3/20/2024 - Jjyu001 Likes this wine: 92 pointsGideon saw my last note and graciously offered to send me another replacement bottle. I let the wine settle for two month, breath in the bottle for few hours after opening. It really redeemed itself this time around. With a thin body, flavors released gradually over a two hour lunch. Faint fruit, high acidity, light smoke, more flavors seemed coming out as the bottle finished. There is a fine line between good or bad for this bottle, luckily it landed on the good side. A delicate treat. |

2/5/2024 - RPHC Likes this wine: 89 pointsBottle #1376 of 1512 produced. Very open and expressive aromas of violets, roses, earthiness, mild funk, and berry fruit. Palate mirrors, but is savory and was disappointing compared to the nose, punctuated by higher then expected tannins and acidity, which was distracting. Medium body. Medium finish. At the end of the day, I feel that this wine begs to be paired with food. *This wine is classified as Sierra Foothills AVA, which is one of the largest AVAs in the country with 2.6 million acres spanning many counties in California, but the fruit in the wine comes from a very specific site: Home Vineyard. This is a miniscule 2.5 acres in Yuba County, northeast of Napa, consisting of 4500 vines. *Clos Saron was founded by farmers/producers Gideon Beinstock and Saron Rice in 1999, and their Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is generally considered their flagship. 1/21/2024 - Jjyu001 Does not like this wine: NRMagnum. High acidity low tanin, flat, this wine is done. Gideon shipped it in my first library membership 12/23. He shouldn’t have shipped this wine. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

11/29/2023 - Wicker Parker Likes this wine: NRThis is unexpectedly reminding me of AR.PE.PE's Rosso di Valtellina. Not in its (slightly volatile) aromatics or flavor profile – the White Field Red is certainly darker fruited, it is mostly Syrah after all – but in texture and mouthfeel. I wasn't expecting a wine this fine boned that also carries the darker tones - Worcestershire, five spice, fresh-picked blackberry – so lightly as well as so long. Plenty of tannins, but fine (there's that word again) tannins. Very promising for a long life, I think I'd better wait at least 5 years to open the next bottle, probably longer is a better idea. |

11/12/2023 - TannicBeast Likes this wine: 89 pointsField-blend Syrah, co-fermented with Merlot and Viognier, from a mountain, granite soil vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. Med garnet. Tons of sediment. Med+ aromas of candied red fruit, sweet Asian spices, forest floor.. Developed. Dry but still showing a fair amount of fruit. Med (-) acidity, med (-), resolved tannins and med (+) alcohol (13.6%). Full-bodied, with med+ flavor intensity and length, w/ a very smooth finish. Showing surprisingly well at 19 yrs, but at or past the end of its optimal drinking window. In a blind tasting, I would have guessed S. Rhone Grenache. |

10/10/2023 - stanqwash Likes this wine: 92 pointsStill tight and young, but certainly drinkable now. Nose is classic Syrah but a little dusty. But the palate, despite having some Syrah heft and grip, is all about this bright red cherry acidity. Sounds out if balance on paper but is anything but. Getting hints of some bretty notes but only time will tell where this goes. |

9/20/2023 - Howard-Oakland Likes this wine: NRWasn’t quite sure what to make of it at the first pour. An odd mix of fruit, tanginess, and a distinct quality that didn't seem like wine. It grew on me enough to finish the bottle. When I was with Gideon (the winemaker) this past summer, I tasted and brought home two bottles of 2021. I guess I liked it enough to bring some home. TBD if the 2021 is like the 202. |

8/22/2023 - Vindicator Likes this wine: NRI lied in my previous TN. I only held my other bottle until now. Similar notes. Glad to have gotten a "look what I found" deal on these two. Excellent stuff. It probably is time to drink any remaining, though, soon-ish if not soon. |

7/30/2023 - Eric_Lavoie Likes this wine: 92 pointsExcellent stuff. It shows very little development and instead an intense bouquet of earth, wild fruit, and funk. Soft on the palate, yet focused in flavor with a long and savory finish. A great drink now, but will certainly hold for several more years. The hype of Clos Saron is certainly deserved, this wine is wonderful. |

6/27/2023 - Tubulus wrote: NRLike the other bottles on here, the cork was soaked most of the way up. Drank this double blind next to 1995 Cos which was quite instructive. Nobody guessed a Bordeaux grape/blend for this. There was a hint of VA along with very lifted blueberry-ish fruits, some guesses for Musar or perhaps Rioja, and even for a top beaujolais. It did still have a decent amount of tannins on the back end, but they did not lead to a feeling of clenching austerity (like perhaps the Cos next to it). It had a refreshing and lifted feeling, really delicious, and a nice dinner companion. |

4/3/2023 - sid_loves_wine Likes this wine: flawedI agree with the other notes here, this was tasty and enjoyable for me but clearly extremely funky and uncontrolled, the dirty kind of natural wine, very sour with kombucha notes, barnyard, fermented cherry like a Kriek beer, and surprisingly coarse, harsh tannins for a Pinot Noir, let alone one with 7 years on it. A little bit of cleaner, minerally black cherry fruit eventually emerged on day two, but it was still overwhelmingly sour/bretty. I can tell it's made with love and a hands-off approach, but it didn't really feel like a "wine of place", instead exactly resembling so many other ultra-natural wines I've tried in what SHOULD be entirely different styles. I had originally given this a score but after the comment on my Note, decided to mark it flawed. Simply too much brett and weird dirty tones to give it a proper ranking, even if it was fun in the abstract. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/1/2023 - Charlie Carnes Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was decidedly delicious! It is very dark red in color like red ink. But it is quite lively, with very dark red cherry and tons of soil traits., like earthy soil, granite sand, wet red clay. The wine is tart and spicy, it is very fresh and tasty. It paired perfectly with Flannery aged ribeyes reversed seared. 1077/1092 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

3/8/2023 - Ben Christiansen wrote: NRWe'll, despite the VA there is some dark fruit in there that i enjoy. And a bit starched out on the back of the palate with tannin, but all in, while it may turn out to be flawed, it is indeed super interesting wine. If it harmonizes, it will be a thing. We will see how that texture settles down into itself. |
