No in depth-notes. Good structure, dark fruit, green herbs, pure expression, medium long aftertaste.

Fruit driven wine without depth and layers. Vanilla, sweet fruit and hints of liquorice, coffee and chocolate. Well made blend where you can sense all the ingredients if you concentrate and look beyond the drinkability.

This tasted wonderful on opening, a wine that made me want to take another sip immediately. This was a very pleasant surprise since it is their basic cuvee. Black cherry, kirsch, spice, and a long finish were what I noticed - but mostly sat back and enjoyed without analyzing much.

outstanding...not surprising that an over the top house makes a better, more balanced wine in a less overly ripe vintage...very nice

Decanted about two hours. Muddy purple. Hint of old world nose. Muted dark fruit. Complex and integrated. Over 30 second finish.

COLOR: Deep purple-garnet with medium garnet rim
NOTE: MUST DRINK THIS BETWEEN 60-65 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. Below that temp range you wont get the nuances in the nose. Above that range the alcohol simply dominates the other elements, esp in the mouth and finish. In the zone the nose is like singed pink rose petals (that's a first), garrigue, raspberry liqueur, amarena cherries, anise, cherry pipe tobacco, dark-chocolate-covered candied orange peels (yep). This is one of those amazing Janasse wines. But keep it cool y'all! Mouth has a nice medium-heavy weight, somewhat puckering tannins (that takes a couple points off and may melt away with a few more years in bottle), full of fresh black cherry, pomagranate, red currant jam, cracked black pepper, tobacco and leather. The mouth really strikes me as being more of a Pinot Noir, but just a little more edgy/peppery. The finish is just lovely at 30+ seconds, but still quite tannic like the mouth, and I get a lot more Zinfandel-like brambly black and red berry fruit along with the tobacco.

It's a lovely wine that will probably improve a couple points with a couple more years, though it drinks well now with a 6-10 hour decant. Just be sure to keep it at the optimal temp range or you won't get the enjoyment you should. This is a much "fussier" VV than Janasse usually puts out.

DECANT: 6-10 hours
GLASS USED: Pinot Noir
TASTE: 9.4+
COST: 110
VALUE: 6.5
TRY AGAIN: now-2025
CORAVIN'D: no

At Babette with YB and JS. Tasted blind. Drank from bottle over 2.5 hours.
Appearance is clear, deep ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of sweet dark red cherries, baking spices, licorice, mix of black and white pepper. Some kind of slight earthiness and mild florality with more air - which on hindsight I think should be referred to as "garrigue". Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, sweet licorice, baking spice, black and white pepper. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was guessing a 2005 CDP for this.
Still young now. This will continue to develop well over the next 6+ years. Lots of potential here. 100% Grenache.

Excellent QPR. Just like a baby CdP. Flowers, eucalyptus, a little licorice. Complex for a sub-$15 wine. Medium body, drinkable. Maybe a but hot on the finish would be my only complaint. Reminds me why I used to drink so much CdR -- and why I should again.

Opened, had a glass, and put the rest in the refrigerator for 36 hours. Impressive upon opening but more relaxed and coherent the next day. Meaty, bloody, Christmas pudding, dark berries, firm tannins that work, sublime acid balance and long finish. This is like Mayweather in a tutu. Excellent.

Young. Very ripe; long finish, spicy.
Improves after a 1.5 - 2 hour decant, but deteriorates in the third hour.
Slightly below expectation in terms of balance and elegance.
Quite powerful; you'd probably like more it if you tend to agree with Parker.
Perhaps time will help. If I had another bottle, I'd hold it another 2-4 years.
Good with lamb (well duh!)

This is flat-out impressive, a real elixir. Faded ruby, rust at the rim, and copious legs. Nose is powerful, with oodles of garrigue, sweet briary fruit and grilled nuts. Even a hint of Madeira. Very smooth, very full-bodied in the mouth, tons of fruit. Less impressive than the nose, but only just by a little. Penetrates to every corner of both nose and mouth. If it has a flaw it is the fact that the high alcohol is noticeable, and not completely integrated into the fruit. It should be interesting to see how this tastes tomorrow, inasmuch as it was basically popped and poured tonight. For now, 4-13-16-8: 91/100. After one day, the alcohol "flaw" is nowhere in evidence and this is pure decadence as a result. So 24 hours later: 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

Solid pull, no infiltration of cork. Bouquet leaped out of the bottle, heady and thick. Taste to me was predominately syrah so I will be surprised if someone indicates primary component is grenache. this flavor is intense without the wine being thick and super extracted, a nice achievement. first set of legs ran like turkeys, then slowed down eventually to a medium slow crawl. Lost some intensity when stored overnight in bottle but still very good. High alcohol too but did not hamper this tasting but got me a nice CdP buzz just the same. There is a dense flavor here; theres have indicated cassis and raspberry. I detect a bitter finish at back of tongue. Was pleased with wine but can't predict years left. Think it will do 5 years easy.

Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Pop and pour. Dark red to rim. Cherries, dark fruits, and a raisiny character on the nose. Plenty of acid but still manages to be cloyingly over-ripe. I'm a fan of modern ripe Chateauneuf but this tastes like a Grenache recioto. Went back after a few hours but still no redeeming qualities. The only bottle that wasn't drained on the night, the last half was poured down the drain. Average at best.

70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre. Bright crimson. Clean, fresh nose. Plum juice and tart cherries. 2011 is a warm vintage, sweetness on the palate, high alcohol, medium plus acidity, medium body, medium finish, high tannin. Jancis said there is something confident about this chateauneuf. Refreshing!
