Deep crimson color, nose of candied berries and cherries, baking spice and pipe tobacco. Lots of red fruits on the palate, medium to full bodied, astounding finesse in the complex structure very round, finishes very long. Readier than the 89. 2 people found this helpful, do you? I popped and poured the bottle, and from the first snip, there was incredible perfume on the bouquet, surpassing any Unico's I have tried in the past other than 1989. Compared to the older Bordeaux I have had, this has a lot more fruit on the nose and on the palate. It is red fruited not focussed on cedar or smoke like older Bordeaux would be at this stage. It took some time to put on weight in the glass. I drank it for over two hours, and it never seemed that it would fall over. It is a real treat and a testament to the age-ability and finesse that Unico can deliver. That being said, think this would probably have been at peak 10-15 years back. At opening, vibrant plum and interesting bouquet. Some bricking, deep red, significant tears/legs. Decided not to decant beforehand. Decanted at moment of drinking which was fine. Complex, lightly stewed plum with some structure; very slight sweetness, possibly helped by 10% of merlot in assemblage. Like a top bordeaux with an iberian/tinto fino/tempranillo twist. Excellent. It’s pretty oaky even at 12 y of age, and not super complex. There is some nice aromas of dried herbs and red cherry and other red fruit, and of course some vanilla and coconut from the oak, but not so much more. Day1, after 3hr decant: great structure, nose and a long finish, with a hint of tannic tartness. Countless notes on the nose (dark fruit, earth, meat/blood? Herbs) something maritime in among the brambly fruit, maybe seashell/ calcium. Day2: much more integrated and softer, with the tannin less present. I think the bloody and meaty notes are more like molasses today, a lovely background presence. Nose and palate now working in harmony. Er det … Tommy the Cat? Lukter det propan? Javisst. Det bandet er en smakssak men når du drikker denne vinen bør du faktisk høre på Primus. Gassbrenneren slukker etter hvert. Igjen er en voldsom solbærfrukt, kraftig tobakk - men også trøffel og skogbunn som gir vinen en ekstra dimensjon. Voldsom kraft men også elegant i munnen. Despite this 250-year-old estate’s exceptional pedigree (few would argue that it stands alone in Spain as a First Growth equivalent), my expectations were modest given the age and less than optimal storage of this particular bottle. Well, I should have expected more of a wine with almost limitless potential. A classic left bank blend of cabernet and merlot but with the addition of Ribera del Douro’s fruity and figgy tempranillo and a dollop of plummy malbec, this old lady still delivers the goods. The wine presents a deep tawny colour with well-defined gradations and a hint of deep ruby within a still-dense core. It retains medium acidity and soft yet insistent medium- tannins, medium alcohol and, despite its age, medium + body. On the nose there is pronounced cooked cherry and blackberry, old rose, fig, cooked meat, mushroom, and tobacco. Befitting a wine with such carefully curated fermentation and wood ageing (at least 6 years in both French and American oak and a further 4 years in the bottle before release), there is ample evidence of chocolate and cigar box spice. Medium+ body supports a rich, layered, silky texture. To my surprise, following a 30 minute decant and an hour of drinking, the wine developed additional complexity and intensity in the glass. The 1967 Vega Sicila is of outstanding quality and a rare pleasure to drink. Acidity and smooth tannins are sufficient to complement and enhance the rich, smooth texture and medium+ body. A wide range of fully-developed secondary and tertiary aromas and flavours persist on a long, satisfying finish. Legend has it that the wine is named after St Cecilia, the patron saint of music. No wonder this wine continues, after 56 years, to deliver a symphony of sensual experience and drinking pleasure! Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comment

Sleek, smooth and pretty with great depth of flavor. This deserves a lighter meat dish like veal or pork or even duck with no spiciness. Very light bodied and delicate but with finesse. As I mentioned back in 2018 when I drank the last bottle, I expect this will hold here for many years but I don’t expect improvement. Lovely.
