Monthly Tasting Group: Brunello's (Rinata, Mpls): Light gold color. this was given an hour of air prior. Drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. AS always, a fine example of Chablis, I can't really say whether the air made a positive difference, but it didn't hurt it either. See previous notes for details, very consistent wine. 91+ to 92pts.

Very giving in its array of flavors: unsweet pineapple, grapefruit, even a hint of tangerine after this had been open for a while. The palate is wide open with plenty of clear fruits and lots of energy. A bit looser than my first bottle last summer, but still plenty of energy and vigor. Drink now to mid term.

simple, layered and long'ish finish with a touch of citrus/honey. What's not to love about an elegant and not overpowered chablis.

Well, a bit disappointed here. This is the first bottle I have opened since purchase, which was a couple 750s and a mag. I found the wine to be a bit flat and duller than I was expecting. There are nuances of marine here, some light salinity too in the finish, and some lemon but the energy seems lacking. I guess I am looking for it to connect with me more, to be say more like the 08, but I have to see the wine as a 10, and maybe it's just going to be a gentler version of Michel Clos.

Book Club (Maro Grill, Laguna Beach): Maybe this is shut down, hopefully if you own it, but it's not a very sophisticated wine as was mentioned in another note, it's light on fruit. The attack and mid palate are hollow. The bottle isn't flawed. There's citrus notes but no real weight behind them. Decent acid and flint or matchstick note at the ending.

This bottle showed some off flavors and aromas for a while after opening, along the lines described by PKNUT. After 40 minutes or so, though, everything settled down except for an assertive swathe of acidity with some minerality showing around the edges - the core of classic Chablis. Chablis Chardonnay fruit flavors were muted, so I imagine the wine can develop in bottle for a while yet, but this core alone is already delicious and bespeaks an excellent wine at near the GC level.

This just gets better and better. After a poxed 2007 Etienne-defaix Chablis VVthis was fresh and as tidal- pool as you could expect of a top class Chablis. Lots of oyster shell and earthy saline notes on the nose and palate. Still lovely freshness on the palate great length with great pure crunchy Chardonnay fruit. Maybe stating to get a bit leesy on the finish but a lovely quintessential Chablis at this stage

This bottle is showing really ripe and bright, with pulpy citrus fruit and flower blossoms, very ripe and bright and energetic. Skipped the second night (Jewel Bako instead) and by the third night, didn't really hold up, diffuse - - which is exactly the same word I used in my last tasting note on this wine, in Sept. 2014.

From half bottle. Mineral, salty, savory, really long finish. Darn I am liking '13. Everyone else seems to be poo-pooing the vintage but I don't taste it in the wines. Or at least not the whites...

Last Minute Dinner (Craftsman, Mpls): Light gold color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. This was quite bright on the nose, showing some flashy white peach and ripe melon that gives way to the more classic citrus, zest aromas that build with the requisite minerality. The palate is lively, with good acidity, green tree fruit, pear, and Jonagold apple that also has plenty of lemon and line with some citrus peel as well, sea shore mineral, and crisp refreshing finish that lingers. Thiis in a very good place and should evolve and at the very least hold for 5-10 years plus.

A lovely bottle of Chablis, perhaps a wee bit fat for my preference from this region, or perhaps just too young. Good mineral slime, stoney flavors, good body and texture. Turns eating into dining. Lacks the ultra-taught, bone dry elegance present in my favorite Chablis bottles. Drink or hold.

Visit to Domaine Louis Michel-2013 and 2012 Wines (Chablis): Wonderful combination of flowers and citrus. Moderate density enlivened by zesty acidity. Lovely balance of fruit and oyster shell. As with all of these wines, great purity. This manages to have significant palatal authority and grip while retaining a sense of lightness. More feminine, finesseful style of Grand Cru, perhaps even a bit lighter than the Montee de Tonnerre. Excellent.

Visit to Domaine Louis Michel-2013 and 2012 Wines (Chablis): The most complete Premier Cru tasted here today with outstanding density, balance, character, and texture. Very close in quality to the Vaudesir which followed it. Not too foreboding to enjoy now (and we did), but at least 5 to 7 years of aging potential.

Very light straw with a crisp green apple, and white stone nose. It is a lighter bodied Chablis, but really is great with a white flaky fish broiled and comes to life. Had a apple + lemony finish of 30+ seconds. I think this will be great over the next 5+ years.
