1/30/2024 - talbot61 Likes this wine: NRCan a wine smell warm? This one gave such an impression of radiating heat that I found myself feeling the glass to check the temperature of the wine. The aroma was almost visceral, like a fuzzy blanket that you wrap when you come in from a cold, wet walk. The flavor gives a different impression -- the wine is still in its angular youth, with high tannin and high acidity, lots of structure and not yet much fruit. Nevertheless, we happily drained the bottle, sediment and all, because the high-toned spiciness and red fruits went well with our steak and mushrooms. We'll leave our remaining bottles, though, for a few more years, until the taste is as warm as the smell. |

Only negative would be more one dimensional compared to top StE wines that cost much more. For the price nobody is going to be disappointed. |

The Château is located in the region close to Pomerol, with soils of sand, gravel and ferriginous clay. This wine, composed of 90% Merlot and 10% of Cabernet Franc,is more of a finesse-styled wine, by no means a flavor bomb like yesterday’s Gigondas. Medium Bordeaux color with a nose of tobacco and blackberries and a balanced taste of berries, ripe tannins with an adjusted acidity. This wine could eventually be stored for a couple of years but, to my tastei it is perfectly ready to drink. |
