Too much for my taste. Too sweet, almost a port wine! Lacks elegance.

Wow, what a fantastic bordeaux blend. Second of three bottles from my cellar, this one drinking perfectly right now. Beautiful dark colour, rich scents of dark fruits, coffee and spice on the nose. Incredibly lush texture with nicely rounded tannins, fits the ripe, dark fruit like a glove. Not overly oaked, but provides an interesting palate of coffee, vanilla, dark berry fruits, and some spice. A truly fantastic expression of bordeaux-like wine-making from SA.

Large tasting pour at a South African tasting. Dark red. Would be well hidden in the middle of a young Bordeaux tasting. Young tannins, nice , well integrated vanilla, cigar box and tobacco notes. More dark fruit than red fruit. Good structure for aging but very drinkable now.

Fairly intense bouquet with good dark berries and beautiful oaky flavors. On the palate a full bodied wine with red and dark berries, sweet spices, chocolate and a touch of bell pepper. A firm dose of sweetness and also good acidity and round tannin. Good length. Ready now and the next few years.

The wine was dark ruby in colour and threw some sediment. It offered dark fruit, chocolate, cedar, leather, tobacco, spices, cinnamon and vegetal notes on the very cedary nose. On the palate the wine showed sweet dark fruit, black currant, plum, chocolate, cedar, tobacco and spices, with medium to medium-plus acidity, medium-plus tannin, moderate heat from the alcohol and good length. The concentrated, full-bodied wine was reasonably balanced and drank better than the bottle I had about four years ago. Paired well with steak. Drink now through 2020.

Needed a few hours to open up.
Nose is classic Bordeaux. Earthy, dark fruit, cassis, pepper notes.
Palate is dark with cassis, blackberry, pepper, fine grained tannins and a very decently long finish.
Would buy again. Lovely wine

This wine needs a long decant. On opening it smelled like 'merde'. Very funky. And not the good Brett funk. After it was in the glass for 15 min it started to change for the better. In the mouth, varietal characteristics presented themselves but there was an untamed wildness that is fairly typical to South Africa. No way to mistake this for Bordeaux. Medium finish. On Day 2 the wine was markedly improved but the brambly sauvage was still there, underpinning it all.

Black fruit, grassy notes, tobacco, very smokey nose. Well balanced and again that smokey and spicy palate. A bit of heat on the finish. This wine has a lot of personality and very distinct from classic left bank Bordeaux. This really appeals to me. Drinks ok now but should improve with a couple of years storage. 90-92p

The intense bouquet is loaded with dark forest fruits, a firm dose of oak, coffee, toast, chocolate and clove. Same on the palate. Licorice as well, a firm amount of sweetness but also ok fresh acidity. Round tannin. A mouth full of wine. Open for business now and the next few years.

Opened two bottles. The first, while nearing the end of its prime drinking window, was very good - 'no hard edges' one of my companions remarked. The second bottle was corked.

Eye: deep dark garnet with purple rim, long tears in the glass. Nose: SA funk, dark berries, dried fruit, cardamom, vanilla, cinnamon. Palate: juicy, loads of fruit, well balanced, tannins softening yet still has good body, long finish.

INTERESTING bottle of wine. Really. This wine is a 90. Barely. I felt like I could only rate it appropriately after a very weird note that was VERY present on the nose and glass faded away. Which wasn't for about 2.5 hours. I think this wine will top out at 92 or so, but I felt as though I had enough to rate this one appropriately after it opened. The nose was blackberry, green olive, and clove. The palate was a medium+ bodied wine that had a blackberry core, with a green olive note that, at first, was a little obnoxious and kind of limited experiencing the hint of vanilla, shoe leather and smoke that were also here. The opening of the wine was actually quite velvety. Mid-palate was soft, and dominated by a herbal blackberry and grilled meat. The finish showed a little tart berry, a little acidity, and quite a bit tannic. Cork position was good on this bottle, and there was no cork taint. I've got 5 more of these, and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing. Either way, I think this wine needs to figure some things out and is locked out rather tightly, and I look to NOT drink another one until at least 2016!

Saturday Night Double Blind, $40+ (Bin 75): Opaque core with bright rim; cassis, leather, iodine, clay, lots of cigar, gravitas, earth, green pepper, oak but not obtrusive, menthol; cassis, red currant, good structure, young, green pepper; good balance of fruit earth and green pepper together.

Pnp the bouquet showed overripe almost boiled fruits, but with some air that disappeared and the dark forest fruits and oak were more than ok. On the palate ripe dark forest fruits and some red berry fruits as well, a lot of sweetness, but nicely balanced by the acidity. Mild and round tannin. The alcohol shows a bit. I am not as enthusiastic as some, but the wine is more than ok. Would like to try again around 2019 to see what the ageing potential is.

Lunch with Chris and Joey; Non-Blind (Bin 75): Dark wine with bright magenta rim; powerful nose of ripe blue and black fruit, berries, vanilla, green pepper, cedar, and tobacco underneath; palate is caressing with strong yet smooth tannin, and good tart fruit for a fresh finish, like the balance.
