2012 Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir: Pale ruby colored. Much more tart and floral than some of the other offerings, I get sour cherries, tart cranberries and red apple peels, laced with roses and some sweet red licorice. Medium-bodied with silky tannins and refreshing acid. The fruit is crisp and crunchy but offers plenty of juicy ripeness (red cherries, strawberry, raspberry jam, red apple peel). Lovely mix of pipe tobacco, dark chocolate shavings, clove and white pepper, lots of earthy notes to unpack. Such a silky and creamy wine but plenty of cut and depth as well. 15% new oak, 13.5% alcohol. What a great value for $25.

This wine was murdered tonight. Took it about an hour before the entry of Chinese fortune cookie burned off (very strange initial note that's for sure). Wine poured a light dirty crimson into the glass. Nose is herbal, black cherry, nutmeg. The entry is all black cherry -- a bit acidic, and actually increased after about an hour. The wine was still a little restricted. The mid-palate is a little restrained. At first there was clove and nutmeg here, but this died as the wine started to open more towards the front. The finish is a little acidic and tart. Slightly sweet, a little brambly. Nice wine. Wish I had more, but this was given to me as a gift and I had zero willpower to hold it longer than a month or 2! Probably best to wait 1-2 yrs before trying this one again, as I feel it will present much better.

Such a different experience than my first bottle. Did the wine change? Did I? Probably both!

This was really lovely. Soft red fruits, nice mushroom undertones. Floral aroma. Really good.

Popped and poured. Drank over 2 evenings. Light colored but somewhat bigger on the nose and palette. This wine is showing nicely right now. Has a lot to offer for an entry level wine in this class. Better on the first evening.

On darker side of spectrum for Oregon Pinot. Delightful earth, spice and raspberry nose. Raspberry flavors in smooth presentation. Short finish

Ripe black cherry aromas and flavors with some berry hints on palate. Good concentration for a wine at this price. Very pure fruit with modest spice, with seemingly very little new oak influence. Probably better in another year or two.

Poured out two glasses & let breathe around 45 min. Dark garnet with a lighter rim. The nose is spot on. Ripe bing cherry mixed with mushroom/earthy aromatics. Full bodied, dark, rich fruit right away. Polished & plush. A modern style Pinot. Structured, but masked a bit. Some pretty red fruit emerges on the mid palate. This is slightly unbalanced as some heat shows on the finish.

Light in color and body. Little pepper on the front of the tongue. A little sweet with a touch of strawberry. Had this wine with spicy steamed mussels and it was quite good.

this was the 4th tasting in the 2010 OR PN set this week ... chehalem reserve, chehalem RR, Shea Estate ... the Broadley was similar to the chehalem resv, and nothing like the Shea estate (same vineyard, same vintage ... ). this seemed to come from younger vines than the estate and had more of the dijon spice

1994 Smack-down consisting of one Chardonnay from Stony Hill and a total of five Pinot Noirs from Brick House, William Selyem (Sonoma Coast), Broadley Vineyards Reserve, Ken Weight Cellars (Shea Vineyards), and Mt. Eden Vineyards. All wines were purchased upon release and stored in a cool cellar until consumed. All these wines were decanted. The red wine bottles contained sediment after years of resting undisturbed.

Ullage of ¾” and seemed about normal for a 20 year-old wine stored in good conditions. Cork was removed intact. The color was quite nice, a good red color in the center with some age evident at the nenmiscus. The wine’s color seemed to indicate that wine was holding up quite well for a 20 year-old Pinot. It’s color tied with the William Selyem in the middle of pack. (I.e., not too dark or too light.) Slightly darker nose and palate than the WS, but like the WS, it possessed wonderful restraint. This wine had red currant and leather elements which came to life with time. Cedar and brown-sugar also were noticed. Nice finish and good long, balanced, acids. Placed second out of the five wines tried this evening. Earthy. Would love to know more about how this wine was made. A real surpise - bravo!

(Alcohol level not noted on label.)

Gosh, what did I pay for this? Not much.

Popped and poured and followed over 3 hours. This had a fizzy thing going on. Folks commented on the darker red/dried black cherry notes on the nose and palate of this wine. There was a freshness and fleshiness to the fruit and structure. Tannins were soft and indeed sweet - almost confectionairy. Outclassed by the St Innocent Freedom Hill tonight, it was nonetheless a really nice wine. Would drink within 5 years if you have em.

Even fresher and longer than my previous bottle from last month. Impressive entry level wine for its age. Best when first popped-and-poured, less interesting 2 hours later when finished.

Tasted in double-blind fashion from a bottle provided by M.B., this deep ruby wine offers nice aromas of cherry, coriander, orange zest and cocoa. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, freshly acidic and has well-integrated alcohol (14.4%). Although light in weight, the wine's tannins are somewhat angular and the promise of the nose is not fully delivered in the spartan flavor profile. Thinning a bit in the middle, it concludes with a short-to-medium-length finish. While short-term cellaring may be beneficial here, I would not necessarily bank on it. Drink now-2019.

Bright fruit and nice balance. Perhaps a little sweet and not particularly earthy. That being said drank beautifully with food. Would buy it despite it not blowing us away. For the price, great value I thought.

Tasting 5 Pinot Noirs at Primas. Had nice, rich fruit on the nose and tasted slightly earthy but concentrated and rich fruit in the mouth which lacks polis but finishes with medium soft tannins that suggest 3 years of ageing will help it. My #2.

Delicious fruity wine that went very well with beef with brown sauce and a vegetarian dish. The half bottle left was gassed (N2), stoppered and refrigerated for four days. As it warmed, it continued to be delicious, well balanced and wonderful. Glad I still have a few in the cellar. Hope you do too.
