PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
-nearly opaque dark red with slight brown on edge
-expressive kirsch aromatics and a bit of pepper
-med/med+ acidity, med- weight, med density liqueur-like black cherry reaches into the realm of cough syrup medicinal, finishes with some bitterness and heat
-so very '08 S. Rhone, while this hasn't really developed much in the way of mature flavors I think this is approaching what may be a relatively short peak drinking window as I suspect once the somewhat lean fruit fades the heat will dominate

Chateauneuf du Pape (Bronte, Sydney): dark colour. Soft fragrance of dark berries. Powerful, ripe black berries dominate with just a little spice. Tannins are big still, a little too big. Lacks a bit of balance on the finish but very tasty. It definitely stood out as a potential ringer in this bracket.

Inky red. Red currant jelly, spice, flowers - very pretty! Red currant, over ripe cherries and cream. Followed by heat and sturdy tannin. Full of character!

Some rubber & iodine at first, gummy Grenache fruit that is almost Australian in tone and texture. Soft, carob, charcoal, has more herbal spice as it airs and seems more Chateauneuf-ish. Good.

Sweet bouquet with ripe red and some dark berries, a lot of garrigue, sweet spices and some sweet licorice. The same impressions on the palate. Good acidity and melted tannin. A beautiful and expressive wine which is completely ready now, but there is no extreme hurry. Probably wise to drink it over the next 2 – 3 years.

Dark crimson red. Bold and complex reminiscent of grilling over an outdoor fire. Ripe cherry, red plum, smoke, roast, moss, and firm tannins. Good for many more years. Needs food, needs time open, or can be a bit palate tiring.

Very good wine that needs more time. 2010 was a vintage in general in the Rhone that needs some time to come out of its shell, at least for the better ones. Drank over two nights and it really did not change. The nose has black and red raspberries and spice. Day 2 showed some violets. Nice lush texture. Full bodied. More boysenberry on the palate. Depth but hard to see the bottom. Nice finish. I would hold for a couple more years.

French wines tasting at local retailer: Medium garnet, fairly high acidity, earthy, not your usual big ripe Gigondas, fairly short though.

When 1st sniffed it was that high toned, electric pepper, blood orange incense nose that I love from southern Rhone wines. I could smell wines that this forever. On the palate was a different story though, young and blocky with coffee grounds, melted licorice, raspberry paste, chalk and gravel. Opened up after a few hours to reveal more figs, sage brush and red fruits. This on the very upper end with some of my favorite gigondas. Thanks for sharing Motz!

Fresh, red-fruited, peppery, and mineral-driven bouquet. Restrained and high toned upon opening, it rapidly added weight and tannic structure as it breathed, the last drops imparting an impression of profundity. The wine wore its alcohol quite well. It will likely evolve over the next three to five years and drink well through 2022-2025. It needs a long decant to show its best right now; pnp drinking equates to wasting good wine. The same producer's 2010 Prestige des Hautes Garrigues is even more robust and interesting. 92-94.

First bottle of 12 - and very, very young of course. The lighter, more juicy style of this domaine shines through, and the wine is certainly more elegant and less of a Rhône-heavy-hitter than I remember earlier vintages at there infant stage. It will be interesting to see, what this means for the longevity of this wine.

Not quite as good as other bottles I've had in the past, but still very nice. Dark purple in the glass, with aromas of red berries. No harshness and the alcohol was in balance, but a bit of sweetness (not in a bad way.) Plenty of raspberry and cherry and a nice finish.

A lot of dark fruit. Rough, animal, some spice. Medium body, very present soft dry tannins. Perfect match to a rustic red wine beef stew in late October or a rainy cold May evening as today. 5-11-14-7.

Slow O'd for 2-3 hours and enjoyed over the following 2 hours. I think the best time was after 2 hours of slow O though. That was when the complexity described in Parker's note showed with notes of lead pencil shavings, BBQ smoke and dark berries. This wine had such a cool combo of lush mouth-feel and big tannin.

Later in the evening, the complexity faded to and the wine showed notes of licorice and dark berry liqueur.

On the nose blackberries, meat and alcohol. Taste is blackberries, meat, licorice and some plum. The tannins are quite low and alcohol well hidden. More easy drinking than I personally was expecting.

Quite nice, starting with fresh red fruit, continuing in the taste (recognizable syrah) and a decent aftertaste; suggestion, drink this wine a bit cooled.

My last bottle of 12, and I have loved everyone them, but it was time for this one to go. Served blind for Mr. Pacalet at dinner, he preferred this over Pegau 98 and Papet 98; It is light, Burgundian with just hints of heat showing at the end, but otherwise surely a joy, strawberry-fruit, pinot-like character that shows, why the Burgundians used to come to Gigondas for help. Will keep, but certainly mature now.

Wow! This effort never ceases to amaze me. It is still young with a lot of primary fruit left. A masterpiece. The first impression is a cascade of cool dark mature fruits and sun dried flowers. Then there is the classical thyme, sage and rosemary combined with subtle tones of leather and garrigue(!). The palate is extremely well integrated, fruit, tannins and acidity are all perfectly matched. Tannins are present but certainly more subtle tonight compared to previous tastings. The finish just goes and on and on. It actually lasts for an eternity... A beautiful wine and without doubt the best Gigondas I have ever tasted. This is a true gem.
