Needs to air to fully appreciate. But delicious if you have patience.
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle.

Similar bottle as last one from April. This had lovely honey and citrus notes with a hint of oak/toast.

From 75cl, good cork. Luminescent Campari-like colour. The scent promises massive minerality but not a lot else, but the taste... is sublime. Medium-bodied entry, fattens out towards the mid-palate, dries out to a mineral finish. Not quite as sweaty-sexy-floral as the Mas d'en Compte blanc from the same vintage, but almost transcendental in the way it has all those lovely strawberry-cherry-like notes rosé wines often suggest, but combined with the full Priorat package of slate-driven minerality, vivid acidity, almost sparkling textural lift and a long tingling finish. Outstanding. More, please. 92P

This bottle, now 3+ years out, gave immediate strong notes of cola, leather, and olive. Also kirsch and dark fruit. Certainly has evolved some in the bottle in the sense that it has mellowed and flavors are softer. Olive has developed. Sandalwood and brown sugar come out as it opens in the glass. Just fantastic. My personal preference would be to enjoy this wine younger for its vibrancy. Either way one of the best QPRs out there. Delightfully food friendly especially with Asian dishes

A medium gold appearance, with a nose of pineapple, pear, cooked apricot, vanilla and white pepper spice. The acidity is high and there is a big medium body reminiscent of butter due to malolactic fermentation. The finish is fairly long with lingering coconut and spice from the high alcohol content. It's fresh with quite a large range of flavours.

A quite nice surprise as we didn't expect much from this and ended up being a very nice experience. On the simple side but very nice still. The wine is unpretentious and un-adulterated. Def has seen some oak in its elevage but it carries it well and the restrain on the oak helps the wine stay expressive ( we wish other Spaniards would follow the same path. We are scarred by over-oaked Spanish wines). Good fresh red fruit, good acidity, the tannin is vibrant but not harsh and there is beauty in the relative forward-ness of the wine. An 89 from us but a good 89 and wouldn't hesitate to order it again.

The 2012 Celler Cal Pla Black Slate Porrera currently rates as 90 points with the CellarTracker community. This review is a follow up on my notes from November 2014 for the 2011 vintage. The 2012 is a much bolder showing of this wine. This vintage is full of ripe dark berries (i.e., "juicy"), noticeable alcohol (yet not especially hot), a medium-plus body, medium tannins, and medium acidity. The uncharacteristic effervescence that showed in the 2010 and 2011 vintages is no longer present in the 2012. I am surprised that a grenache and carignan blend has so much flavor and fruit-forward character. My typical experience with a grenache is much more minerality and earthiness. However, not with this wine. I would have been way off in a blind tasting. I rate the 2012 Celler Cal Pla Black Slate Porrera 89 points with the potential to stretch to a 91...depending on my mood for a jammy wine (it also drinks well on day two). This wine is likely to be a crowd pleaser, but I can also see it being too overwhelming for some taste preferences. It is definitely worth the price of admission at just under $20 a bottle. No need to wait, it is ready to drink now. Enjoy!

Such a great wine. So versatile. Drinks above the price. Has many great elements: aromatic, plenty of fruit, broad flavor profile (leather, smoke, cigar) lush mouthfeel, ample acidity, med plus finish. Could serve with novices or experts

From 75cl, v. good cork. Exactly as noted on 21.11.2015. Best at 13C cellar temperature; too cold and the knock-out floral scent is muted, too warm and the mid-palate balance tips. But the killer numbing orange-oil finish soars at any temperature. 93P

Took to Richards house. Decanted for one hr which was not enough. Nice nose but tannins are very noticeable. The fruit is there; this needs at least 5 years to really shine

Deep orange-y gold. Intense flavors of Meyer lemon curd and butterscotch. A dry wine but with dessert wine weight. Interesting as a cocktail but would be hard to match with food other than cheese.

Followed over 3 days. First day was more primary yet delicious flavors of vanilla, strawberry and dusty ripe cherries. Good balance of acidity and just enough tannins to give off some dryness in the end but mostly all integrated. Day 2 was a bit harsher an awkward as it lost all the vanilla and fruit notes and did not transform into anything interesting. By day 3, the wine developed a nice profile of tobacco with earthy/spicy notes with a faint hint of red cherries.

Interesting to follow this wine and the oak influence from sweet vanilla initially to rustic tobacco. Drink now if you want more of the sweet red fruit and vanilla notes. Drink in ~3-5 years w/ a short decant to enjoy it more as an old-world wine. At under $30 for a Priorat, great QPR and a huge step up from the "black slate" production.
