This is quite a good effort - dark fruit cedar notes quite elegant and structured - very attractive at the moment.

Against the 2000 and Poujeaux 2000. Possibly the best of the three, though it was a close race. Fully ready and enjoyable.

I have drunk several 2000s over the last few days, and they seem to be a little disappointing. This was drunk against Poujeaux 2000 and Chasse 2003, and the other two were better. The 03 had more structure

2 hour decant.
As per my May '13 note. Continues to hold up magnificently. Will drink over the next 2-3 years. For strong flavoured meat/game or hard cheeses.
Superb and very Englishy claret.

Tasted the Chasse Spleen 2010 and 2011 completely blind beside each other, only knowing it was Bordeaux. This will be one comparative tasting note. The 2010 showed a lot of vanilla and toast in the bouquet at first. Later it was a bit dusty with good cassis and graphite. The 2011 had the same toast, cassis and graphite, but also showed some smoke and peach(?). On the palate the 2011 was harmonious with the bouquet with dark forest fruits, oak, smoke, some sweetness, juicy acidity and mild tannin. The 2010 was 2 or 3 steps better on all points. Much more beautiful cassis and other dark berry fruits, some good bell pepper, firm but good acidity and oak, sticky tannin and firm bitterness. The 2010 still needs many years so it all can integrate. The 2011 was, with some air, much easier to like. Maybe most significant at the moment was the difference in color. The 2011 fairly light and even a bit transparent, while the 2010 was still purple and quite dark. Overall two nice wines with each their own merits; the 2011 probably at its peak between 2020 and 2025, but the 2010 will probably reach its maturity around 2024 and will most likely be really nice until at least 2030. My scores: 2011 87 - 88. 2010 91 – 92.

Pristine bottle, level well into neck, perfect cork extracted without any difficulty, no signs of seepage whatsoever, stored in my (airconditioned) cellar since purchase in 2000. Short decant. Mature but lively appearance; mature and classical claret nose, fresh bandages, notes of spice and earth, stones, just a touch of 1989-warmth, hint of nutty evolution, vestiges of red berry fruit, good depth; the palate is mature and well-balanced, tannins are still firm but do not stick out, acidity is ripe but carries the wine well, drying but still with the ripeness of the vintage, slight heaviness from the soils, sturdy and of good substance; good length.

Typical bordeaux - tobacco, cigar box, lead pencil. Great acidity. Tannins are present but in my opinion should be not be as soft as they are for a 1995. Drink now - 2022. LO

Despite 25+ years in my cellar (at a $16 cost), this is simply a 90 point wine without the depth or complexity to be any better. It is what it was. Slight browning, but with some fresh acidity and a silky, musty Bordeaux nose. Drinking nicely now, and I'd say drink up or cruise for another few years.

Huge wine with a ton of fruit and tannin. Nice acid will hold this wine together for many years. Don't open another for 2-3 years to maximise drinking enjoyment.

Big and chewy. Impressive. Dark ruby-colored, with cocoa, coffee and chocolate aromas covered by ripe fruit. Full-bodied and very rich, showing lots of chewy tannins and a long, roasted coffee and berry aftertaste.

Was afraid that we missed the ideal time but the bottle was perfect. Very deep floral notes, a good, well-balanced body. Glad we opened it because next year it might have not been the same pleasure. Served with a filet de canard from the BBQ (marinated with lemon and sage).

Stored in cold cellar since release. Perfect fill and cork. Brick red. Ready, full, well balanced. Just lacks class. A perfect expression of terroir. As good as Chasse Spleen gets? Drink by 2020 at latest.

Library Tasting with Geoff Kelly - 2005 Bordeaux (Regional Wines and Spirits, Wellington, New Zealand): Clearly denser and darker in hue that the Ch. Potensac of the same vintage. The nose, too, is more dense , featuring ripe and balanced plum and currant aromas with a touch of developed walnut nuance. Shows development in the mouth with a nice sense of drying structure. Well made and delicious and a clear step in terms of complexity above the Potensac.

Complex, enjoyable, inviting nose of cedar, coffee, mature fruit and some uplifting grassyness. On the palate very dry, unbalanced with the fruit gone, mostly bell peppers. Short diluted finish. Promised so much but delivered too little in the mouth to pass.

Nez: SU-PER-BE!

Clear, medium intensity garnet color.

The nose is fully developed with a medium aroma intensity. Aromas of fresh red berries, dried black currants, prunes, sweet spice, cold coffee, stable floor, dry earth, gravel dust and dried herbs.

Dry on the palate with a medium acidity, medium body and medium rounded up tannins. The flavor intensity is medium with flavors of dark berries, green bell peppers, fresh herbs and cold coffee. The finish is medium and a bit watery.

This have seen it's glory days. The nose is lovely mature Bordeaux but the palate is a bit tired and dried out.

Duration: 2 hours
Food: Japanese
Condition: perfect
Aroma: cedar, violet, red fruits
Notes: a weird vintage with unexpected complexity. This is definitely a good effort for a mediocre vintage. Relatively light bodied for a left bank wine. I like this wine. Pretty well balanced. Drink now-2018.
