Light yellow in the glass; crisp sea/shore scents on the nose.

Dry on the palate, bright acidity, reasonable persistence on the finish, light-bodied - all in, pretty good.

Dinner with Monthly Group at Wild Rocket (Wild Rocket, Singapore): A neat little Muscadet – this was just about the perfect white wine to pair with a seafood dish (in this case a salmon and squid donburi), particularly so on a warm and balmy Singapore evening. The nose showed pleasant notes of sweet apples, lime zest and a nice rocky minerality along with a little grassy, minty hint. Like the nose, the palate had simple but pleasant flavours, with apples and citrus fruits infused with a really nice minerality and a touch of spice as it glided into a long finish. Fresh and lively, yet not with an in your face zippiness that some Muscadets have, this was beautifully poised and balanced and really enjoyable to drink. A nice wine, drinking enjoyably well now, but with the balance to go on for some time yet.

Another great Broids. Although I'm not a huge muscadet fan, this wine grows on me every year. Very nice acidity, lots of lemony, mineraly goodness and nice length.

Note to self: if cork is moldy, don't just punch the Pungo right on through and bring that fungus into the drink.

Met up with John last night for our attempted monthly dinners since he's moved back. We've actually done a decent job of keeping up with them. We started with the 2010 Pepiérè "Quatre". It began a little slowly, all wrapped in on itself and leesy (for obvious reasons). After about 20 minutes it had really opened up and started showing tons of fruit on the nose and a real density to the palate with a classic Pepiérè finish. Is the fruit from granite? It sure seems like it, but I don't know for sure. It continued to evolve, especially as it warmed up to the point where it had a really thrilling nose with lots of density. It was almost to the point where it seemed like it would be really rich on the palate, but on the palate it was still mineral and dry. I bought this blind in 750, 1.5 and 3.0 because Marc. So glad I did.

Salt rocks; brine. A perfect introduction to a study of minerality. Tropical fruit comes in raindrops––flecks rather than a flood.

Good, but it didn't knock my socks off. Very pure, a cleansing style laced with something vaguely chalky, and so easy to drink it should probably be in full-liter bottles. But my favorite Muscadets tend to be more angular and crunchy with that sensation like they just painted the roof of your mouth with stalactites, and this one instead was pretty slick and smooth and creamy.

Last tasted almost 16 months ago. Seems a lot softer and more mature. This time, as last time, aromas of lime, orange peel, lemon, white pepper and minerals; the caramel, I had noticed in some of my prior tasting, was there too. Flavors similar to butterscotch candy, honey, hints of saline, minerals and again some leesy notes. Rich and seemingly more intense fruit than in prior tastings. A creamy texture in the mouth. Good acid and structure for longevity. Paired well with Turbot, fried in butter and wine.

My last bottle and there's no question I wish I had more. Not so pale now. An utterly unusual, though quite pleasant, aroma that calls to my mind something more like rock dust than it does any fruit or flower. Different but good (and I mean different compared to all the other Briords I've had--atypical). The palate is lemony rocks. Still going very strong. Looks like I bought only five bottles of this, which was a bit shortsighted. Very, very good.

When this is good, it is really good: intense, almost viscous, cerebral - more Savennieres than Muscadet, in fact. White fruit upfront (canned peaches), just a hint of oxidation, and a suggestion of sweetness balancing out the acidity. At 10 years of age, I find that the Trois tastes more like an actual Muscadet (more mineral, more yeast, more salinity, and just a bit lighter on its feet), but the Clisson is more interesting overall. Still, I think this should be enjoyed sooner rather than later.

Like dipping a lemon into the ocean and then biting into it. This has nothing like the ripeness or depth or milkiness of Pepiere's more serious sur-lie cuvees. Instead, it's clearly meant for exactly one purpose: washing down oysters. And it works absolutely wonderfully at that.

Very consistent with my last note: crisp, good intensity, beautifully balanced acidity, with deep, yeasty notes providing a counterpoint to the wine's minerality. However, given bottle variation (1 of 3 most recent bottles was oxidized, as were 3 of last 3 bottles of 2005 Granite de Clisson), I would recommend drinking these 2005s soon.

Not the blockbuster that the '12 is, but everything you want from a Briords. A little reductive still, but it blows off to reveal the best QPR white on the planet. As always.

In a really nice place, very drinkable. Very expressive and almost pungent lemon oil, flowers and brine on the nose and carries through to the palate, which also shows the lushness of extended lees aging. Focused, articulate, delicious.

Really special, even if it's not exactly typical. Great complexity on the nose, where the candied lime and dried orange fruit takes a backseat to all the other stuff: lots of ocean spray and rock, ginger/cumin spice, a light herbal/basil green tone, hints of mushroom and earth. Quite rich for muscadet, milky and dense with silky extract from the lees contact, backward and rocky and salty without a lot of fruit, good but not overpowering acid. Reminds me a lot of good Chablis.

This was singing. Showing some age as the acidity has rounded a bit. Lemon curd, slightly nutty and herbal, the flavors changed over time at times more herbal and then becoming more lemon citrus. Served blind most thought this was CdB Burg. In a flight with '04 Droin Clos. Paired with spring vegetables, preserved lemon, potato, vadouvan oil.

Magnum night with the neighbors (Somewhere on E. 4th street): Is there a better value in the wine world? I think not. $25 for a MAG. Light golden in color. The nose has sea air and crushed seashells along with a rocky minerality. light to medium bodied. Refreshing. A nice acidity that doesn't overpower the palate which has slight lemony notes with lots of minerality and a slight salinity. Crisp. Nice finish. Perfect early in the meal.

Un Clos des Briords classique, mais peut-être moins cristallin qu'à l'habitude. La minéralité m’apparait aussi légèrement moins prégnante, mais ça reste tout de même franchement bon. 88-89
