Surprisingly not over the hill - old, sure, but still fruity and smooth. Not bad.

Deep ruby. Dense, dark brooding. Violet, tobacco, dark ripe fruit, cedar, mint. Grippy tannins, great balance and length. This is still on the accent. (93 Excellent wine)

Elegant, loads of black pepper and brambly fruit, a dead ringer for a very good Cote Rotie in the style that is rarely made these days. It fills out with air, gaining complexity. Stunning wine.

Citrus zest, licorice, black pepper ripe plum on a bed of coarse but open knit tannins. Little bit short, lacking some mid palate weight. Not sure of longevity here...

Tasted alongside 2007 Cape Mentelle Shiraz, 2007 Tatiarra Cambrian Shiraz.

Big dark fruit, mild pepper, light tannic finish. This is likely at its prime, drink up. Starting to get slight warmth.

Very pale and bright
Muted nose of lime cordial fresh cut pear
Palate follows with lime fruit and fresh acidity, dry with a touch of pith - refreshing and balanced even at this early stage.
Finish is long
Not giving away all it's secrets tonight - time will tell
Very good 94+

Excellent and in early maturity. Very smooth and balanced with a spicy and warm finish. Very toasted oak complements the blackberry fruit. Medium body , clean, and delicious with dark flavours. Burnt sugar nuance. Tough to pick blind, this is new world in style, but I'm not sure I would guess Australia. Very good to outstanding, in an understated way.

Developing complexity. Has a nice touch of sweetness on the palate. On the nose, still a waft of lime although not as overt as it was on release.

Deep purple crimson apperance
Frangrant and complex nose of fresh raspberry earthiness red currents white pepper whisp of smoke.
Palate is elegant and savoury, great complexity here as well, balanced between red fruits, plums, wild forest berries and deep spice woodiness, acid and fine tannins well present assuring longevity.
Long plus ethereal finish, finesse.

Toast, honey, orange and spice aromas. The acidity is still fresh and vibrant on the palate. Medium length and should continue to develop over the next 5 years.

Classic Riesling nose with citrussy aromas. Med intensity.

Lime and citrus flavours. Good acidity. Dry but just a hint of residual sugar. Good length with a touch of almond. Delicious.

{screwcap, 12%} Restrained, steely and smoky. Medium acid, fairly low-key; dry and dusty on the finish. Light/medium-bodied with a medium length finish; an attractive wine nearer to white Bdx than many Margaret River examples of the blend, for example (aside from the lack of oak common to the Oz examples). Still, one to drink up young, as the back label advises.

There are some wines which have an X-factor - that point of difference that sets them apart from the others. This is one of those wines. It's about a balanced combination of flavour, acid, tannin, length, etc, as well as outstanding fruit - blackberry, cherry, pepper, tar, chocolate, pan juices - and spicy oak.

I've had a number of Canberra-based shiraz from this and the 2009 vintage and this is leaps and bounds ahead.

I had this a few years ago and wasn't as impressed but this has aged beautifully. In fact, it was all still a bit tight and took about an hour to really express itself, so don't rush into it - but if you do, give it a good decant.

Tasted at the cellar door this wine was clean and moderately crisp. Less lemon than I was expecting but enjoyable nonetheless.

Would work exceptionally well with seafood and has reasonable cellar potential.

Tasted at the cellar door, this wine has a slightly sweet nose with fine tannins and lots of pepper on the palate.

Medium body (at best) and will age exceptionally well - if only I can wait!

At $90 a bottle (at the cellar door and $100 at DM's) it's pricy proposition and def a special treat. This and the Hilltops are my favourite cool climate Shiraz's (from this producer) and although the Hilltops doesn't have the peppery hit of the Shiraz Viognier, it is a beautifully constructed and executed wine (and a bargain at $28).

Amazing smoky bouquet. Fine tannins and big plum finish. Full-med body and perfectly balanced oak and alcohol content.

Tasted at the cellar door this is a beautiful and high quality wine that is by far the best cool climate Shiraz (from this producer) I've ever had (especially so young!)

Wait 10 years to be rewarded (and looking forward to opening the 2007 I've laid down in the cellar)!

Btw this is far better than Langi Cliff Edge Shiraz (which has way too much berry flavour for my liking).

Pure, intense blackberry juice. Some incense aromas. Full bodied, sandy tannins, little to no secondary development despite 6 years of age. Day two brings a little more nuance. Less fruit rich, more cigar ash. Much better. Overall impressions: More Barossa than Canberra. Lacks finesse, doesn't fit in the cool climate shiraz mould. Hoping the 09 SV is not in the same style.
