Very similar to last experience - just not sure that this wine is going anywhere for me. Maybe bottle age will help, but I am not terribly optimistic.

Like last time, a lot of sediment so decanting is a must. At first a bit sharp and funky with a smooth mature finish. An hour later, more integrated - enough tannin to give it backbone, but smooth, earthy, with a touch of dark fruit and mellow spices. Integrating very nicely, drink now or wait two more years for something very mellow. Plan ahead and decant for at least an hour.

Big ripe red fruit, but to me this really comes off quite hot, "only" 15.5%, but this almost tastes like a kirsch cocktail. Drink now for the gushing fruit, or hold and maybe(?) this will come together a bit better?

A CdP :Lunch (ICASI): And another Wow wine. Purple/ruby in color. Dark cherries, black raspberries, chocolate, roasted herbs, sandalwood and smoke. Great texture. Soft but with structure. Juicy acidity. layers of complexity that unwind in the glass. Long finish. Its best days are ahead, but the softness gives it both accessibility and food friendliness now.

The trick with CdPs seems to be knowing when to open them. Either do so when the wine is still young, vibrant and showing primary fruit, or wait years for secondary characteristics to develop. Open an expensive bottle during a dormant phase and you will be disappointed. This one did not disappoint!

Aerated and decanted for 1 hr. (more time would have been ideal). While the nose was somewhat muted, the palette was anything but muted. A truly gorgeous wine. Love the combination of fresh raspberries with dried herbs and earthy notes on the finish. Liquid silk on the palette.

Hard to say how long before this begins to shut down but our bottle was right where I was hoping it would be. This is one of those wines that you reminisce about months or even years later. A truly memorable drinking experience.

Started off very tannic. A few hours decanting tamed it a bit. Had the nice garrigue notes, medium to full bodied. Didn't quite have the mouth filling richness mid-palate I had hoped for, but still a very enjoyable bottle that went very well with lamb chops.

We let this get about 6 hours of air in bottle. Drank over 2.5 hours. Never really opened up for me. Red fruit, but driven by a spice profile. Not much depth. Medium - finish. Maybe this just needs more time to develop?

Awesome nose after an hour, leather, garrigue. Long and fruity with developing complexity. Maybe a bit thin mid palate but very, very enjoyable.

From magnum. Old school Chateauneuf. Very good balance and perfectly mature. Still lots of fruit but also more earthy and spicy notes. Full on garrigue notes and the perfect companion to the duck.

Lots of iron ore on the nose, picking up some forest floor on the second night. A fairly straightforward palate of raspberry ganache with a hint of mineral. A bit jammy but not cloying. Decent CdP but not unhappy that I only bought two of these. One left.

Beautiful wine. Very well integrated and even. Very nice Grenache on the palate front-end. After looking this wine up, I found that it is 75% Grenache, 12% Mouvedre, and 11% Syrah. I would have guessed more Syrah based on how the mid-palate stayed bright and moved from a typical Grenache edge to a smoother fruit profile. Just shows how complicated Rhones can be; a big part of the fun and surprises along the way. The wine finishes with nice tannins. Great food wine. Great sipping wine.

Profundos, intensos e persistentes sabores. Agradou demais! E acho que será ainda melhor em 2020+..

Drink now. I remember that his tasted good. Very musty, lots of sediment that made it through the screen. BEWARE, if you have this, drink it now and all in one night. I had 8 ounces left for the next night and, to put it mildly, it was shot. Root beer color and a nose of vinegar. Didn't taste it.

Nice wine. Has the right amount of age on it to resolve some of the lackluster characteristics I found when I last tried this vintage, some 7 years ago. Which is one of the reasons I'm so intrigued with wine...that I can lay a bottle down and come back to it after many years and behold the evolution of the chemistry contained in a bottle of liquid. Sometimes it doesn't work out for the better but in this case it has....Oh what fun.
So yes, the wine has rounded out well and has a pleasant if understated bouquet of red fruits. Just a hint of blackberry, but mostly spice and wood notes. Medium body and medium length. Breathed off a bit of petrol funk in the first 30 minutes and then continued to improve over a 6 hr decant when it finally got finished off.
Overall I think that the offering is still a bit below par for where I would like to see a CdP, especially from a not so bad vintage.
Additional age might still clean this wine up a bit and help reveal some of its finer notes. Its resolved now and the acid tannin balance is quite good, but my sense is that another 4-5 years wouldn't be a bad thing for this one.

Open for business and delicious. Loved the first aroma's from the decantor. Garrigue, lavender & fresh red fruit on the nose. Balanced with more red fruit and garrique on an elegant silky medium weight frame. Only knock is the 15.5% Alc but you can mostly mute it by drinking around 55-60 degrees tops. I'm rapidly falling off the CDP bandwagon but this wine is still worth seeking out and a pleasure to drink with hearty food like our grilled chops tonight. Decanted about 90 minutes before dinner and made sure the temp stayed cool. Paid $60 and worth that. I'll try to hold off on my other 2 btls for at least 3yrs but no harm to drink these now.

Popped and poured from cellar. Herbs, iron and black fruits with some leather in the mix and cherry on the finish. This one surprised me. After popping too many port like 03's from my cellar, this wine reminded me why I love rhone. Not overdone. Perfect winter food wine.

Wanted to try this after the way too pushed 2004 and several other disappointing experiences with other vintages. More restrained and shy, this is a good Chateauneuf with peppery and spicy marks and kirsch. It does lose the edge a bit after a couple of days, but it's a 1999 so it's to be expected. I think the regular bottling of Bosquet des Papes in the old days is the safest bet.

Given 2 hours of slow ox then decanted 1 hour prior to dinner.

Upon opening, obvious aromas of merde dominate the nose & the palate is muddy. With some air, the nose & palate clean up, leaving a nice fruit note. We press on.

During dinner, the wine has deeply pitched notes of raspberry, dark brown sugar/molasses, some leather, tobacco, herbs, and crushed stone. The palate is clean, still quite primary with racy acidity and a long mineral finish. Beautiful and on its way to something good (91-93 pts).
