I suspected from the moment I tried to extract the cork which was dried out and almost impossible to remove. Both of my cases were purchased from the same source and stored identically, and this was the first time in a decade of drinking. The vagaries of drinking Bordeaux! |

4/14/2024 - Decanting Queen wrote: 94 pointsAs with the Cos, this was drinking better than the bottle I had in ‘21. Very Ducru, lots of structure and noticeable but still reticent fruit. But drinking better than I would have anticipated for the limited decant time this probably saw. |

4/18/2024 - djhammond Likes this wine: 92 pointsConsistent with my note from 15 months ago,, I do feel ths is just entering the later stages of its prime drinking window. Blueberry and bell pepper are prominent, with a deeply aromatic nose and decent balance and depth on the palate. As noted last time, as the fruit has faded, the finish has been compromised, and is a little astringent. Minimal decanting is needed. |

4/17/2024 - TexasBob Likes this wine: 93 pointsVery deep garnet with a ruby core, completely clear. BlackBerry and old campfire on the nose with red. Errors laced around the edges. Intense raspberries with smoky elements and black plum skin. Long, lingering sweet tannins. Needs another five years minimum. Delicious. |

4/16/2024 - brennan18 wrote: 93 pointsGarnet in the glass & very tight upon opening with a strong profile of red fruit on the nose & palate. I agree with previous comments this wine needs 2.5-3.0 hours to unfurl and show it's stuff. I decanted into an ehrlenmeyer flask and tucked into the fridge for 2 hours before redecanting back into the bottle. Poured a glass and waited 30 minutes. Cherry, plum and dark fruit with spice, very balanced with fine tannins and a soft structure. You can tell this is the close relative of a grand vin. Spec's was running a special a few weeks ago and I picked this up for around $50.00 and at that price it's a bargain. I think it's ready to drink if decanted like above. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

4/15/2024 - CheviotCellar Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark body with vivid magenta hues. Nose has oak, plums, bramble. First glass was only 30 minutes after opening bottle. The rest of the bottle was 2 days later, and it had only softened a little. Its a nice wine, very elegant and rich plum and dark berry fruit but oak is prominent. There’s a lot of exuberance about drinking this wine now. Waiting 5-10 more years is the smart bet to have a more harmonious wine. 90-91 points now, 92-93 in future. 5 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

4/14/2024 - winelover1808 Likes this wine: 95 pointshad a few weeks ago. side by side of this with a 2012 Schrader LPV. wow loved them both. we decanted both for two hours and then had with dry aged rib eyes and NY Strips. def good punch to this - dense in color, powerful layers of fruit, pencil lead/tobacco on the nose and some of those savory herbs and well balanced acidity framing the red fruit on this. a medium+ bodied fuller St Julien and one that held its own vs a big CA cab |

4/12/2024 - jviz wrote: 94 pointsWhen it’s on, it’s on. I’ve only had the 89 (and a damaged 88) in the past, but this bottle was reconditioned at the chateau in 11 and to me shows more 86’ character than any other I’ve had from the vintage. Searing tannins slam the gate on an otherwise generous wine! This particular bottle was impressively fresh, and blind guesses centered in 98-01. Partly this owed to the color showing surprisingly youthful. It was also especially red fruited and bricked. More than a little educational. |

4/9/2024 - platpeeps Likes this wine: 95 pointsA classic St Julien; foursquare, with a firm structure and complex flavours of cassis, tobacco and leather with a touch of game. Spicy and with firm tannins, resulting in a pleasing structure, this still demonstrated freshness and savoury characters plus a lingering finish. Top drawer. CHP 95 pts |

4/11/2024 - Darbus123 Likes this wine: 96 points2hr decant then drank over another 2 hours. Just fabulous. I had the 1996 last year and this bottle was similar. Still some layers of lovely fruit but bolstered with amazing tertiary notes. Very long and classy. |

4/10/2024 - sdkaplan Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe nose on this wine is so beautiful. Classic st Julien. But the palate needs some time to develop. After 4 hours decanting it was still tight. Needs another 5-10 years to find its full groove. But a beautiful wine with tons of potential and still enjoyable now. |

4/3/2024 - Ohlawuly Likes this wine: NRI don’t know if it is bottle variation, or any problems during transportation or storage, this bottle just does not show very well tonight. The nose is reductive, closed, and the tannin is grippy and bitter. The wine is so tight and only changed little after 14-hr decanting. Very backward comparing to other 2009s I’ve tasted. However, you can still feel the finesse and elegance behind the curtain of tannin. I’m looking forward to taste it again maybe 5 years later. |

4/3/2024 - Purple Tooth wrote: 93 pointsSo beautifully French. This is a second wine that really comes in strong and makes you wonder if you really need to buy the big brother and wait 10 to 20 years, or just drink this all day long. Smolder of young tobacco floats off the top of a beautifully crafted big soft red, bringing you a well integrated cuve' experience. Reminds me of what first growth wines from sleeper vintages used to drink like in their youth. Something very sexy and appealing. Drink with 2 hours or more open time. |

3/31/2024 - LuckyLars Likes this wine: 92 pointsPopped and poured. Bouquet was a tad unyielding at first but revealed hints of tobacco, cedar and dark fruit. Medium bodied with good acidity and balance. A delicious wine with a solid finish. At a lovely point in it's maturity but I do not believe it has a few rather than many years ahead of it. |
