2005 Château Plince

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

7/3/2015 - Number51 wrote: NR

2005 Chateau Plince is dark and smoky with tobacco leaves, black pepper, and cherry juice. Good dose of acidity and low alcohol (13% on the label) give it brightness and a charming personality. This was fantastic after 30 minutes (91 points quality), but it became weak and skim-milky with another 30 minutes after that. (87 points quality)
I don’t think this should be decanted. It was somewhat drinkable on the second day, but if you can, finish it on the first day.

Russk. Bought from Peter. Enjoyable. But not worth paying 40 bucks again.

Lots of ripe merlot fruit, but very well balanced and long. Complex secondary flavours are starting to develop in this wine, which I think has reached a perfect stage.
Lovely classic Pomerol, long complex and delicious!!

Very nice. Consistent with my last note of this one. Perhaps slightly better than two years ago. However, lots of fun for a fair price.

With an odd nose of salty, red berries, dusty tannins and bright, red fruits, this is best in its youth. 84-86 Pts

Dark plumish purple-red in color, crimson rim; a lot of depot in the bottle;
Not too complex on the nose: Milk-chocolate, raspberries, a hint of baked plum; black tea and currant: on the downside!
Still drinkable with a certain charme, lightweight & superficially hedonistic, an easy drinking pleasure; smooth body, silky tannins & short finish; do not keep any longer - drink up!

Inky black in hue and very black-fruited on the palate, too. This is one of those right bankers I could easily confuse for left, especially as the originally soft structure flexes its muscles a bit more with air.

This was one of the more enjoyable Bordeaux I've had in awhile, despite my California-leaning palate and only 13% ABV.
Smooth yet chalky tannins, and this went well with food. A bit lacking in fruit for my wife's palate, but I found this well balanced. Aromas and flavors of bramble, leather, tea, and spice. Just enjoyable.
Me - 91, Wife - 89.

Enjoyed on New Years Evening with Beef Wellington, very mature with earthy nose, light and elegant in the mouth and nice tannins. I liked and will enjoy my lost bottle soon.

Dark ruby, mild nose of rose, black fruit, with a mild dose of earthiness and minerality. Smooth and soft, this wine is ready to drink. Not sure how much it will age but most likely won't fall off for a year or two.

Sexy, opulent, but structured Merlot-dominant blend, with a tiny bit of modern Left Bank character and depth that allows it to transcend the varietal boundaries and avoid simply monolithic grandeur. This is as good as it gets under $100. from Pomerol.

Inspired by bullmrkt's recent note I popped it open last night and I was impressed how well it was drinking. Red fruited and very elegant with some herbal funkiness on the finish. On night two, the wine tightened and more of the tannic structure came forward. I can't believe this cost less than $20.

Rich, savory, with good red and dark fruit on the palate with lingering minerality, herbs, leather, espresso, chocolate, and baking spices. This is still thin and hollow on the mid-palate, but should improve with time. The Cab Franc really shines in this wine.

Subtle smoke and barnyard funk, red fruits, cedar, smooth clean finish. This is so well balanced that it seems to be weightless on the palate, and embodies what I love about Bordeaux. I continue to be impressed with the 2008 Bordeaux vintage, and they are great values in the wake of '09/'10 to boot.

The bottom line: this wine has gusto with a good deal of longevity to carry it through for at least five more years. The color is a deep ruby with a tinge of brown at the rim. The nose is a bit tight showing leather, raw meat, violet, and dark berries. The palate boasts cherry, dark berries, and licorice but the fruit is not overbearing. Add to that black pepper, mushroom, some violet, and green pepper. What makes it for me is the hint of bitterness, the well balanced acidity, and the firm yet silky tannins that give the wine gusto. Enjoy it with a nice piece of grilled meat. An excellent companion to a well-seasoned pepper steak.

Pristine bottle, not decanted. Ripe fruit of cherries and plums, earth and spice, airy fragrance; medium weight on the palate, creamy and moreish, finely grained tannins, lovely balance, juicy acidity, liquorice; good length. This charming wine from light, sandy soils, makes the most of the ripe vintage of 2000. Drink up.
