2014 Cedarville Vineyard Cabernet SauvignonEl Dorado more |
4/9/2024 - VeniceCalif wrote: 93 pointsDeep bricky garnet color. Shy nose showing black plums, cherry compote. Comes alive on the palate, as smoke and mushrooms join the party. Brisk acidity lifts it all up and provides an elegant texture. Nice long finish with zero tannins. It’s rich and extracted but smooth and complex. Not likely to improve further |

2/18/2023 - golfwine wrote: 88 pointsThe tale of 4 bottles! The first, perfect and intriguing. The 2nd, simple but enjoyable. The third, fruit forward and again, simple but at least, balanced. The 4th, with the opening funk of bottle one and acidity like a rubber bouncy ball - all over the place but not anywhere that you’d want it to be. So quirky and unbalanced. And, only because the ‘19 Skinner was opened as comparison, am I giving this a pass, as perhaps being at an awkward stage in its development. A verdict, likely never to be reached, since I’m not inclined to buy any more. |

Just not a lot going on here, though the wine is very pleasant. It’s still firm, which maybe suggests that further patience will be rewarded. |

11/12/2022 - golfwine wrote: 90 pointsMore simple, with more fruit and less acid than previous bottles, but still enjoyable. This bottle totally void of that earthy, savory character that I noticed in a bottle 10 months ago. Making me wonder if it’s not at the tail end of its drinking window? Much more like an unoffensive bottle pulled off the grocery store shelf. (89+) |

11/1/2022 - golfwine Likes this wine: 90 pointsDefinitely a less serious wine than the Skinner. That said, it’s very enjoyable. Opens with a slight gaminess that blows off quickly. What follows is bright, crunchy, medium to dark red fruits and that fruit carries literally through every sip, right to the last glass and sip. A pop & pour, crowd-pleaser, though few in the crowd would know the grape or appreciate the work being done by this winery. I’m a long-time fan of this Grenache. And now again (because of this bottling), a huge fan of the varietal. |

10/26/2022 - VeniceCalif wrote: 89 pointsA couple of years later. Wonderful spicy nose, showing dried herb, clove, oregano, who knows what else. Medium bodied on the palate, nicely balanced acid-wise, with delicious clear fruit flavors of cherries, plums. Zero tannins in the finish. The relatively high alc. is what keeps this back. Maybe I have evolved along with this wine. |

2/19/2022 - Jeppy Likes this wine: 93 pointsWhat a wonderful wine. After 16 years this wine shows no signs of oxidation and could be great for at least 4-5 years. Being a magnum helps a bit but I’m amazed how this wine has aged. |

2019 Cedarville Vineyard GrenacheEl Dorado more |
1/13/2022 - golfwine wrote: 92 pointsI’m so impressed with this wine and producer. Their Grenache was the first of their varietals I ever tasted…must’ve been 15+yrs ago. As well, the wine that I’ve always praised as their benchmark (side note: their Cabs, with some age on them, are quite impressive). Though I’ve always liked the acidity in Grenache and this bottling is more on the low to mid level, what I’m really diggin’ is the savory/salinity that I don’t recall from past experiences. Absolutely Lovin’ It! Muted fruit on the nose, which is replaced by an indistinct herbal note; resembling more a Burgundy than Rhone. It opens with red fruit (cranberry and raspberry), which quickly yeilds to the aforementioned savory salinity. This wine is (and has always been) great with food, as it’s well-balanced and with enough complexity to have you thinking about it, between bites. Might be worthy of another point or two but it’s been some time since I’ve drank enough Grenache for a reference point. |

This is a great wine....on opening it seems reticent and quiet....but there is a funkiness there with fruit....as you pour and drink a couple of glasses, you realize it is zinfandel.....classic zinfandel....with some restraint and length. This wine cost me $23, and it is amazing. I keep buying Cedarville wine, setting down, and then wondering why it is so awesome and so well-priced. |

8/24/2020 - VeniceCalif wrote: 88 pointsDecanted 90 mins. ahead. Very deep garnet color. Nice Syrah nose of black fruits and exotic notes such as beef fat. Medium-full on the palate, with good depth of flavors that bring a complex fruit mixture. Weak acid balance gives a very ingratiating structure, not for the cellar. OK finish with very low tannins. |
