, but still with that motor-oil, green, rancio-like herbal quality, though maybe with less length. But who cares, really, it's delicious and has just enough balance to drink.

Friends, what do you think the end of the drinking window would be for the half bottle? Perhaps I should drink it now. The average drinking window of all vintages (1971 through 1985 have drinking windows specified) is 35 years, which would put it at 2006. The last time I drank this, also from the half bottle, was 2008. Your thoughts would be welcome. Thanks!

Racion (highly recommend ordering one of each of their sherries by the glass--they are all great and very different in character, and dry). Dark amber color; toffee, caramel with sweet raisin aromas, although a touch of RS, still on the dry side, with medium body. Good complexity, awesome with the Brulee Capra cheese. All PX from Montilla-Moriles made in the Amontillado style with no fortification (wines don't need it in M-M). Really lovely and complex, although a crowd pleaser too becasue of candied notes and touch of sweetness.

What a way to end a dinner!
Unique and exquisite+++ ... and that was after a 1990 Giroud Beaune Marconnets and a 1982 Chateau l'Arrosee. Dark, viscous, rich and beautiful. Notes of Toffee, cinnamon, coffee. Each of us enjoyed a 2nd glass. It went well with the Shropshire. I plan to try it with French onion soup (perhaps turtle soup) and vanilla ice cream.
June 13: Finished the bottle with friends who are true lovers of this velvety nectar. Just as good a week later. Did not have it with a soup (that's for another day and another bottle), but there was a generous slice of a lovely cream pie that matched it quite well.

Low alcohol? You're tasting, alright but seriously do you know what the hell you're talking about?
Love that pale greenish olive colour.
Nose releases directly aromas olive oil and almonds. I like that it has depth enough.
Palate is very shortie with a watery texture.
Accompanied a steamed lobster and a dense well-colder gazpacho.

Concentrated notes of raisins, figs and a big coffee finish, tempered nicely by a cleansing acidity giving a long warm finish. A 75cl bottle of this sure goes a long way!

Deep deep tawny brownish color, reminds me of the Toro Albalá Don PX Convento Seleccion 1946 tasted a few months back. Herbal, dried dates, tint of pepper, mint and licorice on the nose, follow with Dundee cake, herbal notes and dates as more prominent taste. Complex and beautiful sherry.

Intense nose of spirit and raisin. Notes of sultana, dark rum, fig, and guava. Palate is thin but very smooth, with powerful alcohol and strong acidity. Mild, well-balanced flavour of liquid raisins, milk chocolate, and musk sticks. Tasty, but similar to - and not vastly better than - more common PX wines that are a tenth of the price.

Raisins on the nose. On the palate, figs, raisins, apricot, molasses, and brown sugar, with a long finish and significant sweetness to balance some rather rough acidity on the finish. This was excellent, and it has the complexity of a superior dessert wine, but it isn't smooth enough to be really outstanding. Even so, it's a good deal at the price (under $40 for 375 ml).

This is exceptional. I had the 1985 at a restaurant and loved it. That vintage was unavailable at retail but found the 1983. For me it is better than the 1985 although it is hard to know the provenance of the restaurant glass. Almost black. Viscous on pouring. Nose of molasses, dark chocolate and espresso. Add dried dates, burnt caramel and burnt orange rind on the palate. Good acidity and very long. Finished the bottle a week after opening and it was still excellent.

This PX continues to drink like a champ. Deep dark brown in color, with viscous, glass-staining legs. The nose is clean and developed, with pronounced aromas of dried figs, prunes, raisins, dark chocolate and espresso. The palate is lusciously sweet, dense and full-bodied, but nicely balanced by medium (+) acidity. The flavor intensity is pronounced and the finish is long, syrupy and persistent. You've really got to try it to believe it.
