12/21/2023 - Barolo Raymond Likes this wine: 90 pointsBSc graduation dinner Mees M. Franssen (Mont Tremblant): Cork was in pristine condition: ~5 mm penetration, elastic. Medium(+) garnet, slow moving tears and only 12.5% abv. Upon opening a distinct barnyard smell that was faded and plum, musk, lead pencil appeared. Dry, medium acidity, medium silky tannin, medium alcohol and body. Palate of black plum, blackberry, cranbery, dark cocoa, savory notes like leather and tobacco. Slightly rustic with some edge. Good length finish, structured and a vibrant finish. |

This has always been one of my favorite Saint-Juliens cru bourgeois, never really disappointing and sometimes outperforming, as in this vintage. Very dark hue, bordering on opaque. On the nose cassis tones as well as plums. Good stuffing and nice acidic bakcbone. Tannins have resolved fully, making me conclude this wine will not develop much further, although it will stay on its plateau of maturity for years to come. Splendid effort! |

11/13/2020 - Marc S wrote: 89 points- Brick color with medium forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant and blackberry with a medium body. Polished texture with a short finish - I find this wine to be an incredible value for $20.00. Beautiful rounded nose of black cherry which is very pronounced. There are still tannins in this wine. Finish is short. |

8/28/2019 - Rwrrw Likes this wine: 90 points1hr air. Colour is deep purple; nose is perfume and spice; palate is tame but the body and melted tannin makes it so nice to drink. My inclination is it won't now get better but proper good at the moment. |

11/23/2018 - NathanT wrote: 90 pointsSurprisingly fresh for its age and vintage. This little known St Julien chateau delivered and for such a tiny price tag compared to its neighbors (leoville barton, Talbot, Gruaud-Larose, Beychevelle and Ducru-Beaucaillou). While the terroir is there, the wine making process may be the weaker link. Lighter concentration than its classified neighbors, juicy red cherries, mild tannins, medium acidity. Classic Bordeaux nose to start off. Those who are averse to heavy use of French oak may find this wine more to their liking than the classified St Julien chateaux. |

1/8/2018 - ledocq Likes this wine: 91 pointsHad zero expectations for this (17-year-old $30 Cru Bourgeoise) and it was a real surprise. Needed an hour open in the glass still but then turned into a well-developed if not overly complex mature Bordeaux. No regrets. Paired it with cowyboy steaks. |

12/20/2016 - jlhkiss Likes this wine: 91 pointsOpened and drank off the pop and pour with a savory chicken and rice dish. The nose is heavily perfumed bringing a variety of candied red fruit, red flowers, and wild herbs. The palate is medium, square, and mellowing out, with sweet black fruit mixed nicely with rich savory mushrooms, leather, and dried tobacco. The finish is near perfect in terms of tannic/acidity balance and refinement. Overall, consistent with my previous notes, but this classic claret has improved and filled out (body) quite a bit over the past year or so. Seems like this may be at peak. Technical score: 89. Enjoyment score: 93. |

12/3/2016 - englishman's claret wrote: 89 pointsBlackcurrant, cedar, biscuit, and mineral. Needed half an hour in the decanter to flesh out. A bit hot and a bit simple, but St Julien enough to be satisfying. I disagree with the drinking window of 2007-2013 and suspect that a few more years of age will lend this a little more harmony and complexity based on its positive evolution in the decanter. |

7/2/2016 - Julian Marshall Likes this wine: 88 pointsA great advert for St.Julien Crus Bourgeois, or even just CBs in general, this has developed well since the last bottle tried nearly four years ago. Still a bright attack of blackberries and red cherries, underscored by yeast and spices, with a middle section just lacking the fruit and sweetness of a great vintage, but what makes it is the broad, soaring finish. Admittedly this was stored in perfect conditions for the 12 years it spent in the cellar, but still quite a good surprise: it offers CC quality or thereabouts at a fraction of the price. Almost as good as Clos du Marquis 2000, in the same vintage it would be even closer, at 3 times cheaper. |

7/28/2015 - jlhkiss Likes this wine: 88 pointsOpened and let air for 1.5 hours before dinner of seared sirloin steak, baked potatoes, and mixed veggies. Dark, cloudy Crimson color. Nose brings roses, lush raspberries, wild herbs, and touches of strawberry pie. The palate is medium, elegant, round, and thin, bringing dark cherries, horse saddle, plums, and tangy raspberry baking spices into the finish, which brings nicely integrated tannins. Not going to get any more complex but should soften up over the next five years. Drink before 2020. |
