This has everything it takes to be a good textbook mature bordeaux. The nose had some wet forest floor, wild berries, cigar box, pencil shaving and sweetness. The palate was smoothe and sweet. Although its not tremendouly complex, its drinking in an amazing window now. I would drink this now and 5 years onward. It was less powerful than 2000 Lagrange but the smootheness and elegance of this were better.

Still VERY primary - this is going to need another 10 years to come round, a lot like the 1990s that are tight as a drum. 3 hours in a decanter (as per the recommendations below) loosened this up a touch but it is all about black fruit and chunky tannins. Great potential - just leave it for now. I wish I had.

From magnum with Sandy. Vanilla and plums, soft and sweet. Like many 03's now a touch light palate but they could put the weight back on in time. Some bitterness at first. Decent length.

Beautiful bouquet with well integrated oak and good fruits. On the palate the same with fine fresh citrus and some butter and pleasant bitterness in the finish.

Superb wine. Right at the top, but will certainly stay there a few more years. Luckily I still have a few bottels left to enjoy.

Wine Club Jr (Bordeaux) (Sommerfeld's Place, SF): Medium garnet. Nose was a bit more primary than I expected (compared to 2000 vintage consumed a few weeks back). Crushed raspberries, black cherry, ripe plum, eucalyptus, cedar, and mint. Elegant and a bit light on the palate. Body, acid, alcohol, tannins were well balanced and all medium. Medium+ length finish.

A classy beauty, just beginning to shine. Not super extracted, a more delicate style. I expect it will be in it's prime over the next ten years.

Decanted for two hours. A lot of caramel, oak and black currants. The palate did not evolve at all due to ifs youth. Still way too young. Unlike many Lagrange I tried, this wine did not have the grass and green pepper note. I think this wine will be something lovely in 5-10 years. If I insist to drink this today, I would decant at least 6 hours or slow ox it for a day. This one could turn out to be as good as the 2000 Lagrange today with some aging.

Undergrowth and cherry on the nose. Palate is in the leaner style that one might expect from the nose and I don't mind that, but there isn't a lot of character at the moment. Wait and see.

Dim Sum Club at Ding Dong (Ding Dong, Ann Siang Hill, Singapore): I liked this quite a bit the last time I tried it. Not so impressed this time round. It was still decently good, but rather tighter and woodier and less charming. On the nose, a distinctly brambly, spicy twang cut through rich aromas of plums and blueberries that almost brought to mind Syrah. Only with time and air did a more Bordelais hint of capsicum start drifting out. A more old world sensibility set in on the palate, with grippy, slightly powdery tannins and juicy acidity forming a frame for chewy flavours of cassis, plums and dark berries. The finish was a bit muted, maybe even muddled, with structure and fruit and a little herby, brambly note stumbling their way into a rather unconvincing end. Altogether, not bad, but not great. This seems to be going through an awkward stage. I would lay it aside for 4-5 years and hope it works itself out by then and reverts to the rather more charming wine that I remember.

Beau bordeaux de facture classique dans un millésime difficile.
Un peu mentholé, belle fraicheur et amplitude, impeccable. La maison a su tirer l`épingle de son jeu sur ce 2006!

Nose: The nose is sumptuous with dark red cherries, pencil lead, cranberries, tobacco, cedar notes, and a touch of leather.

Taste: Medium bodied with silky tannins and medium acidity. The structure is starting to retreat, but it's still there along with dark red cherries, tobacco, cranberries, and some spice box notes.

Overall: This is just starting to drink. It's young and has a long way to go.

Second Sunday Group: 2012 Bordeaux (Mike's): Aromas of dark fruit, potpourri, lavender and dusty earth with a hint of cedar as well. Slightly austere; dark fruit dominates. Opens in the glass, revealing more florals and earth with dark fruit underneath. More approachable and balanced on the palate, the fruit has come forward and the tannins are less obtrusive. Flavors of cherry, raspberry and plum with a nice herbal undertone. Lengthy finish. 92-93 pts.

My #2, Domino's #8
Group #7, 57 pts

Drinking brilliantly but with a little life left too. Beautiful deep burgundy, with notes of polished dark redwood and few signs of age. On the nose cassis with hints of chocolate and a little mint - which become more menthol-like at the back of the nose. The smell is both restrained and powerful. Good structure. Black fruits with notes of mushroom and wood. Dryness resulting from some soft, nicely integrated tannins. Cassis and some slight spice on the long finish.

Bordeaux 1998 tasting by my friend who calls himself “100wines”: The bouquet is not extremely expressive, but there are dark forest fruits, some chocolate and not unpleasant bell pepper impressions. On the palate a concentrated wine with dark and red berry fruits, earth, pepper, green bell pepper, chocolate, green herbs, good acidity, fairly soft tannin and good bitterness in the finish. Overall a fairly full bodied, firm and juicy wine. Maybe lacking a bit in real finesse at the moment. For tonight 90+, but it might improve…. See also my previous notes.

Probably the best bottle we have had of this to date (So far we rated this 92).
Decabted and served. Needs a touch of decanting to open up but not much. Glorious, classic claret full of character and elegance. Still on th efruit, yeat with an earthy, leathery side, cedar, tobacco and just excellent. A touch dry on the finish but vs price this is superb value. 93 and full of life.

Some Grilling with the Toronto Cru (Toronto, ON): This is showing even a touch darker and more primary than the Cos poured previously. The nose is of plum, dark cherry, cassis, blackberry, alcohol, tar, smoked meat, stewed vegetables and leather. The palate is low in perceived tannin, medium minus in acid and comes across just a touch bitter. Still quite a nice drink overall.

Ultimo lunch time tasting (Ultimo wine centre (but now vintage cellars)): Slight herbaceous, pyrazine aromas sit behind bramble, blackcurrant, cream and vanilla. In the mouth the wine has more of the same from a flavour perspective. The tannins are very drying and tough though a little of the fruit carries beneath this brutal grip. Needs time. It's okay.
