Color was very light. Burnt rubber, sulphur, and durian on the nose. Palate was a bit simple. Acidity of 07 vintage was there but not particularly sharp. Drinking well now.

"1er" Dinner at the American Club to determine which plots belong to a "Grand Cru" status. Finally, a village wine, but from Madame, no less. Medium red, with a touch of cloudiness. The nose on this wine (as always for Leroy) left any other bottle standing on this table in a trail of dust. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. A Leroy has the signature perfume. A Leroy Chambolle would make you go weak in the knees (or mouth). Rich, ripe, elegant, floral, perfumed with rose petals, fresh leather, sandalwood, Arabian spice and dark chocolate. Of course the palate would not keep up, of course it wouldn't. There was good structure, with a nice profile of raspberries, cherries and wild blueberries. Hints of black tea, leather and mocha emerged slowly. Only 600 bottles made, this was a rare treat. And when you think after 13 wines, your palate seemed fatigued, this really stole the show, right at the end. Verdict on Grand Cru worthiness - This VILLAGE, with extended age, might just blow a Musigny away.

2001 Domaine Leroy Richebourg

2001 Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Dinner (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Takashimaya): It is hard to choose between the three truly special bottles of Richebourg in this flight, but if I were pushed, I would probably say the Leroy by a whisker. This was a monumental bottle, representing everything that is best in Madame’s wines. It had a captivating nose that wafted out of the glass in layer after layer of of ripe black cherries and sweeter red berries, herbs and spice, and deep draws of earth. Woah. Like the nose, the palate was deep, rich and thick, yet somehow also absolutely effortless, pure and transparent. The Richebourg muscle was clearly there, but it was so elegant and gentle in the way in inexorable filled the palate with deep flavours of dark cherries and berries, earth and mineral, and wafts of fragrant spice. This was a wine of stunning purity and finesse; hedonistic yet perfectly controlled, with an almost obsessive compulsive sense of perfection and balance – truly special. While drinking well now, I am quite sure this will last until just about forever.

Much better than the last bottle. Very closed on the nose but with deep dark fruit and meaty notes along with subtle spice on the palate. Very stern and somewhat tannic but excellent depth and very youthful. I think this just needs much more time to come out of its shell.

Blind tasted. Dried cherry, cranberry, leaves, forest floor, baking spice, clove, red currant. Moderate plus acidity, everyone nailed this as Burgundy, I said 2009 Pommard.

Would have guessed at least 10 years younger if tasted blind, engaging nose & sumptuous palate, backed by fresh acidity and an alluring finish, a slight rusticity brought an added charm to this wine.

totally and completely shut down on the nose. Only glimpses of red fruit and slight roses on the palate. Meaty and four square. Not exciting at all and I hope just a dumb phase.

Well I was expecting a fruit bomb. While large scaled everything was in great balance. Black fruit with a touch of earth. Fruit dominated the structure so it was a pleasure to drink. If you like big pinot this is a dream. I imagine this could go on and on but also very enjoyable now.

The nose is not showing much Leroy's smell but very fragrant, subtle, beautiful terroir, almost CDLR. Very delicious, full-flavor and complex with the stunnin' thrillin' on its finish.

Grand Cru Aftertaste !!

Interesting nose of dark fruit, burnt rubber and spice. Sweet, red fruit and spice on the palate. Great primary flavor. Touch of green every now and then and but this gave it character. Medium finish.

Serious freshly laid black tar, black fruit and anise on the nose and palate. Typical Leroy spice sprinkled in but that seemed super imposed on an otherwise mediocre base of fruit. Fairly thin and short. Nice...but not that nice...

Outstanding wine. On the nose we got peppermint, jasmine tea, crushed strawberries and soft spices. Absolutely incredible combination. On the palate it had just the right amount of gentle fruit sensations such as strawberries balanced with cinnamon. The wine held up nicely after a few hours in glass as well. Excellent.

As of now, this was the best 04 leroy as the greenness was not overwhelming. On the nose, the leroy stems, flowers, red fruit and grass. Very typical leroy nose. The palate was lacking as it did not have the depth. Drink asap

Dark red in color, fresh red fruit nose with some residual oak, signature Leroy perfume notes but accompanied with herbal greenish notes. Palate is ripe, delicate yet with lots of extracts, all is good except the herbal notes at this stage.

Musky, flowers, sweetness and raspberries on the nose. A typical leroy nose. The style is a bit rustic and earthy, inline with nsg style. Drinking very well now. Decent depth. But the wine started to drop after 90 mins. Drink now.
