Pretty much at its prime right now. Very nice wine
The wine looks rosy colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle.

Oh well .This was a roll of the dice when I got it. Over the hill, madeirized aromas. Cork was tough to take out. It broke apart while in the neck - a bit moist rather than dried up.
I tried to Adouze the wine over a day but no luck. Not to be. This was done a while ago and nothing could be done to get anything from it.

This wine can be superlative value for the price (around £9): dense, structured and complex. But this vintage is a disappointment: too ripe, too sweet, too soft, too smooth. All the edges, spikiness and rustic interest that are the hallmarks of authentic, characterful, generic CdR have been ironed out. This is too much of a supermarket-friendly crowd pleaser.

A typical although somewhat subdued La Turque nose. The palate has dry dark earth, faint dark fruit, and light tar at first but fades after an hour and becomes somewhat bitter on the backpalate. A challenging vintage that this bottle could not rise above. Drink now, drink within an hour, and with food.

No detailed notes. Extraordinary purity and length. Beef jerky, cured italian salami, and just hours of hedonistic feral qualities that lingered long after the wine itself was gone. The most masculine of any Hermitage I've had from 2000 onwards, with a nonetheless surprisingly soft structure and no heat whatsoever. No sweetness, and I can appreciate the bordeaux-esque qualities noted below, though I almost got a decadent mushroomy/espresso quality that overlapped with some St. Emilion I've had (C. Monbosquet comes to mind).

Worth every penny, and went surprisingly well with grilled king salmon with morels and even better with dark chocolate pecan pie. To be able to drink this on a weekly basis...I can't even imagine where it will be in 10-15 years.

Tasted non blind.

Straw color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Light nose of lychee, pineapple and wet stones. Flavors of yellow pear, papaya and minerals. Bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.

Time has been kind to this wine. Nice classic CDP. Barnyard blew off in about 15 minutes. The bottle was singing after an hour. Still has quite a bit of life in it.

Guigal, Condrieu 2013

La Las Dinner: More masculine and rough around the edges than its sister 1995 La Mouline. Dirtier and earthier than her too. A wonderful, complex cote-rotie that is amongst some of the best rhones I've had -- though that's maybe not saying as much as it might from some others. A great bottle, but feels young (or perhaps a bit shut down at the moment) and could use a few more years in the bottle.

La Las Dinner: Arguably the WOTN. Elegant and feminine. Incredibly approachable right now, as opposed to it's sister 1995 La Landonne which needed some more time in the bottle. In my mind, this wine is everything that a great cote-rotie should be. I was fighting myself on a 99 or 100 score, but ultimately just have a hard time giving anything 100.

Paired with a rare steak and the combination was just dynamite. This wine was drinking pretty much perfectly (although still has a long life ahead I'd guess). Smokey and brambly and just delicious. Probably my WOTD after a pretty impressive line-up (we were at a wine auction before the dinner where we got to try some lovely items including a 1990 Dom Perignon P3).

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/15/2015-5/16/2015 (Chicago, IL): Yes, you can tell that this is a much lighter vintage. Red florals, good lift, and very light-bodied. The palate is similarly light-bodied, and I'd probably drink this sooner than later. A good amount of stems and meat. Lovely stuff; I think Guigal always performs the best in off vintages.

Another exceptional showing. Very ripe and intense dark fruit driven nose, blackberries, rare bacon fat and dark spices. Exceptional concentration, unctuous/almost chewy, ripe sweet black fruit driven palate impression, good acidity and nicely integrated tannins. Still very primary but very promising. If you like the opulent primary fruit, this is perfectly enjoyable. The wine to look for at auction sub $100, if you like the style of La Las. For some folks, so many reasons not to like. It is a hedonistic wine for my palate.

Decant and drink a bit warmer than you normally might

Dried apricot, thyme, touch of pool shed on the nose. Pear, persimmon. Acid is fine. Finish is a bit weak. Overall enjoyable.

If my comments don't connect with the 91 score it's because this didn't evolve much. First sip was just as pleasurable as last. Was excited upon opening and a bit disappointed at the finish. Probably give this 1-3 years.
