From a magnum. Impeccably cellared since release and it really shows the difference such storage makes. This was a great accompaniment to a Shepherds pie and general New Year's Day frivolity with mates. Very fresh black fruit character underscored by some now fully integrated tannins which added a velvet sheen. Really hard to fault this for sheer ease of drinking. Just needed more aroma and length to go up the score sheet.

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc (as stated on the label), this deep ruby wine offers aromas and flavors of red currants, cherries, licorice and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (13%) and with medium sweet tannins, it thins a bit in the middle but manages to resurrect a medium-length, tart finish. While this may fill in its mid-palate with some time in the cellar, it is not a heavyweight and is already drinking relatively well . Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. Drink now-2022.

Yes it's still closed and tight and the acid is still a little bitter but I felt there was enough going on to give benefit of doubt. Dark berries and liquorice - tannins very drying at present. I enjoyed and could sense what this could be given time. Won't be opening again for 5 yrs.

What can I add too my last note. This time I got the dark cherries. The balance is brilliant and the length huge. Will still improve, if you can wait.

Really need to try this alone or with its peers. Good, but a poor second to the '05 Pontet-Canet we drank with it. A great value for the price.

Have to agree with previous tasters. This is very balanced, refined and enjoyable. No flaws whatsoever. The one thing it misses is complexity.

Dinner next day: wow! I can't say it gained so much complexity overnight but what an absolute joy to drink next to the rabbit dish my wife prepared. She being an Italian red wine lover was also blown away by the sheer pleasure of this wine. So much fruit and structure. A stong 91+ therefore.

Deep purple. Nice nose of spice, tea, hint of blackberry. Medium weight on palate with some acid and spice and lingering finish. Fairly refined but lacking complexity. Decent. Decanted 1.5 hours.

Decanted about 45 minutes, solid body, nice fruit, and undercurrent of acid - perfect accompanying a mild goulash (beef)

Very dark purple colour; Earth notes dominate the nose; full bodied with quite gritty tannins; not a heap of fruit, pleasant enough but other than some softening not sure if it will improve a hell of a lot.

Nice bordeaux for the price point. Blackberry, a bit of cherry. Hints of earth and licorice. Palate follows bouquet. Not overly fruit forward like Many CA cabs and merlots. This is right bank I believe so merlot would be the base. Seems clear. Bit softer than Cab and made to drink now. I like it for a pleasant and uncomplicated wine. Stands fine on its own but would also be fine with foods where it can hold its own. Pasta, broiled steak, prime rib but not heavily spiced or blackened meats or meals that have a lot of flare or character. Wine would get lost.

With Sandy. I was half expecting this to be another overripe, overblown Merlot, points chasing travesty; but should have known better from such a brilliant winemaker. Blackberry and oak nose, lots of complexity, length and balance. Tempted to open another bottle. Should have given Chris the white she wanted and had more of this for myself. Will improve. Great value.

To my surprise, tasted less impressive and much more closed down than the previous bottle from March 2014. On the palate, had fleeting streaks of cigar and horse sweat, but never fully opened up, even after hours of decanting (and even the following day). Strong tannins. Not yet fully seeing where this wine is headed. No desire to open another bottle soon.

I've loved this wine--a pure expression of Bordeaux terroir, with its leather, barnyard, and fruit. But now it is on the way down. And I'll miss it. Kudos to the winemaker, a mensch.

Tried another bottle tonight. See also my previous note(s). I don’t have so much new to add, except that the wine became even a bit more approachable. Harmonious and beautifully balanced. Early maturity stage now. I will drink one bottle every year to see how this develops. For tonight 90 – 91 and I think it might improve a bit with some more ageing. Great qpr!

This wine shows notes of burned coffee, coffee grounds, blackcurrant and a green, vegetal touch on the nose. On the palate it's medium bodied, with low tannins and medium acidity, and as the nose, not showing a lot of fruits. Instead it's burned, vegetal and sweet on the finish. Just another mediocre St. Emilion GC.

Pop and pour through the aerator, no waiting. In the glass: Deep garnet, slow fat legs. On the nose: Hot spice, liquorice, whiff of plum, charcoal & wood. In the mouth: Med/full mouth feel, good concentration of the nose, some dry tannins in the middle, weenzy bitter on the finish. Nice.

Took an hour plus to begin to open up. First impressions were how lean and acidic it was. That has since changed. Violet aromas with black currant and blackberry underpinnings. Softer and round on the palate, with a dusty quality right through the center of the tongue. Black fruit and a hint of anise on the fairly lengthy finish. A happy evolution to be sure.
