Beautiful nose of red and black fruit, herbs and asphalt. Super round plush and open on the palate. Loving 09s

complex nose dominated by tomato. Well balanced palate with light to medium tannin and a surprisingly medium acidity level (for a hot vintage); no heat or oak noticed. Overall impression is balanced and savory rather than sweet. Lacking spine on the finish.

Understated (or underwhelming) but gave a good account of itself when drank side-by-side with other wines. Creamy tannins.

Drinking nicely, definitely benefits from some time in decanter. Rich on the nose with leather, tobacco and cedar. Big upfront tannins that are still heavy, with long finish. Lower fruit on the palate than expected, will likely come forward with age.

Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of Sumatra Coffee, plum, fig, mocha, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, very tasty today, needs two years to improve and maybe merit two more points, long, long, flavorful finish.

The nose was aged-Bordeaux, with mixed aromas of black fruits, ripe tropical fruit, cream, violet, lavender, oak, tobacco, pepper, lots more. Quite bright on the palate with red berries and cola, with the same flavours on the moderate finish. Soft tannins, drinks well, easy to drink a bottle but a bit more depth would have gone a long way here.

Really really floral note with roses and violets as well as blueberry. Palate is bright but the lack of depth hurts it overall. At the moment it is pretty but not all that interesting.

Dark garnet colour with the floral nose of Margeaux. Medium-full body with plumbs, espresso, and dark chocolate. Tannins are grippy, but there is balance here. Finish is a good length, and keeps you thinking.

This wine should hit its stride with a bit more bottle age.

Already open and serving up its tobacco, earth, cherry and wild strawberry charms, the wine has a softness to the tannins on the palate. ,The end is focused on its fresh, bright and almost, crisp, cassis and cranberry finish.

The last of my 01s and the best, this is an excellent example of Du Tertre. The 00 has greater depth and body, so will overhaul the 01 in the future, but for now this is actually drinking better. It has developed notes of red cherry on the nose and palate, but the most noticeable change is the elegance, much more pronounced than before. Of course this also denotes the start of the decline and there are faint signs of it already, but it should still remain excellent for another two or three years. Highly recommended.

Vegetal and herbal nose with hints of dark fruit and balsamic vinegar. In the mouth it is very acidic. Definitely a food wine; a wine to pair with something earthy and herbal like a bean stew. On the descent in terms of drinkability, but for people who like European-style wines with less ripe fruit and higher acidity, this wine should be drinkable for several years.

I drank this next to the 2009 du Tetre. I strongly preferred the 2009. The 1996 is a completely different wine--leaner, more acidic, more rustic. This is certainly due in large part to the age, but I think it's probably due to the vintage as well.

Let me be a little more clear: If you buy wines simply for pleasure and you're considering whether to buy this from K&L, the answer is no.

Soft and supple black cherry with floral overtones and notes of licorice, tar, and incense. I think the wine is drinking well now and would not expect it to improve much if at all. I do not think that it is tight; I don't discern any unexpressed weight. The tannins are hardly noticeable and there is relatively low acidity. 90.

Two days later (half-empty bottle vacu-vin'ed). The tar is even more pronounced. I now notice menthol/eucalyptus notes and a black-tea finish with soft tannins. I really like this wine. 91.

Drank with a bone-in filet at Old Homestead in Las Vegas. Excellent pairing. This bottle seemed a bit less layered, but more red fruit showing through. Also noted violet and tobacco. Still drinking well.

Nice and elegant 5th growth. Clear ruby color with narrow brown rim. Flower and red fruit bouquet after 1 hour of bottle breathing. 2nd nose of little earthy and plume in the 2nd hour. Silky tannin. balance acidity and fruitiness. medium finish. Already at peak window and going down.

Color: medium-deep ruby core -> diffuse violet/ruby rim. Bouquet of redcurrants, anisette, a touch of tobacco and cassis. Red fruited, singed cherry palate with decent acidity and soft tannins. This has a pretty plush mouthfeel but not a lot of ooomph in the midpalate. Finish is on the short side of medium-long. A solid, certainly competently made wine but it's just a bit simple in the end.

Brick color. Very much alive. Decent acidity still; 12% alcohol. Initially somewhat dumb but opened with 30-45+ minute decant. Soft, lightly fragrant, balanced feel; held up well with food. Pleasant but not remarkable. Not to hold further; drink up. (originally $12.99!)

This is definitely coming together now, still has the fruit and acidity, but the tannins have mellowed and there is a bit more cigar box in there. Drinking very nicely, but will continue to evolve.

Dark purple/black to rim. Cassis, iodine, fresh-cut brush and a creamy/lactic note on the nose. Plus a distinct hit of buttered popcorn (diacetyl?) that I usually associate with buttery chards, it recedes but never quite disappears over time. Medium body, lush creamy/velvety mouthfeel, ripe fruit with nice fresh balancing acid, not much tannin, medium finish. Not sure if this is really built for the long haul but I'm notoriously bad at predicting that. Excellent now, I'll happily drink it until (if?) it shuts down, and save a few for the 10-15 year mark and beyond.

I live a 13 hour flight from my wine cellar, on my recent trip home, this wine made me the happiest. It was't the "best" wine I had, nor the most expensive. But it exceeded my expectations plenty. 30 minutes in a decanter and drank over 90 minutes. Tannins still present but softened and now quite gentle, great acidity that keeps it so fresh and balanced. Nice use of oak, that was accompanying tasty plush medium bodied red fruit and floral notes. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.

Showing better from bottle than from barrel (which makes sense, given that I seemed to be in a minority when judging it from barrel), the 2010 du Tertre has a nice dark plum/garnet color, a slightly more evolved style than most Margaux, hints of cedar, licorice, black olive and black currant fruit with some flowers and subtle smoky wood in the background. Medium to full-bodied, round, generous and ripe, the words “sexy” and “opulent” come to mind when smelling and tasting this beautiful Margaux. Drink it over the next 15 or more years.

Good color but not super deep and the nose is quite developed. In the mouth it is quite accessible with hints of tobacco and stew, nice acid and tannin, with a slight bitter note in the end. Complex and developed this is the more herbaceous style of Bordeaux. Lovely.

Fairly dark core still with some discolouration around the rim. Double-decanted and consumed over 2.5 hours. Open nose with sweet fruit (cassis, red berries, cherries) but no signs of over-ripeness. Lots of smoke, tobacco, earth, graphite, too. On the palate quite sweet at first, then finding its balance with good acidity and soft tannins. Good depth. Slightly drying towards the finish, but overall really impressive for 2003. Drink now/soon. 91-93
