NOSE: very fruity with lots of peaty oak; some cherry licorice.

BODY: some medium-fine particulate matter present; dark garnet color of medium-deep depth; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: oaky; strong alcohol taste and sensation --- this is labeled at 14.5%, but it's probably closer to 40% abv --- hits like a shot of vodka, and tastes like a cheap blended whisky; low acid; not much tannin; this is one seriously one of the most disgusting non-flawed wines I've ever had: I might actually score this higher as a whisky than I do as a wine, if I were tasting blind; absolutely vile stuff. I feel like my score is too high on this one. Clearly past whatever peak it may have had.

Big and ripe. Not as hot as I remember but hey, I just did 18 samples. Vodka probably would go down smooth right now. You do feel it though.

Harmonious and balanced wine. Spicy, licorice and smoke on the palate. Extracted and succulent, near maturity with sharp acidity and gentle tannins. Great aromatic intensity, with oak only a minor component. Profundity of flavor and depth, and awesomely enjoyable wine.

Starts off fruity, then the spice starts to kick in. It finishes off with medium tannins completing the enjoyable taste.

Nose of raspberry, leather, camphor, with hints of tobacco. On the palate, still rich with red fruits, leather, tobacco, and hints of herbs. Still has a wonderful finish. Wish I had more, this will make very nice old bones.

we had a vast assortment of great dinner wines at the CT Texas offline from Janasse VV that I brought to pair with an assortment of Texas BBQed meats. The Priorat really held its own and provided more insight into how good Spanish wines can hold up with smoky meats. Lower ABV than many a Priorat but the blackberry and kirsch flavors along with some enjoyable greener notes of smoked drying tobacco leaf. Think Lucky Strike before its toasted a lot and rolled into filter less smokes. Some nice herbs de Provence and other peppery grilling spices. Creamy compared to Southern Rhone reds. Enjoyable finish.

Wines With A View (Capitol Grille Tasting Event) (The Spire): Great QPR on this one. Was right up there with wines double the price that were tasted next to it. I got marionberry jam, black currant, Old Spice body wash, and Grandpa’s aftershave on the nose. Loaded with minerals and extracted fruit. Grape fruit leathers, salt, and sage undertones. Dynamic tannins. Lovely integration of earth and fruit.

Old note - Earth, stone, wild fruit, fig, forest floor? Beautiful on the palate. Tastes different than it smells. Port like on the palate. Tinge of sweet fruit. Dark ruby red, herbs, dried flowers. Mind blowingly complex. Deserves the hype for sure. Do different, wild blueberry, black cherry. Goes on FOREVER.

Dark ruby red colour, wonderful intense nose. Powerful musculine wine, black current fruit, well structure and solid finish. The wine seems still young and it opened up after 5 hours, and goes really well with steak.

Beautiful, rich wine. Opened about 5 hours before, decanted about an hour before. Needed that time to open. Closed and a bit funky when first opened, but really opened up and came together with time. The wine still has plenty of time ahead of it based on this bottle.

Much too young but already notable for marionberry, boysenberry, and black currant. Some light spice on the nose as well with earth undertones to the palate. Will never be a blockbuster but should improve somewhat with time and an absolute bargain for the quality level.

Will this ever come around? I opened this bottle two days ago, and it was super tightly wound, fiercely tannic, and was just approachable alongside a big fat steak. I didn't drink much of it, but went back to it tonight (48 hours later), decanted it, left it for an hour or two, then filtered out the sediment and poured back into the bottle, and decanted again using an aerator, and finally drank it with another big fat steak. (Yeah, I love steak.) The wine finally started to show some sweetness and charm. It still had a massive tannin and mineral backbone, but now there was enough dark cherry and plum fruit shining through to make it a quite enjoyable wine. This stuff still needs cellaring and/or extended decanting.

Laurel 2010 vs Barbera Conterno Fantino 2013

In the nose, menthol, dark berries, lavender and i also find a little nice oak, vanilla in the background, smells fantastic.
Taste is smoth and low to medium acid, quit approchable, red berries, strawberrie with nice length.
Can be mistaken as nebbiolo if it wasen't for the dark color, a really nice wine.

Blowout BYO (Cambridge, MA): I’m a fool for Clos Erasmus and this is my second favorite vintage after the 04. I have never been even slightly disappointed by a bottle of either vintage. Red fruits, fresh flowers, sandalwood, sweet tannins, ash and edgy minerals bursting at the seams with an incredible vibrancy yet restrained power. Really wakes you up.

Smells of Chinese five spice powder. Smells Italian notes Nate. Roses and rich fruit, lots of tannins on the palate. Actually, pretty classy. Just opened.

Q1 Tasting - Spanish wines (The Apartment): Wine #1: One of my favorite wines of the night and for the price the value is amazing (we got it for $52, but seems like you can find it for less these days). Opened and decanted ~2.5 hours before consumption which I suspect helped a lot. The wine was very soft. Get some floral and plum flavors. A bit of earth, lots of spice. Really easy to drink and just delicious.

Tasting pour at Winestore in Raleigh on their machine. It was a little too warm, but had great extraction, wonderful raspberry and cherry flavors and had likely been on the machine long enough to open up some. Great juice !

A big bold, but also fruity and very pleasant wine. Lots of rounded tannins and lots of fruit to counter it. Although pleasant, it is way to early to drink it now.

Raspberry, electric, licorice, superripe but bolstered with intense acidity and mineral sense. Silky texture with zip from the crackling acid. Ample sediment, I think this is drinking very well now.
