2008 Château Croizet-Bages

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

First impression: one of the more feminine Pauillac that i've had in a while! Ruby with orange tinge. The nose is quite developed with hints of animal, leather, touch of ripe juicy plums with a slight underlying tone of florality. On the palate, good complexity with leather, cherries and plums and oak spices. Can tell that it has undergone some development with its emerging animal notes. Value wise is better than chateau rauzan-gassies 2008. (tasted alongside with RG 2008)
Good balance and overall a very delicious wine, especially at its price point.

Nice earthy mineral wine. The primary flavours are very subdued, with the medium long finish of blackcurrant, stones and earth. reminds me a lot of beringer knights valley.

A very powerful wine, I must say!
Dark red colour and a very strong nose.
Taste had a fruity start but a very dry finish. I'd advise to wait drinking this wine for the moment. A good wine already, but perhaps not ready to drink just yet. I'll try again next year.

Way beyond low expectation given poor reputation. Very nice bdx albeit not super complex, cedar notes and quite some barnyard initially. Vivid fruit and all parts intergrated, very enjoyable.

Nose old world and pleasant although passing. Probably better the first hour than after decant. Solid but a little thin.

Almost discernible as a Bordeaux wine! There is plenty of green notes on the nose, bell pepper stalks and blackcurrant leaves. There is also some coffee, dirt, prunes, vanilla, gravel and leather. Very mature to say the least.

Medium+ acidity, medium bodied, very dry finish with a slight warmth to it. Still some life around, but has seen better days. Medium intensity and length.

Drink up!

Not profound but proper. Good fruit, some tobacco or pencil lead on the nose and palate. Ripe enough but not sweet in any way. I don't think this will benefit from more time but probably has a 5-10 years left without worrying about decline.

Light in color and fruit, this early drinking blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc is slightly more interesting on the tobacco and red fruit nose, than in the crisp, slightly tart cranberry and cassis finish.

The wine was popped and decanted for half a day before drinking. Surprisingly, the cork condition was great and came out in one piece. Closed at first, the nose took a while to open up. While the concentration was lacking, the bouquet was dominated by tertiary flavors of leather, soy, brett, pepper, game and tobacco. There were just tinges of black fruit in the end - cherries to be exact. On the palate, the structure was supple with the tannins and minerality quietly asserting themselves. Again, the palate consisted predominantly of fermented soybeans, game, kirsch, anise and earth. Just a tingle of kirsch and mandarin peel. Acidity was high in this wine to inject some vivacity within the bevy of tertiary flavors. Finish was of medium length but overall, quite decent.

A small gaggle of wines with the Seattle Wine Group (Amaroso Room - Wine Storage Bellevue): 50th birthday birth year wine present from Jason.

First pour was wet wool right out the gate, but blew off over time. Nose had very little remaining. Surprised by the palate, decent taste of cherry and plenty of acid remaining. As to be expected, not particularly complex or long, but a nice glass of mature wine that has held up quite good. Thanks Jason!

End of Project Supper 2 (Bitton Restaurant, Erskinville): Leather, slight oxidation, brambly black fruit, autumn forest, very Bordeaux. On the plate juicy with tiny cassis then firm tannins and quite perfumed notes. Hmm

Donker robijnrood.

From Coravin. Bramble and blackcurrant, damp forest floor, touches of cream and spice. In the mouth the wine is juicy with flavours of black currant, liquorice and spice. Muted but talc like tannin; a little astringent in fact. Okay.

Upper shoulder fill, half crumbled/saturated cork. 12.2 alc. $29. dark brick tinge to see through wine. Amazing development after 10 mins, continuing, with a slight hickup of umami (subjective), red fruit, and, in a good way, a blood, game, iodiney sort of thing...again, in a good way. Some Bordeaux nose, but wth in a lighter, acid driven (integrated), but also flavorful palate. Regardless, it's a steal having a drinkable wine that's 44 years old for under 30 and not just for novelty factor, but that is a bonus!

If it weren't for the color, I wouldn't believe this is a 48 year old wine. What a lovely nose of cedar, wet forest and tobacco leaf. There's a leather note as well. On the palate it fools you for a wine half his age. I'd love to meet this wine's plastic surgeon. The fruit is still young, there's no indication of prunes, raisins or any cooked fruit. It's impeccable. What a wonderful bottle. I would score higher if the finish was a bit longer.
