Dark color with purple hues and ruby edges. Nose has sweet lilac flowers, petroleum jelly, purple watercolor paint, fresh sappy green leaves, mint, and earthy overtones of meat and tar. Palate is soft and silky, with blackberry, cherry, black pepper, exotic spices, and a mouth-puckering tannic finish. With air it develops a nice powdery texture. This is a medium-bodied wine with lots of underlying complexity that will develop with bottle age. It needs a very long decant right now, at least 12 hours before it shows its best. If you can wait, give it at least 3-5 years. (171 views)

Can it be that the wild and woolly wines of Domaine Tempier have been tamed? Where is the funk, the garrigue, the brambly tannic edge of the Tempier Bandol of memory? Compare this wine to the 1998 Tempier Bandol, or even the 1993, and the 2005 is more forward and supple than these older wines are today, far "cleaner," and thus far less interesting. Is it the 2005 vintage, or just a change in style? I hope not the latter. This is very sound, well made, good quality wine, ripe and immediately appealing. But "sound" wines are a dime a dozen. Domaine Tempier has always been about quirks and character and soul. It was not for the faint of heart. You wouldn't pour it for your California Merlot loving friends. This wine, I shudder at the thought, might suit them just fine. (263 views)

Northern Fanatics Fall Menu: Hazy notes. The 2006 Tempier Rose was a lovely rose, with lots of watermelon being the main feature on the palate to me. Nice long finish, and very dry (B+/A-). (125 views)

Sipped in the driveway while the trick-or-treaters paraded by. Pale cantaloupe color. Still fresh on the nose with melon, strawberry, and cranberry notes. Round palate showing herbs and cantaloupe followed by some cranberry and tart berry notes. Color shows some age, otherwise this is holding steady and has not really improved (as past vintages have). Fine enough. Drink or hold for warmer weather. (267 views)

Basically, same exact notes as last time. Salmon/copper color. Light nose of fresh fruit and breezy floral hints. Simply smells refreshing -- still seems to have a year or two left in it. On the palate, lots of fruit (strawberry, peaches, cherry) but in a restrained fashion, with hints of pepper and a touch of sweetness on the finish, though a bit less than six months ago. Excellent acidity and structure makes this an excellent food wine. Still one of the few roses that deserve some contemplation. As with even the best roses I have ever had, I can only have a couple glasses then I am fatigued. As stated before, I believe that when drinking wine, the most interesting sips should be the last and the first (in that order). This gets the first right, but does not hold interest on the last. Matched with a wild mushroom bisque, this wine paired perfectly, showing damp earth, tree bark, all of the aged Bendo aromas...nicely balanced on the palate, medium weight, balanced acidity, and persistent finish. The wine is in no danger of going over the hill, but I'm not sure it will get any better. A lovely pairing. (66 views)

needs at least 3 hours or more in the decanter; even better on day 2, nose is delicious with lots of provencal herbs, thyme but also dark fruit; at first the acidity strikes but after a few hours the wine tastes sweeter; beautiful and simply delicious. alcohol 15% ,yet hardly noticeable. improved since our last tasting almost 2 years ago, many years of life ahead; needs probably a few more years to develop its full potential, but no hurry as this one will last for a very long time. Mmm, rich cherries, blackcurrants and plum flavours with elements of leather and barnyard funk giving it a rustic, sauvage quality. Tannins quite gentle, very elegant and silky in the mouth with a polished texture and a long earthy finish. (208 views)
