Fruit driven nose with a little spice. Chocolate full flavour fills the mouth. Interesting Bordeaux blend

Blackberry, black pepper initially overwhelm, but more mature flavours are there too, including mushroom, olive, and salty chocolate. Nice supple tannins and a long finish show this wine to be well-crafted and worthy.

Mini Verticals - Tasted Blind: Raspberry, spice, violet and some blackberry. Mild palate, doesn't overdo the fruit power but still has some good weight. Seems well balanced and while it is ticking along nicely, a couple more years will be of benefit.

Screw cap bottle. Decanted and then enjoyed over six hours. After one hour the dominant element was not quite ripe raspberry, also cherry, plum, pepper, florals. Elegant. Super super fine tannin. Perfectly balanced. Hour after hour this built in presence and power and intensity and length, shifting to become more savoury. My final glass smells and tastes wonderfully of meat juices, liquorice, pepper, cigar box, baking spices, sweet core of fruit in the background. Moral of the story is, if you are waiting to drink a bottle of this, it shows as an outstanding wine right now if given a lot of air, but geez I'd be tempted to wait and wait, as this is on the way to becoming something very special.

Decanted 3+ hours. Dusty red currants with noticeable oak spice on the nose. The palate is surprisingly soft with a velvet mouthfeel. Plush red fruits, obvious viognier influence with apricot kernels. Decent length. An enjoyable cool climate shiraz, very much in the Clonakilla style.

91-92.

lovely color, clearly showing that this is a cool climate, medium-bodies wine.
Nose is complex with red berries, spices and floral notes.
Palate one-ups the nose, wow. Lovely rasberry and cherry notes plus more flowers and spices.
Surprisingly accessible at this young age, will surely age in a lovely way.

[Qantas' First lounge, from decanter]: elegant, seamless, spicy syrah with plush dark-red fruit and some sandalwood notes towards the finish. The Australian critics giving this 98 points are mad though - this is nowhere near the complexity of a good Clape, a good Gonon or (if you want a Cote-Rotie comparison) Guigal's "Chateau d'Ampuis" bottling, let alone the LaLaLas. Very nice wine, but at $150+, it's a big strech - Clape, Paris and Gonon all release their flagship syrah a lot cheaper and frankly their wine is a lot more interesting.

Pretty poor offering from a maker I really like. Really muted fruit. Unusual, unpleasant pepper notes. Had a 2nd bottle purchased separately to ensure the first wasn't a bad bottle. Unfortunately it was the same result. Put it aside initially and tried on 2nd night and it was slightly better.

Opened a bottle at night to share with my spouse.

Dark purple in colour, with notes of dark berries on the nose. On the palate the wine is ready for drinking, with chewy tannins and a short finish. Ripe berries and crushed spices (anise), with a touch of black pepper. Lacks complexity and power. Fruit is restrained and balanced by some dried herbs.

A pleasant and easy to drink wine made in the cool climate style.

Thai at Dural: Served blind. Pear, lemon, touch of grass and some musky aromas. Palate has nice acidity and the ripeness is well restrained. Not especially recognisable as Viognier but still enjoyable.

A year later from the first bottle and this has become a great wine. Was chosen wine of the night at dinner. Silky smooth tannins, core of dark fruits, perfumed nose. Tasted so much more youthful than its 11 years.

Screw cap. Decanted 2 hours. Fine sediment. Lovely wine - layered aromatics of red and black fruits, florals, spices. Palate is so harmonious and fine with savoury nuances and seamless integration. Drinking really well now but no rush either.

10 year Tasting of 2005 Vintage (Bronte, Sydney): medium-pale colour.
pure clean nose, red berries and lightly spiced.
an elegant wine, beautiful structure, Burgundian. plums, raspberries, with violet and ink undertones. well integrated, no noticeable oak, finishes with soft refined tannins and well matched acidity. drinking really well. not a blockbuster but in a very good way. more hermitage than cote rotie, but very un-Australian!

Fresh, juicy, nice acidity. Not as structured as the 2013 but still very good, drink this now while leaving the '13's in the cellar.
