Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more

Oak, smoke, tobacco and ripe, sweet, dark fruits with a hint of cocoa open the wine. Air definitely helped the wine show better. It's still quite young today. Soft, round and smooth in texture, with good concentration of flavor, due to very low yields of only 24 hectoliters per hectare, the wine needs another 3-5 years to unfurl its full array of charms.

Beautiful nose of blackberry, mineral and tar. Behind this lurked a fulsome, savory wine that was at once elegantly charming but also darkly complex, with a slightly brooding character. Kind of like the nice lady I shared this bottle with..

Revisiting Graves (Vinexpo, Bordeaux): Not much difference from when I tried in April. Rich and even a bit heady but with sap and acidity, and here we have 90% Sauvignon Blanc that is ripe and savory and matching well the high acidity of the vintage. Medium plus body and medium plus finish.

Revisiting Graves (Vinexpo, Bordeaux): My positive April feeling is confirmed in June. Smooth and even iodine in aspect, the freshness of the vintage is balanced by this barrel sample's rich and almost heady aspect - medium plus body - but maintains a certain precision and lift through to the long finish. Nice job!

Salty, tangy, sea air nose. The taste is a huge wave of mineral richness, yellow and gold fruit with crushed shells. A little bit of smoke, nice balanced acidity, but Hoo-Aah, that minerality!

Showing a golden hue, the wine, with its apple pie and apple and cashew notes tastes like a 20 year old wine that is fading. Based on this bottle, this requires consumption.

Coffee, smoke, baked cherries, tar, caramel and thyme open the nose. Combining round textures with freshness, this can be enjoyed now, as you can see from the secondary notes, if you allow it an hour or two of air. But a few more years will add more softness and complexity along with additional time to integrate the oak into the wine.

solid classy mineral based Blanc that was so classy. We drank a bottle and devoured a wheel of Camembert cheese crackers, prosciutto and toppled the crackers with rose petal and seedless Trappist made raspberry preserves. Really held up nicely with stone fruit, some greener tree fruit like green apple and pear. The mineral and finish is what delineated this wine. It's like a cutting liquid limestone with favors, acids and manners. Good finish that leaves you thinking. Maybe deserving of a higher score upon retrospect. It has major competition.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon-green color, with watery rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of green fruit such as pear, stone fruit of peach, herbaceous notes of grass, oak notes of toast, dairy notes of butter and cream, maturity notes of hay. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium alcohol and medium body. It has medium (+) flavors of green fruit such as pear, stone fruit of peach, oak notes of toast, dairy notes of cream and butter, herbaceous notes of grass. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Bordeaux white showing the elegance and refined characters, with clear Sauvignon Blanc notes permeating, it has a good intensity and complexity on the nose, accompanying by nice acidity and balance on the palate. The wine exhibits a beautiful oak and fruit blend, with good concentration and also a long finish. It is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 2-3 years.

Needs an hour decant. Light tobacco, sweet berries and summer afternoon on the nose gives way to plum, currant, blackberry and a little spice on the palate with some chocolate on the finish. Less minerality on the finish than I recall in the 2010.

Great wine for the price. I found the 2010 to be a softer more well rounded wine that rolled around the mouth a little nicer.

Tasted next to 2000 Domaine de Chevalier blanc. This is obviously a bit more compact and tighter but still shows lovely complexity and depth on the nose - richness of pear, tropical fruit and honey combined with lemon peel, grapefruit, herbal and floral notes. Just wonderful. On the palate rich and substantial, slightly waxy but again good acidity, ripe fruit, some minerality as well. Super length. Not quite blossoming yet, but there lots of promise. Keep. 93-95(+)

From imperial. Rich and ripe, slightly sweet fruit on the intense nose, mixed with spices, cedar and tobacco. Quite big and intense on the palate as well, again quite sweet and low in acidity. Not too much fruit, drying tannins and a bit hollow. Drying, persistent finish. I wouldn't keep these for much longer. 89-91

The aromatics dominant upon release are now muted by the massive creamy richness and structure of this wine. Quince and a touch of butter pecan ice cream and slight whiff of smoke. Very rich but carries its weight. Not surprising that it would lose its brightness and lift in this concentrated vintage. Fully mature. This is for rich seafood or Butter Chicken.

Dark and saturated in color and nose. Blackberry, cassis tobacco, cedar, herbs and chocolate on the nose and palate. Rich and mouth filing on the palate with a long finish. Incredible QPR. Delicious now, but will probably improve with age.

Currant and tobacco on the nose. Cassis, coffee, crushed flowers, chocolate and a bit of minerality on the finish. Tannins are smooth and reasonably integrated. Alchohol and acidity are up there. Could sit nicely in the cellar. This is a damn good wine for the price. Wow.

One of the best values in a 2010 Bordeaux I can possibly imagine.

Dark inky purple in color. Night #1: decanted 3 hours. Lots of dark fruits, coffee, mineral, and licorice. Tannins in the forefront. Full-bodied, velvety. Long finish. Night #2: completely changed on the second day. Many more red fruits (strawberry, red currant), pepper, and rich chocolate. Seemed to be much more balanced on the palate, but tannins need better integration. On the first night, I wasn't sure where this wine is headed; on the second night, it became clear that this is going to turn into a very nice wine. This can drink well young, but it really needs a lot of air. Otherwise, give this a few years and it should provide a lot of enjoyment.

Aroma: Graphite, barnyard, smoky dried cherry.
Palate: Smooth tannins
Flavor: Smoky, earthy, dried cassis, dried cherry, graphite.
Comment: I doubt I'll ever tire of the classic earthy and smoky dried berry character that makes up a good, aged Bordeaux wine. Lovely.

Westchester Wine School: Pessac Leognan Tasting (White Plains, NY): Drank blind at WWS Pessac tasting vs a 2007 SHL. It was readily apparent which wine was which, though that's not to say I didn't like the younger wine: I did very much; I just liked this one more. No bricking that I could tell, a wonderful deep ruby core showing this bottle was aging quite well. Lots of tobacco, tar and earth on the nose. Similarly, I found the same elements on the palate, along with still very evident levels of black fruit, though with a very nice subtlety. Clearly, this wine had nowhere near the same fruit level as did the 2007, nor was it as sweet or juicy. This wine was very nicely balanced finely showing its earthiness, mushrooms and leather, along with very nice spiciness. This wine has already, and continues to develop wonderfully, still with a decent drinking window ahead. The WOTN by far.

Westchester Wine School: Pessac Leognan Tasting (White Plains, NY): Drank blind at WWS Pessac tasting vs a 1998 SHL that I provided. It was obvious on sight, nose and palate which wine was which. The 2007 had bright fruit, good spiciness, a slight savory quality. The juicy, fairly sweet fruit was dominant here which made it apparent that this was the younger of the 2 wines. Somewhat tannic, though not disturbingly so. Nice flavor of cloves on the finish. Drinking nicely now, but could do with further bottle age which will hopefully make it a more balanced wine.

Opened one and slowox for some 6h, stored cold. Nice complex nose but thin and coarse palate, must be an off bottle. Just no sense of the balance I remember. So, open a second bottle with much hopes for different experience. Straight from bottle but 100% similar to the first bottle. What is wrong? These are pretty close to undrinkable. very long taste actually but nothing in the pleasant sphere. Dare not open a third!

Burger and bordeaux night. Opened 6 hours ahead but no decant. Great fruit jumped from bottle. Beautiful older color brownish red. Great nose of balanced fuit and spice. On palate a very well balanced medium weight wine. Very, very good. Solid finish! Fruit stayed around. This will get better even.
