Really good stuff that opened up nicely after about a hour of air. Lovely old world grenache flavors. Smooth on the finish. Nice vintage to access early.

Drank from magnum. Nice granache flavors with a bit of forest floor. Fruit is up front but not a long finish. Nice for the vintage and an early drinking vintage.

Drinking really nicely right now.
Amazing intensity and lots of barnyard style flavors. Impressive balance and acidity.

Overly bretty and heavy spritz from secondary fermentation that didn't improve after 24 hrs. Worst bottle so far. With the cost of averaging-out the bad bottles this ended up being a pretty poor value.

Loved it. Decanted 1 hour. (ok didn't wait a couple of years). Nose of blackberries and very CNDP. Palate had strawberry, blueberry, mocha and vanilla. Lovely weight and texture. Just starting to drink well. Must wait until 10 years before next bottle (2017). Very nice indeed.

Son Ryan brought this from his cellar to a family celebration dinner. This was tight and a bit closed with the fruits subdued and overtaken by a layer of black tea, tobacco leaf, with hints of creosote over the black berry fruits. This needs bold zesty bar-be-que to offset the tight firm black fruits and non-fruit layer.

Very intense and expressive bouquet with ripe dark fruits, garrigue, asphalt, tar and good bell pepper. On the palate a mouth full of beautiful fruits juice (dark forest fruits and cherries) and spice box. Some pleasant sweetness, beautifully balanced by good acidity and soft tannin. Overall an almost explosive wine which is complex, extremely harmonious, soft and round and has a great length. Completely ready now and the next 4+ years, but no reason to wait any longer.

Popped, breathed in bottle 60 minutes, consumed over next two hours. Needed some air to come together. A lot of good things going on here, but I did not feel this bottle reached the heights of previous bottles and towards the end, it was tasting oxidized. Perhaps a little bottle variation or maybe this wine is finally in decline?

Wineberserkers European Tasting (Zazie's, San Francisco): Funky, but still pure fruit, red fruit, smoky, barbecued meats; palate is full bodied, ripe but balanced fruits, licorice, black fruit; medium length juicy finish. Very nice, but there is heat on the nose and palate that often distracts. Some at the table thought it showed very differently from the same wine tasted a few months ago. 90

Garrigue in the nose with red and dark fruits, spice. Body is well balanced with smooth tannins and long finish. Tasted better into the evening--opened an hour before starting. Stood up well in a field of Beaucastel Autard and Vieux Telegraphe. I love this wine. will drink over the next 5 years.

This is a monster wine, intense and concentrated. For my tasted it is too early to drink these and I will wait at least 3 years before I open another one.

Drank from 500ml (which should be a more common format). While this wine needs a least another five years in the bottle, it is jam packed with potential. Classic nose with a deep rich palate. Right now it's all fruit but other tasty stuff will emerge with time.

"Simple" Midweek Dinner - (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square) (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square): Really good – it bore some of the marks of the hot 2003 vintage, but somehow still came across as a very enjoyable, well-balanced CDP. Decanted for 2 hours before serving, this started with a sunny nose of ripe cherries and blueberries sprinkled with bits spice and bramble and garrigue, then notes of dried earth, stone and little nutty accents. A nicely complex nose. The palate was rich, thick and very textured, with fine, powdery tannins framing gorgeous flavours of ripe red cherries and berries along with more savoury tones of meat and earth. dried herbs and garrigue. Lovely – this had tons of complexity and character in the midst of its ripe 2003 fruit. It was beautifully balanced too, with deeply integrated acidity keeping the wine nicely poised. The vintage character showed up again in the slightly drying finish, but even then, it opened up nicely on the backpalate in time to show mouthcoating notes of sweet red fruit, nicely seasoned with herbs and spices. This still has a long future ahead of it, but it was already showing quite nicely with some time in the decanter. This would be interesting to try again in 3-4 years’ time.

Tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2/5/2015-2/7/2015 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France): From magnum. Riper than the 2012, with red, jammy fruits, a little green pepper, and some funk on the nose. Full bodied, with lush, dark fruit, chewy tannins, and lots of structure on the finish. A bit of brett, too.

Tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2/5/2015-2/7/2015 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France): White pepper, spice, and dark fruit fill the nose. This is dark and dense, with good amounts of fruit (blackberry). Very well structured, still, with present, fine tannins and lots of acidity. Tight, but quite promising.

Tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2/5/2015-2/7/2015 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France): Tank sample. Nose shows lemon, white flowers, and a hint of orange. Rich and round, with amazing finesse and elegance. Primarily lemon, citrus fruit, with great, grippy, acidity.

I revisited this after tasting through all of the reds (and after it had time to open up), and found it even more expressive, with melon and peach coming into the nose. Still beautifully textured, with lush tropical fruits and guava alongside the citrus, all balanced out with great acidity.

Tasted with the 2004. Light ruby. At once, cleaner than the bottle of 2004 and much more developed, secondary aromatics. Leaner and lighter, more tobacco leaf and leather and considerable fading of fruit. Dry, tannic finish. Not very appealing tonight, and the question is whether it is too young or too old. Based on this bottle, I am worried, suspect the latter explanation, and would advise checking in on any stock that you own so that you can draw your own conclusions. Last tasted 5 years ago, when it exhibited more brett but more promise.

Tasted alongside the 2005. Dark ruby. A touch of brett that is under control. In this context, lush, round, and fruity (dark red fruit-cherry and plum) with some tobacco. Really excellent and seemingly less evolved and more primary than the younger wine. Tonight, I preferred it to the more heralded adjacent vintage.

This wine keeps singing of the homeland, and if you can't afford or have time for a trip to the Rhone, just open a bottle of this, here is garrigue, locale, sweet grenache, a roundness and fullness that is pure joy. Will keep, surely, 5+ years, but why wait? (with Pacalet at CP)

PnP. Similar to the bottle I had 6mths ago. Spritzy, bretty, gamey, earthy and a bit of spicy. This wine runs the gamut of flavours and keeps things interesting. Still enough fruit to keep going for a couple more years but really no reason to wait. Tannins are well integrated. Medium minus finish.
