Purple color and a bit cloudy. Pleasant nose, although a bit restrained. At first it tasted a bit tired and harsh. After about an hour it evolved into a nicely balanced, mature CNP. The wine is still in a good zone, but might be starting to slide from its peak.

Bright ruby color. Cherry nose. Red and black fruit with medium body on the palate; balanced acidity and fully resolved tannin. Short finish. This was better 5 years ago and won't get better from here. Still an enjoyable wine but time to drink up.

Medium red colour, not quite clear, with some brick at the edge. Nose shows development but also some oxidation notes. Balanced palate with minerality, but not an ideal bottle given previous experience with this wine. 87 p?

Not decanted. The wine has a pale red/garnet hue in the glass with a slight, noticeable haze. The bouquet is moderately intense, dominated by red cherry and leather. The palate is very traditional in style, showing cassis, red cherry, leather and cigar box. There is a gamey, animal character to the wine. It is definitely showing advanced age and just beginning to come down from peak. Acidity is medium and overall the wine is balanced although a bit hot. Definitely best to drink in the next few years before the alcohol overpowers the rest of the components. I really like the moderately long, classic finish.

Started off smellng fairly tired: plummy old fruit. Decantation actually helped the wine, bringing forth the most amazing nose of raspberries. On the palate it was still somewhat plummy but with a sense of freshness,

Chocolate covered blackberries comes to mind at first...lots of plum, a light cola thing....super mellowed tannins. Not much on the nose but mouth feel is nice and soft with a good finish. Prolly the best Vaqueyra I've had but to be honest I don't have them a lot since I feel they need lots of time to be good. A bit left for night two is still solid though the sediment at the end is a bunch. To be expected for 10 yr old bottle of somewhat rustic Rhone origins.

Not even ten months since my last bottle, and the forward fruit that this wine featured in the past has receded considerably. This is now awkward, with the fruit in retreat and the tannins showing very dry. The 15.5% alcohol is also noticeable. I suspect that this wine's best days are in the past, rather than it being in some awkward, funky period from which a mature and complex and better wine will emerge. Back in NYC after Scotland.

Well evolved in terms of colour. On the nose not much fruit, a hint of dried fruit maybe, forest notes, spices, slightly barnyardy at first. On the palate bright acidity, spicy, again not much fruit. Decent length but pretty tart and drying finish. Past its peak based on this bottle - drink up. 86-87

Nice, clear garnet color; on the opening – mild nice nose of strawberries and Herbes de Provence.
Light body, almost watery; very unbalanced palate, too much acidity and too low on tannins and alcohol, a bit harsh aftertaste.
After two hours - less fruits on the nose, little bit improved palate, but overall still very disappointing for 2006 CdP.

Fully mature, lovely sour cherry, silky, wonderfully integrated. The fruit has faded, leaving a bright, leathery wine with notes of a beef-cherry reduction. Not complex nor profound, just lovely, satisfying drinking.

Excellent showing, much better than the bottle I had a couple of months ago. Very expressive nose, with some floral and peppery overtones. Purple color with very little cloudiness and just a modest amount of sediment. Tasted of ripe black fruits with some nice earthiness and minerality, silky and balanced, with a medium long finish. In a peak zone, probably not going to get much better, but should be able to stay in a good spot for a while longer.

Super Tasting 4 of 5; Chris does 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (Chris' House): Double decanted about 2 hours in advance, served blind. Bottled corked.

Second bottle pulled from cellar, popped and poured. Deep garnet in colour with a slight brick. On the nose, this was a touched reduced with a rubbery element noted, this blew off to some degree over time, revealing the underlying kirsch liqueur, baked blackberries, anise and a touch of wood. There is quite a bit of heat on the nose noted, making this rather unpleasant to take in. The palate is similar, with high ripeness and extraction, showing sweet black fruits, licorice, and spice. Finishes moderate and quite hot. Overall, not a pleasant drink and outclassed by a number of wines this evening.

A beautiful bottle of mature CNDP that would have great appeal to Burgundy fans. Gave this a short decant and the aromatic profile was classic old world with a good amount of Garrigue. The texture was silky smooth and the wine had a beautiful lightness to it while at the same time full of flavor and good balance and tension. Almost old Volnay like in character this would be a good ringer to bring to a Burgundy event. Held out well on gas for night 2. impressive especially for the vintage. While i don't see it getting better this will probably drink very well for several more years.

Medium dark ruby. Meaty aromas of wild cherry and pepper. Mostly Grenache, showing cherry, ripe raspberry, plum, pepper, and smoke. Rich and powerful. Holds up well to big flavorful meats.

We have numerous 2000 and 2001 ChdP. This has consistently been one of the Bette, including vs. Beaucastel, Clos des Papes, etc. this was no exception. No sign of brick or tiredness. Great ChdP earthy nose, but not funky, and color still solid. In the mouth, very smooth and perfect balance of dark fruit, earthiness, garrigue. Great finish, and while drinking perfectly, no sign it's headed down. Only two left!

I write this note only to say it is a very nice bottle of wine. I have had since release. A classic chateaunef de pape. This is why you buy a wine and hold. Why do I buy bordeaux!
