Fennel and mint on the nose, black fruit and coffee notes when tasted. A huge wine, as you must expect, but not an overwhelming fruit bomb.

Nose of dark fruits, cedar, some tobacco.
Right into the mouth there's something weird and off putting.
Is this sweet? Just too much fruit and chocolate, with the jam being a tad too ripe. Hard work...

Tasty with pepper and herbs. Long, but not too complex finish. Nice buy at the discounted price, but way overpriced at full cost.

Last bottle. Spices, charcoal, a bit rustic and finishes a bit harsh. Not as good as previous bottle but drinkable.

1st day: Bombastic blueberry fruit, so hot it stings the lips. Do not pop n' pour like I did, dear reader! 3rd day: now this is more like it.
Blueberry and pomegranite, heat gone, a little minerality making an appearance. Finish has smoothed out. Remains more cocktail than food wine.

What a wonderful surprise. right out of the bottle this bold, deep wine was smooth! The firm but subtle licorice flavor was the type of sweetness only a master chef could have designed. Drank it as a stand alone and spent all afternoon lounging in it. 20 or so minutes after uncorking it there was yet a higher gear of smoothness.

Paired this wine with lamb burgers. It has leather and blueberry notes that stand out. I would say it was at its peak now. Cork showed the beginnings of some bleeding.

I am a huge fan of Clarendon Hills, but this was my first disappointment. Wine was candy sweet - no tannins left. Past peak I am guessing, so my fault for jumping at an ebay offer. The 07 and 09 are so different (they have character, and some depth even if it is at the bottom of the great Clarendon lineup) and in my opinion much better wines at this point in time. Regret buying (several bottles of) it.

Thick and evolved, this wine has definitely traded its inky, strong muscular body for one of fat and intellect. Its still broodingly thick, with evident brown tinge underneath it. I have cellared this bottle since release and the reward was evident it its vigor after over a decade...The flavor profile was one of dark fruit, damp earth, roasted coffee beans, beef blood and savory spice. I would think that this can be enjoyable for 3 years, but me think its on the other side of peak now. Just remember, it will be truly tiring to tackle a full bottle of this concentrate with less than 3 people, so share it :-)

Raymond's Bachelor Party (Royal Plaza on Scotts): Tasted blind. Pop and poured.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted chestnuts, cinnamon spice, blackberry, black cherries, and dark red plum with more air. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of cassis, licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, milk chocolate, blackberries, black cherries, dark red plums, peppery spice. Long finish.
Very good quality. Clearly New World style. Hedonistic flavour profile. Adolescent age now, this will develop nicely and be even better in about 3-4 years' time.

Very dark in color and still quite young looking. Attractive aromas of crushed berries, vanilla, and spice on the nose. This is full-bodied and very rich. Bursting with luscious plum and boysenberry fruit. Shows phenomenal depth and intensity on the mid-palate. Finishes very long, with notes of spice, licorice and mineral - but is just a bit sweet and oaky. The flavor profile here has 'Aussie Cab' written all over it. Delicious and very nicely crafted, though perhaps slightly over done. Should improve with a couple of years in the cellar, once the oak better integrates and the fruit loses some of its sweetness.

A private tasting and dinner at a friend's (Amsterdam): Crushed raspberries, explosive, sweet, rich, youthful colour, excellent balance, recently polished teak, extremely seductive, 100% new oak perfectly integrated, hint of overripeness, raisins, bright acidity, slightly tough tannins, a powerhouse, long. Over the top but really amazing in its way. Will last.
