5/7/2023 - Sacramento Geezer Likes this wine: 94 pointsOrdered at The Kitchen restaurant in Sacramento. The sommelier removed saturated cork with Durand, tasted, and poured. Wonderful Bordeaux blend. Old wines often taste somewhat like a sherry or liquerish to me, but this was wine. Bottle clearly well cellared. |

6/14/1991 - MicklethePickle Does not like this wine: 75 pointsAt Singer & Foy survey of '88 Bordeaux. Decent ruby color, with magenta highlights. Nose seems "off" -- oaky, burnt. On the palate, it is also kind of hard and not real opulent. Almost a "petroleum" quality. One of my least favorite. 4-5-12-4: 75/100. |

Oaky. Decent fruit. Somewhat bitter finish, but not tannic. Butternut. I don't like the bitter finish or all of the oak. 5-10-14-6: 85/100. |

4/29/2022 - englishman's claret wrote: 93 pointsWhat a wonderful surprise - the 1990 Certan Giraud is drinking so beautifully now. As soon as it lands in the decanter, a heavenly nose emerges, powdered and aromatic in the way that Raus(z)an Segla can sometimes be but with an array a Pomerolian things - plum, truffle, mineral, cocoa, and a hint of nuttiness. The palate is slightly less sumptuous, offering a medium plum body with mostly-resolved tannin and nice acid, emphasizing chestnut, pheasant, and leather. You could imagine a stronger finish from 1990 Pomerol, but leveling that criticism would almost be to forget what a characterful, food-friendly value this is. |

12/6/2021 - vinhonotte Likes this wine: 92 pointsMedium ruby, with significant fading on edges, and somewhat viscous. Very ripe, even stewed red cherries and cranberries, as well as a bit of green fern, cinnamon, cloves, and charcuterie. Tannins completely softened, whilst mostly peppery meaty yet green minty flavours as well as ripe cranberries, then cloves and nutmeg. Quite a good length of peppers and stewed meat. Nice! |

12/26/2021 - wmccone54 wrote: 92 pointsA beautiful wine at twenty-three years; perfect accompaniment to the iron skillet, seared beef filets and garden salad. Wine has turned a medium garnet with a ruby core; very aromatic red currants and earth tones. Medium body. Elegance, finesse, class, and balance can best describe this wine. Mature red fruits and perfectly integrated structure provides a great companion to roasted, broiled, or braised meats. Recommend not decanting, as I found it started to fade after about two hours in the decanter. Finishes medium. Drink now or within the next 12-18 months. |

7/11/2021 - rjmp96 Likes this wine: 89 pointsTop shoulder. Cork was saturated. Wine was technically sound. Definitely past it’s prime but this 40 year old is holding up really well. Stewed plum fruit and worn leather mixing with mint, green pepper, mushroom, soy and brine. A soft, rounded texture and enough spine to hold it up. Neither alcohol nor acid sticking out. Fruit is tired a little on the palate, but still pumping through the finish. A solid Pomerol from a tougher year in BDX. Drink up. |

Much more complex and even better after an hour in the decanter. Perfect with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Could not get better, but will last for years. |

6/5/2020 - ANWW89 Likes this wine: 93 pointsexceeded expectations. very expressive nose of herb, burnt wood and cigar box. palate still shows good fruit!. Tannins well resolved and still present - faded nicely into the background without being too intrusive. long finish. This is mature and well balanced. i would think this is either at or just past peak. definitely still extremely drinkable for the next 3-5 years and maybe even more - especially for those who enjoy mature clarets. I count myself fortunate to have many more bottles of these and hope they will continue to show well in the near future. |

3/27/2020 - jordanj wrote: 87 pointsI had higher hopes for this given 89 was a great Pomerol vintage and these vines are now owned by VCC and Hosanna. PnP - grew a little weight with some slow ox, but tired. Nose of only HINTS of cigar box and smoke with little to no fruit. No clues cepage left. Palate is still tannic. Maybe this was in its prime 15 years ago, but of little value today. FYI, this was a perfectly stored bottle. |

2/6/2020 - bonnerecolte Likes this wine: 93 pointsHigh shoulder, excellent provenance. Decanted, but could have been just popped and poured. Sweet fruit, chewy body, savory Merlot. I think the cab franc helped this to age and maintain its character. |

6/20/2019 - liber Likes this wine: 90 pointsLast of 12, decanted 45 minutes, perfect level, cork half travelled, previous notes from 96 to 08 very good or better - browning garnet, leggy; plum and sweet black cherry bouquet tinged with spice, some truffle and earth, attractive if not particularly complex; fullish, long, decent persistence, velvety, bit simple, fruit tiring as might be expected for a 34 year old Pomerol but attractive generosity of a beautifully balanced top vintage, drink up. VGI (17)……….had thought of putting this lone bottle up against a more recent Hosanna (successor to most of Certan-Giraud) but didn't want to wait any longer but not sure that this falls far behind my 01 say in spite of the hype and much elevated pricing! |
