5/12/2021 - valecnik Likes this wine: 92 pointsA decadent treat, big and generous, like a boysenberry pie baked in charred oak. Neither syrupy nor cloying, so actually very drinkable and pleasant for a bigger style. Nice acidity. In short, an example of Cypher at its best. |

2/24/2021 - valecnik wrote: 84 pointsAnother wine breaking my never-drink-a-Cypher-wine-past-age-7 rule. Between the serious acid and meaty tannins, there is zero indication that this one is fading. That said, it also isn't particularly tasty. There's a curious savory note that plays a bigger role than it probably should, making the balance odd. Dark fruit smoulders beneath the surface, but its nuance isn't really perceptible until the finish. There's also a bitter edge here that doesn't really fit with the blockbuster, jammy style. The most appealing aspect is probably the smoke that lingers on the finish. Strange juice. |

1/16/2021 - valecnik Likes this wine: 89 pointsMore successful than the last vintage of this wine I had which, at about nine years of age, was petering out. Here the fruit, acid, and verve are very much intact. Nice medium body. Classic Cypher profile, with big, ripe red and blue fruit, cut by a bolt of acidity. Smoldering campfire embers on the finish. Seems a bit shy on depth. |

1/12/2021 - valecnik wrote: 86 pointsHaving concluded that Cypher wines ought not be aged more than seven years, a revisit to the Loco makes a liar out of me. The acid and firm tannins here speak to a bottle that's almost certain to sail on for several more years. The question is whether that time will also tame the bitter edge that juts out on the rear of the palate. Rich with dessicated dark fruits such as prune, and imbued with a deep, oaky smokiness. Rather woody on the finish. The bitterness interrupts the harmony, unfortunately. |

11/21/2020 - valecnik Likes this wine: 90 pointsBig, and loaded with lots of oak, vanilla, and caramel notes. I even get some coconut in there. Smouldering dark berry fruit is sweet and potent. The high acidity is the saving grace, cutting through this monster and electrifying it. Drinks a little better with food than alone, where its sweetness can grow a bit tiresome. Still, another example of Cypher doing what they do best. |

10/5/2020 - valecnik Likes this wine: 90 points"Ethereal" is an apt name for this intriguing wine. The mouthfeel is somewhat plush, somewhat unctuous, but also has a fascinating lightness to it, as if it's floating off the tongue. On the palate the wine is very dry, with chalk and mineral, backed by tangy citrus and medium acidity. Subtle candied pineapple and dried mango emerge on the finish. I've long been a fan of Marsanne and Roussanne, and this blend (which is also 50% Clairette Blanche) is no exception. |

9/30/2020 - valecnik Likes this wine: 88 pointsSmooth, unctuous mouthfeel. Like a bright strawberry slurry, almost syrupy in flavor but not at all cloying. Moderate acid. This is a unique rosé that's very flavorful without feeling heavy. |
