Medium-dark garnet. Ripe nose of red fruit, spices, raspberry with a hint of cake. Rich and lush on the palate but with still acceptable acidity. I think they managed this well given the Californian circumstances in 2003. Good, but not as classy as the 02. Mature. Drink up.

From Magnum. Medium garnet. Expressive nose of red berries, sweet spices, with a hint of earth and wood in the background. Excellent complexity and pinocity. Elegant and aromatic on the palate with very fine structure. My last bottle of this, bought it when it was still on the rise and relatively chap. Alas... another great Burg that has become very expensive. PS: I recently bumped into an old friend to whom I recommended this wine and he bought a few Magnums to store as 2002 was his wedding year. Needless to say, given the price rise he is now fully convinced of my vinous skills. :-)

ROAGNA vs. BORGOGNA: Foglie di pomodoro, sugo, pizzetta all' origano. Il naso è un pò strano e non molto pinot, l' annata fresca lo aiuta, ma il marchio di fabbrica concentrato e materico del Clos de Tart, permane e non gli permette mai uno sviluppo arioso. La bocca è un carroarmato, anche se in pantofole di velluto!
Acidità e frutto da vino di 2 anni, legno dolce ancora sensibile, ma la pregevolezza della fattura e la profondità del finale non mancano di una certa eleganza ( se paragonato ad altre annate).
Non sarà mai un Clos de Lambrays ( come è giusto che sia!)

Not great du Tart vintage but has all the pedigree of a grand cru. Firm structure with finely grained tannins with a lush minerality. Slightly green but not overbearing. Went well with the sushi.

Whoa... Everything that's always been true about this wine was true in this bottle... But better integrated, softer, less sauvage. More later but thus is a wine I'm very glad I have a few more bottles of!

1996 / 1999 / 2001 Burgundy Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Very slightly, but very sadly corked. On the nose, telltale notes of cardboard and a strange whiff of almonds floated amongst more pleasant tones of cherries and blueberries, flowers and earth, and a nice dash of Morey spice. Unfortunately, everything did seem rather muted by the TCA. The palate was slightly less affected, so that it still showed as a nice marriage of power and purity, with an effortless balance glowing through a tremendously deep expression of dark cherries and blueberries and hawflakes, all held in the grip of fine powdery tannins. There was a nice effortlessness and a nice breadth of flavours in the mouth, along with the structure and freshness to last decades. Unfortunately, this felt a little scalped at points and, with that corkiness, I really could not tell if a clean bottle would have been better. Sad.

Medium weight, sappy but awkward combination of fruit and structure at this point. The really good news is that it seems as though wood is not an issue at this point. If the palate resolves and becomes nearly as attractive as the nose, this has a chance to be really excellent with more time in bottle.

Was very excited to try this, and while it is early to drink, it is still really fantastic (decanted for a few hours). So complex and full of ripe berry, currant, caramel, mineral. Long lingering finish. Beautiful wine. 93-94+

dark purple/ruby with no sediment, this wine is mature age 13. Wonderful clean cherry strawberry nose framing a layered complex taste that is round, full and lingers on and on.

If a date, this was a 19 year old lingerie model who wants to become an architect so aesthetics occupy her thoughs all evening.

50 ANNI AIS PIEMONTE (TORINO MUSEO DELL' AUTOMOBILE): Da Magnum. Visciole, prugne e tamarindo.... una seta. Fattura di classe e purezza, ricorda i vini potenti e struggenti di de Vogue.
Bocca piena, profonda e precisa. L' acidità lo rende più leggero di quello che è in realtà. Il tannino è ancora un pochino appesantito dal rovere, ma promette decenni di vitalità. Da attendere 4-5 anni.
Sempre una bella bottiglia

Tasted alongside the 2002. This is a giant monster of a wine. Has real potential and can drink like a big Calif pinot. But leave alone for 1-2 decades to see if something better happens.

The wine was very tight. Nose had mushroom, soy sauce, and wild berries. The palate was restrained with some plums. There was also some volatile acidity. I think the wine is sleeping at the moment. It should improve with time. Too young now.

Pnp, fresh nose of red fruit jump out of the glass, followed by rose petal and a hint of rusty nose. Zappy acid blended with sweet fruit in mouth, tannin is soft but nice grip on follow through. More floral after taste of floral and spicy note. Lovelyvand drinking nicely now.

Medium red ruby. Gorgeous aromas of red berry liqueur, flowers, hints of forest floor and sandalwood. A very silky and refined palate reveals sweet crushed cherries and strawberries, medium acidity, no tannins/aggressive woodsy components, a lovely inner mouth perfume of dried violets and leather on the long finish. Very, very good for a 2000- and this has got better with time. Go figure!
