2014 Campesino Alina La Prenda

Sonoma Valley White Rhone Blend more

Delicious with fresh tropical fruit, grilled peaches and pineapple. It's juicy but adds a bit of lanolin which along with its light acidity makes for a complex mouthfeel. Don't hesitate to drink one now but this should age for a few years as well.

Delicious and refreshing. Dry but fruity with Rainier cherry and watermelon notes. Light acidity & noticeable minerality give it a nice crispness and a surprisingly long finish.

My last bottle of this, but the wine still has time. Getting close to maturity I think, but should last a decade more. This is middle of the road in style. Plenty of black raspberry fruit, some grilled meats and some bacon fat on the nose. Showing a nice complexity. Slightly fat in style but with enough acidity to make it work well. Finished up the last glass on day 2, and no degradation. Wonderful wine.

Second time trying this wine and loved it again. Just a gorgeous showing for this young 50/50 blend of Maranne and Rousanne. Lots of fruit with depth. No bitterness. Slightly waxy. Delicious. Looking forward to trying the 14's.

Pleasant, complex aromas of raspberry, herbs, earth and grilled meat. The palate matches: fruit-forward (mostly raspberry) but adds complexity on the finish. Smooth mouthfeel with medium acidity tannins.

Really opened up beautifully with some air and warming a bit. Coming to room temp allowed for more tropical fruit to show. Crisp green apple on the nose with bright minerality. Strikingly composed and balanced.

Pop and pour: way too heavy handed on the charred oak. Smells like smoked bacon, tastes like smoke. Would have thought this was a 2008 smoke tainted wine. There may be some syrah character under there somewhere, but the charred oak is too overwhelming for me.

Couple hours after opening: smoke has receded. Tapenade and dark chocolate to the fore. Much more enjoyable. Give this wine some air.

Curiously when pouring this wine, the bubbles don't recede immediately but instead linger for several minutes. What's up with that?

Evolving gorgeously. Nose of olive tapenade, brined raspberries, and a campfire which was just doused. On the palate it's much more about the secondary notes now. Smoked bacon, meats, lavender, thyme, all spice, and some blackberries peeking through in the background. Opulent body which is supple, but not too heavy. Everything in check and continues to impress.

A bunch of wines with Friends at NVW&C (Napa Valley Wine & Cigar): Macario hits this one out of the park. This is outstanding. The nose is really complex. Floral qualities mix with tropical fruits and then also a waxy note. On the palate, this is a big white wine and full of fruit but in no way is it overpowering. Great slippery/oily texture and acidity counterbalance the fruit. No bitterness that sometimes shows up in white Rhones. This is delicious as a cocktail but works with food too. I think it is $28 and well worth the money. No idea how well it ages, white Rhone varietals are so hard to judge and I have little experience from CA on these. This is a 50/50 blend of Marsanne and Rousanne.

Chilled for about an hour in the fridge, then opened and explored over a few hours. Beautiful wine. Lovely round, rich notes that you'd expect from marsanne and roussanne, but there's great acidity and balance here too. Stone fruit, beeswax, honey, white flowers, and orange pith all work well together. Will probably keep for several more years too.

Decanted for 4 hours before Xmas Eve dinner with the family. Similar notes to the last bottle. There was so much festivity that we couldn't break down the wine. All in the family loved it though and it quickly vanished. Couldn't think of having it any other way! Another amazing wine from Macario!

I went through two bottles I think the first was a 2008 I drank some time ago but remember it being similar to the 2009 I had tonight. What I got out of it was very tart berries, some olive and minerals with a slight bitterness on the finish. I love Syrah but this wine is too austere for me. Perhaps it needed to paired with some food. There are many other Syrahs at this price point I would pick over this one.

Drinks almost like a full bodied pinot. Very fruit forward and minimal leather, tar, and smoke notes. Very enjoyable but not at all like a typical syrah.

Poured a glass through the Vinturi. Dark purple, seamless, soft, silky texture. Nose of smoked berries and macerated dark fruits followed by bacon fat with some lavender and sun dried rosemary showing up as well. On the palate the dark berries and pepper is there but give it time. The is a lot of structure off the bat that will give with a 4 hour decant. Softer tannins at this point lead to tar, licorice, asphalt after a summer rain. Grilled meat and blackberry are followed by some graphite. Minerality and acidity keeping this bad boy poised. Can't say enough about this wine. It certainly is making us reevaluate our tastes and shifting what we look for in wines now.
