12/22/2023 - JonBarnes1 Likes this wine: NR60% Carignan. Priced like a table wine but serious enough to hold. I’m holding a couple more bottles for much later. Right now it’s what you’d expect from a southern rhone Carignan. Reserved and somewhat saline nose, lithe body, pomegranate-like fruit and acidity, melded with faint smoky notes. I’m not completely sold on Carignane-dominant blends especially when young - to me they lack herbal and spiced aromatics that other southern grapes pick up - but this feels like a typical and tasteful expression of it. |
