12/16/2010 - jlm wrote: NRAttractive nose of red apple and mint. The palate is lightweight with only a subtle sweetness remaining, but it feels a little loose, with the acidity only playing a secondary role on the back end. However, this didn't budge over two days in the fridge, so I'm inclined to think that it's still in its in-between stage and will emerge as a much more interesting wine with a little more bottle age. |

The palate offers stunning density with excellent acid support and solid complexity. The flavors consist of apple, pear, and citrus with a firm underlying stoney spine. This is one of the better values from the tasting. |

11/13/2010 - salil wrote: 80 pointsReally disappointing given past experiences with this: starts out like a classic Mosel Riesling, full of apple and pear fruit and herbal notes over a bed of slate and gentle, understated sweetness, but with time the sulfur takes over completely and makes this a challenge to smell, let alone taste. Shame. |

10/2/2010 - salil wrote: 94 pointsPretty much everything I'd want in a Mosel Riesling. Classical Mosel fruit - apple, pear and lemon - combined with fresh herbs, touches of earth and slate and gentle smoky and petrol notes that are just starting to emerge. It's one of those wines that needs some time and patience, unravelling its flavours with time rather than hitting you with everything in one shot, but the whole package is stunning with fantastic balance, precision, depth and length and I am glad I at least have two more bottles of this. |

10/1/2010 - salil wrote: 93 pointsRemarkably for a BA (that too an '06!), this isn't a giant botrytis monument. It's more like a big Auslese, but even then the botrytis is very subtle and nicely woven into the other flavours. There's very rich peach, apple and yellow plum fruit with some honeyed and spicy notes, and the high toned herbal/sassafrass/earthy character I've always found in Schmitt-Wagner's other wines, which makes this feel like a real extension of his Spätlese rather than a dessert wine. Fantastic balance and depth, with really good acidity balancing the sweetness nicely, and I'm sure this will age stunningly - just wish I had more bottles of this. |

8/26/2010 - Chris Newport wrote: NRI think I liked this better than the last bottle, consumed about a year ago. The usual aged riesling notes on the nose. Nice and long on the palate with a caressing streak of acidity waiting to carry the fruit through to the finish. The acidity balances really nicely with the fruit which seems to be dominated by green melon of all things... I don't have enough experience with this vineyard to make any sort of terrior proclamation... so I'll just leave it at that. Nothing earth shattering here, just a really elegant, well integrated bottle of riesling that has reached it's latter years in good form. Worth the wait. |
