3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): The nose is clean, medium intensity, there is a strange green/stalky and almost Sauvignon Blanc feeling to it, with some ripe fruit getting in the way, hazelnut bits all over.
The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium acidity, med+ alcohol (14.5%), more oak in the palate almost overpowering, almond and walnut, ripe apricot, needs time to settle and come together, med finish.
Very good quality, drink now or hold

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): The nose is that clean, med-/med intensity, a bit heavy on the grass, ripe lime zest, ripe pear.
The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, acidity feels quite high, grassy and vegetal, almost unripe fruit with a strange acidity ruining balance, it feels disconnected altogether, stalk-y med finish.
Good quality, has to be inexpensive or cheap, drink now.

At the PEF dinner at our house. This was a fun addition, having purchased at the winery in Chile that week stuffing in my luggage. Had not had the Chardonnay from this producer previously.

Medium gold color. If tasted blind I would have guessed a cross between a Corton Charlemagne and high end California. Creamy vanilla and citrus, burnt suger, creme brulee, butterscotch. Really nice stuff and, when purchased at the winery, an incredible QPR. Not sure how accessible this is in the US - comparable to the best of CA Chards...

Plum, berry and light spice aroma. With light berry and mocha flavor. Paired well with dark chocolates and espresso-rubbed cheese.

A very deep purple colour shows this wine will still improve with age. Blackcurrant, coffee, and cedarwood on a pronounced nose. High acidity and tannin, despite a medium body. The flavours are well-integrated with the tannin. Only downside is that the finish fades a tad too quickly.

Another brilliant bottle of this spectacular wine. Hard to reconcile the power of the aromas and flavors with the price point, as this wine resounds with a force and impact that I have normally experienced with offerings costing exponentially more. The tannic presence of this particular bottle, however, suggests a longer drinking window lies ahead for the 2009 than the first two bottles of this vintage we have shared since December 2014. I am seeking more of this wine in different vintages as I continue to be compelled by its beautifully beguiling yet seductive charisma.

Third bottle was very interesting. It gradually opened up but tasted different across the entire night, better as the night went on. Think this wine has yet to fully evolve, so we are going to give it another year.

At the winery, last in the flight.

Dark color, nose of dark fruits, floral, graphite. Great bouquet, would likely continue to improve with air time. Dark fruit profile on the palate: plums, black fruits, blueberry. Elegant, feminine wine. Will improve with cellar time.

At the winery, second wine in a tasting. Surprised to the upside. Plush and smopth mouthfeel. Dark cherry, blackberry, herbs. Medium mouthfeel and finish. Good to drink now, wouldnt expect it to add too much complexity

At the winery during a tasting. Fresh and decent acidity. Baked apples, citrus on the nose. Nice mouthfeel. Pleasant but not elegant. Would be a good crowd pleasing Summer wine

wonderful nose followed by an equally as exciting balance of feel and flavors. Hard to believe, but this followed a 2005 Hillside Select and all agreed it could have been a "cousin" to the Shafer at one fourth the cost. I found this to be outstanding in every way. Will seek to add more to my cellar.

I had my first bottle 6 years ago. We were guests of this winery the year this vintage was harvested and it was anticipated it would do well. Turns out it won accolades. And in 2009 when I tried it I rated it very highly. But on opening our second of four bottles today (decanted for 2 hours) I feel as though the wine is quite hot. It is possible my palate has changed and I prefer blended / Bordeaux style wines more than I did back then. My reading on this now is tart cherry, pepper, chalk. I am concerned this will not improve over time.

Popped, decanted for 30 minutes, then poured. Very dark in color with only slight bricking around the rim. Aromas of bell pepper, cherry, plum, currant and game. Big full bodied wine with flavors of blackberry, cherry, raspberry, hint of plum and bell pepper. Ended with a wonderful 30-35 second finish and a earthy note. Very youthful wine with many great years ahead!

No formal note, but extremely appreciated by everyone. Beautiful intense and refined nose of blackcurrant, with notes of tar. Even though this wine is very rich, it's not heavy at all and has a elegant freshness. Very good lenght.

A good wine for $10 or less. Medium bodied. It is a nice everyday cab but it needs at least 30 minutes to mellow out after opening to get rid of the acohol bite (despite only being 13%).
