2 hour decant. Showed silky and refined, but not profound. Seemed to open up and do better with the last of our lamb chops. It didn't seem "done" - at the same time, it's probably not getting better. Drink up.

Plum and cedar on the nose. On palate fairly fully bodied; black tea with dry dusty tannins. Long finish. Drinking nicely now if you like austerity and tannins. Possibly will evolve and improve, but could fade as it may lack sufficient fruit to go the distance. When it hits, I really like Lafon Rochet, but it’s not a very consistent vineyard -- despite being able to sit and gaze at Lafite next door.

Notes of fresh dark fruit, vanilla, cedar, thyme and earth, palate has nice fruit biut a touch austere, with bitter tannins killing the finish

Yes not the most profound wine ever, but at the price point beats any competitor, nose is loaded with dark blue fruit, ceder, mocha and gravel, palate is fresh with the same dark blue fruit, with herbs and austerity turn the experience quite classic

Dark ruby with no sediment, this wine is essentially mature yet needs a long decant to release plum, date and dark cherry.
Decent claret but not exceptional, I highly doubt more bottle age helps because there isn't much to work with considering 2000 was a rock star vintage.

Average+ at best

I remember some exotic oak and over-ripe fruit scents when this wine was young; those have really subsided now. Rich in flavour but a bit too dark and hard to enjoy. For purists of classic St Estephe today. If it developed more aromatic complexity without drying out too much it could still go places.

still feel this is one of the best priced chateaux in Bordeaux, lots of vanilla, spice, tobacco leaf, with lots of deep dark fruit on the nose, palate is quite rich and upfront with the same dark fruit and tobacco leaf notes through the mid palate but the dusty dry tannins are pronounced on the finish though not excessively just noticeable

The nose showed intense red berry and cedar with minty herbal tones adding freshness. On the palate, it showed soft, supple textures with red currant and wild berry fruits, licorice and tarry tannin providing grip and balance. It was long on concentrated red berry and herbs throughout the finish. The ’06 Lafon-Rochet was very pleasant and easy to like.

Ultimo lunch time tasting (Ultimo wine centre (but now vintage cellars)): Blackcurrant and a slightly inky quality along with crushed rocks, cedar and slight brambles. In the mouth there is dense black fruit then firm drying but fine textured tannins. Long. Very long in fact. Oh, this is rather nice. Lovely in fact.

90-91 pts

Good nose, still young. Mid-palate seems hollow. A bit too fruity for Bordeaux. Lacks some tannin but acid is good. I'd say this needs about 5 years to develop into Bordeaux.

At a classified Bordeaux tasting, followed a 1990 Lafon-Rochet. Interesting to see how this can develop. Much more fruit-forward in its youth, but still, the structure and complexity are there.

Nice nose. After just 15 minutes of air, the wine was ready to go. Some truffle, cassis and black fruit with a bit of almond on the finish.

Following the all the assessments that the '03s are evolving rapidly and need to be tended to, I decided to pull my first of two bottles. Indeed, it seemed more evolved than you'd expect at this age, but this is an '03. I personally liked this vintage on release, and found this estate enjoyable, showing odd raspberry notes on the nose, which were melded with licorice, cedar, mint, and minerals (iron). Good, medium sized wine still packaged in a notable structure, little heat detected, although not especially complex in the mouth, or long on the finish. I'll hold my last bottle another 2-3 years to see what comes of it...

AHA Bordeaux Wine Tasting of the 2012 vintage with a surprise additional year: Strong tannins at 8.5 - better for me than the 2012. A light fruity start (just a hint) that never moves from the hint it starts with.

Bottle stored in passive cellar since release and fill was below shoulder, so the expectations were this wine was likely going down the sink. To build on that expectation, the top of the cork was moldy, the overly moist cork crumbled upon extractionn, the wine was brown and there is really not much on the nose. Surprisingly, the wine still was drinkable, although clearly way past its prime. Dry, with fruit and tannins very reduced. Nonetheless, there was enough left to show former character and to make worth consuming.
