A sexy Bordeaux wine - medium to full bodied.. Dark fruits, mainly black currant.. solid with tannin dissolved in the wine.. very interesting but somehow remind me similar experience with Château d'Armailhac 2005 tasted before..

1st of 12, not decanted - deepish, bright garnet, merest trace of rim development; primary nose, cassis and dark cherry fruit with touch of tobacco and earth, pure; medium bodied, decent length, grip, quality and purity of fruit, but not very expressive and a touch dilute, classy though, barely ready on this showing and I suspect I'll be upping the marking in future. Today, very good indeed (17/20).

Deep red with violet hues and inky black center. Stunning nose of blackberry, graphite, ink and subtle floral notes. Black fruit notes on the palate with anise, graphite, and mint. Long blackberry finish. All of this supported by mild acidity, grippy tannins and appropriate alcohol (13.5%). The wine in this bottle was really in a good place. Perhaps a little early in the drinking window, but in the window nonetheless. Concentrated, intense, and absolutely beautiful!

This, after 3 hours in the decanter. It did develop in the glass.

colour bright some bricking. Nose on decanting a little rusty but cleared after 1 hour in decanter. Nose firm classic cedar and hint of tobacco . Palate lot of depth mineral firm structure , smoothed out over time to fine elegant classic claret showing some of the muscle of the vintage.
Plenty of life left

Old Bordeaux with Patrick back in town (Fabio's, NYC): Not sure if this was just over the hill or just an unrepresentative bottle, but this went to the dump bucket very quickly. Incredibly green and astringent with no fruit at all.

I'm a little disappointed after seeing all the high scores on here. Typical northern medoc at first but then the fruit is a little stewed and a bit drying on the finish. Maybe a little unresolved and will improve. This was 1st bottle out of a case so will leave for a few more years before trying again. I seem to consistently find this Chateau the weakest of the 3 Leovilles.

A nice wine, fully mature, with a softness to the fruit and tannins. There is no hurry to drink this, but it's probably not going to move much from here.

Brisket, Bordeaux, and Rhones: Brighter and sweeter than the 2002 Léoville Barton tasted with it, but with less complexity, and not nearly as complex or deep as the 2000 Léoville Poyferré tasted with it as well.

Brisket, Bordeaux, and Rhones: An excellent combination of ripe and savory, and the wood has integrated well. It is drinking nicely, but still has a lot of life left.

Opened, poured one glass. It wasn't great. Re-corked and set aside for 24 hours. Now it's where it needs to be! Earthy, cassis-rich nose, leather too. Palate of blackberry, old leather/tobacco, dry leaves, smoke. Very soft tannins.

No sign of bricking. Dark garnet to the edge, but plenty of sediment Deeply saturated flavors of dark fruits, anise, fresh acidity to balance. Long on the palate. Needs at least an hour in a decanter to open up. Tighter than the last bottle, which was delightful right out of the bottle.

15 notes on this site have been 94 plus and deservedly so. My 9th bottle of this wine and it is certainly a pointe (apologies for the lack of an accent on my keyboard). Had a bitter edge before 2010, drinking well from 2012 except for one slightly musty bottle last year. Great sweet cherry nose, complexity, lovely flavour and balance and huge length.

PnP and consumed over a 5 hour dinner. Much lighter in color and body than the vintage would suggest. Though, the beautiful nose is filled with very ripe dark, mostly black, fruits over a base of smoke and soil tones. Even with hours of air the mid-palate never filled out completely, but it's still a lovely wine that outperforms the vintage for my palate. Still young, but entering early maturity.

Review: I'm disappointed to see I never posted on this years ago! We had this in Chicago in Aug 2012 to commemorate our anniversary year. At that time, I thought it was waaaaayyyyy too young - completely impenetrable, even after hours of air. Tonight this was absolutely beautiful. From 750ml, decanted for hours in the morning, resealed then served 10 hrs later. Elegant. Complex. Vastly superior to the sum of all its parts. Truly worth seeking. Thanks, JW!

The first of my case, and wonderful. Better even than the '96. Still young, but smooth tannins with fresh acitity and aromas too complex for my descriptive powers. Not cheap anymore, but still worth buying.

Decanted two hours. Open for business and ready to serve the soft and supple tannins escort this medium body and subtly rounded elegant deep lavender purple lady to your loving memory from first sip to lasting finish. Sweet plum, currant, cassis and blackberry, the roasted coffee and chocolate merge with the cedar and licorice to offer a delicious experience, one that you would like to repeat.

Smoky oak, leather, tobacco, mushroom, spice, and dark fruit. Nice texture, well balanced, good length. Very good wine. But perhaps a bit underwhelming for the property and vintage.

Very dark red in color. With a youthful appearance, nice but somewhat shy on the nose. Dark fruit, earth and minerality are on the offering though a bit light at this stage. Palate is rich, silky and very well balanced with satisfying senses of plum meat, stone, tobacco leaf and refreshing acidity leading to a smoky finish. The 96 Poyferre seems to have a good depth in it, but maybe not at the right time to reveal it all, perhaps more cellaring time will help.

Perfect bottle. Great fill. Stored under perfect conditions.
Very, very young colour. Dark, dense, compact. Almost black.
Needs time in decanter to open up. At least 4 h. But the best glass I had was the one I saved for the next day ... so I must say it is at its best after 24 hours, that's how young this wine is. And this wine is 25 years old (young)!!
Wonderful bouquet of dark cherries, blackberries, mocca, leather, curry powder, pencil/graphite, cassis, oak, cedar and cigarr box.
Nice flavours, ripe cherries, coffee, meat, blood, bacon, chocolate, oak, cedar.
The tannins are obvious and quite tight, yet they stay in the background and integrates well with the fruit and the quite brisk acidity. I must say I like the acidity in this wine, just refreshing. Good balance.
But this wine lack the extra dimension that only the big wines offers, and the finish is a bit shorter than expected ... yet I love this wine and give it a good score, 93+ to 94.
This was a perfect match with Steak Frites!

Explodes out of the bottle. Deeply colored with little sign of age. Great complexity on the ever-morphing nose. Earthy mushroom, cigar box and damp soil. Leather and more leather. Cola and dark chocolate. Floral aromas not unlike a fine Nebbiolo. A slight green pepper component which seems a little intrusive. Black fruit too, but that dissipated rather quickly. An occasional charming whiff of eucalyptus.

Thick texture that coats the mouth. Huge concentration but with a wonderful freshness to it- a nice balancing act. Tannins are rather elegant. Finishes long.

An exceptional St Julien, but the overall package doesn't move me enough for a higher score.
