Aangename geur. Smaak uit balans, hoog in het bitter, alcoholisch. Onplezierige wijn!

Very nice dark fruited CDR. Not particularly complex, but tasty. Medium weight. Enough acid for balance but not enough to suggest a long life.

Opened and enjoyed over 3 hours on night one and enjoyed the last 1 1/2 glasses the next evening after pumping out the air.

I agree with the comments by Christoffer78 but mine showed notes of slate intermixed in there and didn't show as elegant as he mentioned. My bottle took a while to come together and seemed at its best the next day or late on day 1. Don't get me wrong, at this stage this wine is really good but not as amazing as the '07 I had last year.

Dark purplish red in color. It has a dusty, chalky, raspberry ganache aroma, that doesn't jump from the glass, but it's in there. In the mouth, it gets a liquored stickiness that finishes with a tight dryness. Its good now if you are still cerebral, otherwise, save it for another day.

Tasted at the "Rhone Wine Dinner" at Bistro Provence, Bethesda.
Sweet nose: Syrah and Mourvedre, Almost an american style of Rhone Wine.
Quite sweet on the palate; very much New World style. did go well with the seared foie gras, though.
That sweet impression stayed on right to the end.

Medium ruby. Nose full of ripe raspberry. Large scaled, alcoholic and porty with some offsetting black licorice. Better than the last bottle but still too hot and overripe in contrast to the generally fresher style of the vintage.

Deep dark purple in color. This is an amazing wine. I have already sucked down half the case I bought, and a), it's not close to ready, and b) why didn't I buy the second case? Moron. On the nose, it has the quintessential CDP nose, with a beautiful roasted quality. In the mouth, there is a beautiful feel to the wine. It coats the palate perfectly, with silky tannins that make you want another sip immediately. The finish has some heat on it, but it doesn't detract from the wine at all. A fabulous wine, and fun to drink now and years from now. This is a long-lived wine.

Deep rich purple in color. Cork almost black. Dark berry jam on nose and palate. Also coffee. Soft tannic structure underneath. Pure pleasure. And, wonderfully balanced. Drinking well right now. Wish I had more.

Delicious, fruit forward, rich CdP, with some complexity, good structure and lovely balance. Drinking beautifully now. Paired fabulously with a rare grilled rib-eye steak. Drink now or over the next five years.

Popper and poured. This is drinking really well right now and I think it's a great representative of what I look for when drinking wines from this region. Ripe brambles and garrigue right out of the gate. Nice finish. Nothing seems over the top right now and everything is in it's place. I thought it paired well with pork butt, Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes. It doesn't pretend to be anything it's not and more than delivers the goods. Wish I had more to drink in the near term.

As stunning as always, the 2009 Chaupin once again delivers one of those magical moments tonight. This wine is one of those which plays more on its elegance than power. At first impression it appears a bit light, but when served to food it develops into a complex and meticulously crafted effort. The nose offers up an abundance of dark mature fruit, Grenache kirsch, thyme, sage, rosemary and wet saddle leather. There is a lot of primary fruit left, but the wine first comes across as a bit muted. It needs a while to open up fully and start singing. The palate is perfectly balanced with no hard edges. As I have written before, ”if velvet ever was liquid this is what it would be like”. The integration is absolutely profound as is the balance. The length on the finish lasts about a minute or more. This wine will most likely evolve into something even more amazing provided you can let any bottles rest in the cellar, which I know is pretty hard. A total stunner!

Nose: There is a real purity and lushness to the nose with black cherries, kirsch liqueur, lavender, hot stones, violets, black fruits, licorice, spices, and some hints of tobacco. There is serious depth with a lot of complexity at this point in time.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with silky tannins. The feel is very sexy and polished with black cherries, kirsch liqueur, lavender, hot stones, loads of licorice, and a good dose of spices on the back end.

Overall: This was decanted for about 3 hours before consuming. This is an absolutely wonderful wine at this nascent stage, and it can certainly improve. It's not necessarily a long-term candidate, but it is one that can provide a lot of joy over the next 15 or so years.

Composed of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. Inky purple with clear ruby edges boasts fragrances of dried wild flowers, spice, and raspberries. Obviously it’s packed with plenty of juicy red fruit, creamy anise, concentrated berry compote, and earthy under tones. The wine lingers with a ridiculous mouth coating finish that candies your mouth for 45 seconds plus. A perfect wine according to Robert Parker and can’t completely disagree.

Very ripe, a little cough-syrupy initially, calms down a little with time. A big CdP, and I'll wait a couple of years on the other bottle though I'm not sure which way it will go.

I only have two bottles of this wine and after reading mchrist's review I thought I'd better open a bottle and see how it's doing. On opening and for the next hour or so this was all bright red cherry fruit roll ups, anise, earth, garrigue, some leather and some raisin and prune undertones with relatively firm and chalky tannins on the longish finish. At about 4 to 6 hours in, the stewed fruit notes became dominant. For me , the aggressive stewed characteristics are a detriment. I think I'll drink my last bottle in the next year or so. I'll rate this wine at 92 based on the first hour or so, but after that it becomes far less enjoyable for me.

Good riddance. Drank the last of my 3 bottles. My only fleeting recollection is "hot fruit stew" - I did not bother finishing the bottle. I feel that this was in the category of over-hyped in a hot vintage and it simply has no longevity. Maybe there's a lot of bottle variation. Maybe my case was cooked, but I have a hard time seeing how anyone could rate the wines I had w/ 90 handles.

Opened, but did not decant for 2 hours before serving with grilled amberjack. Raspberry / cherry / glycerin on the nose. On palate, high acidity / medium / body / very long finish - flavor profile similar to the nose - Went surprisingly well with the fish - very food friendly wine and a pleasure to drink. 92-93 range.

Very nice CNDP - super smooth and full of dark fruit, some vanilla, spice and pepper - but dominated by the fruit. Very silky mouth feel, generous plush finish. A great example of a modern meets classical CNDP.
