80% Malbec, 20% Merlot
from siliceous and silico-clay soils ranging from river pebbles
to granular sand interspersed with clay pockets.
De-stemmed. Fermentation in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks.
Controlled malolactic. Aged in stainless steel vats.
13% Abv.
Ownership: Château Rochet Lamothe is part of Des Domaines Roche
(based at 54 ha Château Croze de Pys in Vire-sur-Lot)
acquired from Jean Roche (4th gen) by La Société Vins et Compagnies
(creators of Fruitt'y Vin) in 2015.
Principals: Fabien Coirault, François Drougard, et al.
Winemaker: Laurent Boulanger

A(ccuray)=2: Deep ruby. Spicy, plummy blend.
B(alance)=2: Distinctive fruit with low key structure.
C(omplexity)=2: Dark berries, pepper, licorice.
D(epth)=1: Warm mouthfeel. Average length and finish.

Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,1]= 7/10

Softer, early drinking style than traditional Cahors.

Tasted over two days. This will not win any awards complexity, but there is substance to it, as well as very good balance and structure. Better on the second day.

inky purple and mediium bodied. The Rochet Lamothe Malbec from Cahors has a fruity nose of dark fruits and spices. Viscous and smooth in the mouth with tastes of mulberry, blackberry and a firm peppery background to keep things lively. The finish had decent length.
