2009 Château Clos St. Martin

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more

This is one sexy little beast. Pure silk and velvet textures, with ripe, plush, sweet fruits, earth, truffle, licorice and a hint of espresso. The wine is all about pleasure from start to finish. I usually prefer drinking Clos St. Martin within about 15 years of the vintage.

A lovely and very well aged wine, just on the other side of peak, starting to lose some of the fruit it was so sought out for...Roasted coffee and violets...delicate and serious. Drink now or resist for 3 to 5 years...I think its entering phase 2....

Very narrowly defined with bright, dense black cherry flavors and hints of leather, cedar and graphite. Had to decant for more than hour to coax out the fruit. Best part was the aromatic profile: pretty violets, black cherries, raspberries. This needs more time.

Seems to have reached it's perfect drinking age. Best bottle of this one I ever had. Soft and round, nonetheless some serious depth.

What a beauty this is. With only 20 minutes of air, flowers, chocolate covered raspberries, truffle, smoke and licorice scents pop from the glass. If you like that, the sensuous, lush textures should seal the deal! At 10, this is the right time to be drinking this pleasure machine. It's not a wine to age, hoping it will make old bones. Because it won't. I'm going to finish my remaining bottles before this is 18-20 years of age. Fortunately, it's so much fun to drink, I cannot wait to pop another cork.

No need to wait any longer for this beauty. If you like opulent textures, a nose with smoke, licorice, black cherry, licorice and wet earth, and a luscious, soft finish, you came to the right place. I've found that this wine shows best between 10-15-20 years of age. It's a wine for pleasure seekers. However, it's not a wine to hold for decades.

Drank over 2 hour decant. Dark ruby in color. Fragrant nose of blackberry, plum, spice, mineral, and vanilla. Silky and opulent. Palate is currently more impressive than the nose. Somewhat tannic, nicely rounded. Medium-plus finish. This New World-style Bordeaux represents an excellent value. I expect this should improve over the next 2-3 years, though it will drink well for much longer.

Bordeaux 2008 (Bordeaux): Rather nuanced nose. Palate is warm and spicy, blackberry fruit with refreshing notes of dill. Good. 87-90

This was the first of two bottles I bought a futures for $45. The estate vineyards are planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanted four hours before dinner. Dark purple. Notes of charcoal, berries, tar, cassis and dried mushroom. Still growing with room for improvement. 95+ points

Opened and decanted for about an hour, but the wine did not change much. Although it's pretty aromatic, it seems like it's still holding back. Very fruit forward and concentrated, without the oak being too present. This seems to be built for the long run and - though it was very enjoyable - I think it would have been wise to wait 5 to 10 years.

The Clos St. Martin is not a top-flight 1961, but this was a very creditable showing from this small vineyard near Beausejour Becot. This is a rustic, old school Saint Emilion, displaying aromas of leather, loamy soil, blackberry and dried cherry, followed by a concentrated but not too complex palate impression with good texture and acidity and nicely melted tannins.

Pleasant barnyard, vanilla, smoke, cedar and sweet spices. On the palate a bit grainy but beautifully integrated tannin. Really beautiful. Ready now and the next 4+ years.

Dark, quite brooding. Not particularly expressive on the nose, but underlying notes of dark fruit and spice. Concentrated in the mouth, fresh and well balanced but a little dry on the finish for now. A muted performance all round.....

Soft, polished and plush with plums, cherries, licorice and espresso bean in the nose, this round, forward, medium-bodied wine was made from a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine reached 13.5% alcohol, with pH of 3.8. The yields were 28 hectoliters per hectare. This is all about finesse on the palate. 89-91 Pts
