Just odered this over the weekend in a restaurant at a comparably very good price. It was a stellar bottle and can't see why the drinking window would have ended in 2008

Deep warm red colour. Very aromatic: blackberry, earth tones coffee, chocolate, vanilla and pepper. Full bodied with good balance. Lots of fruit left!

Black raspberry and dark sweet spice on the nose. Blackberry and black cherry on the palate, but not much else. A pleasant but uncomplicated wine.

Bordeaux 1998 tasting by my friend who calls himself “100wines”: The bouquet is not extremely expressive, but there are dark forest fruits, some chocolate and not unpleasant bell pepper impressions. On the palate a concentrated wine with dark and red berry fruits, earth, pepper, green bell pepper, chocolate, green herbs, good acidity, fairly soft tannin and good bitterness in the finish. Overall a fairly full bodied, firm and juicy wine. Maybe lacking a bit in real finesse at the moment. For tonight 90+, but it might improve…. See also my previous notes.

Probably the best bottle we have had of this to date (So far we rated this 92).
Decabted and served. Needs a touch of decanting to open up but not much. Glorious, classic claret full of character and elegance. Still on th efruit, yeat with an earthy, leathery side, cedar, tobacco and just excellent. A touch dry on the finish but vs price this is superb value. 93 and full of life.

Some Grilling with the Toronto Cru (Toronto, ON): This is showing even a touch darker and more primary than the Cos poured previously. The nose is of plum, dark cherry, cassis, blackberry, alcohol, tar, smoked meat, stewed vegetables and leather. The palate is low in perceived tannin, medium minus in acid and comes across just a touch bitter. Still quite a nice drink overall.

Ultimo lunch time tasting (Ultimo wine centre (but now vintage cellars)): Slight herbaceous, pyrazine aromas sit behind bramble, blackcurrant, cream and vanilla. In the mouth the wine has more of the same from a flavour perspective. The tannins are very drying and tough though a little of the fruit carries beneath this brutal grip. Needs time. It's okay.

Quite similar to the '04 that was in the tasting. It, too, has a little green pepper upon entry. The fruit is good, but a little less capable for carrying the midpalate and keeping the finish strong. Still a very good wine.

This was my top wine of the tasting, but the group ranked it #2 by a very slight decrement. The wine has excellent balance and has become fully integrated. A few years back, it was almost undrinkable, as the tannin completely took over and was a harsh taskmaster. Now, the tannin has become tame and is working well with acid and fruit. There is a little green pepper upon entry, which is not a bad thing, and it walks into the background as the midpalate fruit takes over and carries through to the finish. This wine has really come around and shows an '04 can be a fine wine, too.

Opened and poured. Chocolate, roasted coffee, clove, cassis - lingering tobacco finish. Very good. Balanced and ready to go. Delish.

recently acquired and well worth the price - excellent Bordeaux that id drinking very well now - when initially opened it was too acidic - it needs time to open up even after decanting. After a good hour of aeration - the medium tannins and the complexity of flavor came through; a wonderful wine and an excellent companion to food and on its own.

Very enjoyable and at the moment, better than the 00. Cigar box and blackcurrant aromas, then the usual slightly spicy blackcurrant and cherry flavours, with good grip and structure. Just lacks that mid-palate sparkle of the great vintages, otherwise excellent.

First bottle from a case aligns with recent notes from 2015. Drinking nicely, with several years of life left IMHO. Big, rich, full bodied wine. Nice QPR at $25 en primeur

Dark, rich, concentrated color that is very youthful. The nose was a bit closed as was the first sip, which also seemed well balanced and soft. After a second the tannins came on and the spicy fruit flavors became very intense. This wine is still young and although it is drinkable now I could only match it to a rare but charred steak.

5dan FAIL dinner: aiming at November! (Bisi-Basi, Yokohama): This is an amazing Bdx. Favourite btl of tonight and especially enjoyed by Suda sensei. Open for business after 3 hrs decant. Not at all as tight as the previous btl. However, we'd guess that ~2020 is the start of their plateau, according to our taste.
...but it's darn good as is!

Cassis and leather nose with dark berry fruit, earth and oak on the palate. Well integrated tannins improve with time in the glass. This wine is drinking well now but will improve over the next 5 yrs.

What an improvement this estate has undergone! This 375, with an hour's decant, expressed classic St Julien flavors, with a strong backbone, plenty of dark cherry, cassis and cedar, some moss and earthy tones to be sure; a delightful experience, especially given the less than stellar showing in decades past.

Decanted for 2 hours and drank an hour later. Smooth and long...yes a little heavy on the oak, but medium to long finish. Drinking well with a decant. Branaire 2000 showed promise, but was drinking much tighter and closed this night.

Medium ruby. Chocolaty nose on the top note with some vanilla, oak and spices following. Not particularly complex, more like a well made commercial wine. On the palate soft and round like all 2009s but I am missing aromatic complexity for a higher score. Time may bring this.

Popped and poured. It was showing nicely in the glass after 30 mins. A mature, young to drink bordeaux. The nose had dark currants, herbs, mushroom, and a sweet nose. The wine reflected the ripe vintage. However, the palate was not as deep and concentrated as Lagrange 2000. The finish was a bit dry. Better than 2007 Lagrange but not as good as his 2000 vintage. I would drink this now as I dont see it to improve with more aging.

Had top class spicy, aromatic and complex aromas of oaky, cedary, vanillary bluberries, plums, flowers, cassis and leather. Its medium to full bodied eliptical and elegant palate has lovely concentration, a very oaky, plump and fruity deliniated middle and ends long, fresh and rolling. Will improve.
