6/27/2009 - chrwhite wrote: 89 pointsEnjoyed this with my extended family. A fiery garnet in the glass. A bountiful nose of chocolate, berries, ripe strawberry, with a smokiness that came through. The taste was pure strawberry. But think ripe, sweet strawberries as opposed to tart. Very smooth mouthfeel. Elegant. The tannins come into play on the back of the palate. The finish was tart red fruit, with about a minute length. This is CA take on a Bordeaux blend, and I thought the Merlot characteristics really shine on this wine. I was very pleased with this, and look forward to drinking it again. |

Started off better but just could not get past the perfumey taste. Some Pinots have a very distinctive perfumy quality to them which we enjoy immensely; but it just does not work with this wine. Gave it an 87 because it was interesting - would not repurchase even at the terrific $9 price. |

4/22/2009 - viejo322 wrote: NRInky dark purple, glass-staining with notes of blackberry, cassis and dried fruit. Long finish on the sweet side. Mouth feel is very viscous almost syrupy but there is adequate acid to balance. The aromas immediately after decanting are intense blackberry a noticable shift in intensity since the last opening of this wine about 9 months ago. After three hours decanted the tannins softened to pleasurable levels. Has some more time to age but it has integrated immensely since summer 08. |

4/20/2009 - pifcho wrote: 86 pointsRather disappointing as I clearly remember rating the last bottle 91-92 in my head about a year ago. I think this might be a little over the hill as it was a little flabby and too juicy. The fruit seems to be disappearing and the oak is more pronounced... Still enough fruit left to make it an OK drink, but not nearly as good as it was before. Drink up. |

A very big wine with dark garnet color, deep aromas, black fruity flavors to burn, and a peppery finish and aftertaste. I can't name the taste that's different, but it's like a great Cabernet but more fruity, I think. |
