Fully mature deep ruby with zero sediment and slight rust color at the rim. Nose of black cherry, strawberry and lemon zest with the subtlest hint of tar. lovely deep tasting and pervasive, long finish.

Okay but not superb. Drink up while the fruit's still there

Drank at Blanco's-unsure if it was his or my bottle but who cares? The wine was stellar. Very fragrant, floral nose, with lots of honeysuckle, lychee and white fruit. Not as full bodied as I would expect from this wine, but certainly no light weight either. Tons of peaches and apricots, offset nicely by a persistently solid acidity level. Lovely minerality and wet stones, great mouth feel to go with the healthy viscosity of this wine. Fab bottle of wine drinking wonderfully at the moment.

The 1991 La Landonne is one of the best Guigal wines I've encountered, with a lovely bouquet (that takes a bit of coaxing) of black fruit, plum, graphite, coco, roasted venison, woodsmoke and oak spice. On the palate the wine is still very youthful, with great intensity and a good deal of fine tannin. The impression is firm and masculine, and it really seems to need another decade.

Six months after first note, this pretty, deep ruby wine continues to impress with its elegance. Cherry and asian spice, some clove, a bit of orange peal on the nose.

spicy, old world, and drinking nicely.

notes after 2 hours air.

nose of leafy red and black cherry, with blackberry following. tangy green herbs, tight black pepper, and rich garrigue. big whiff of smoked meats.

medium. polished texture bright plummy acid, but the structure is fairly integrated. no sharp tannins.

pepper, spice, and garrigue notes overshadow the zesty black fruit on the palate. fruit is mostly plum and mixed cherry. salty charred meat is balanced by a candied ginger note but the black pepper persists throughout.

the oak makes brief appearances with passing aromas of cocoa, vanilla bean, and espresso, but never jumps out of line. furthermore, a clean gravelly minerality adds depth to the nose and palate.

overall this is a well made, well structured syrah that falls just shy of fantastic for the price. call me American, but i would have liked a tad more fruit to fully round out the wealth of savory and spicy notes.

that being said this is a perfect compliment for summertime grilled meats, but maybe not the most amazing QPR.

boerne wine club provence 2015: My blind and the most polarizing wine of the night. Half hated it and others loved it.
I thought it had some nice smoky bacon, blackberry aromas, but a little off balance at this point. Needs time. Our French contingent all thought this was something from California.

Dark purple color. Still a little closed, but opening up slightly with some air. Beautiful aromatics of black currant/cassis, vanilla, smoke, spices plums, leather and some earth. It's full-bodied, powerful and dense with high acidity and high but ripe tannin. Very good length. A still youthful but impressive Ex-Voto from Guigal, it will still need a few years to open up some more aromatically but it has the stuffing to be even better in a few years.

Clean and clear, deep garnet colour and very concentrated. Developing

on the nose it's clean with medium+ intensity and aromas of; Smoke, smoked and cured ham, pepper, blackberries, fig jam, minerals that reminds me of iron and blood. Developing.

On the palate it's dry with medium+ aciddity, medium ripe tannins, medium+ % and high body and flavour intensity. Palata was alot like the nose with smoked and cured ham, hanged meat, pepper, blackberries, timian, smoke, oak. Medium+ lenght

This is a powerfull and very concentrated wine. well balanced but needs some cellartime to show of it's true potential, it's quite raw at this point. Complex but a littlebit onesided, no aromas which suprised me. It's the concentration is what impresses me the most, but i have to admit i prefer the La Turque from 2007 over this one. 93-94p

Golden yellow color. Intense and complex but "cool" notes of peach, apricot, some lemon zest, beeswax, a touch of butter, vanilla smoke, baking spices and some minerality. It's full-bodied but fresh with medium-high acidity providing tension. Excellent length. Somehow I think this will probably be even better with a few more years in bottle but what an excellent Ermitage from this top-notch producer. Wow! (96+)

Served blind; Darker core; white pepper wows, toasty vanilla, elegant, polished, mix of plush red and dark berry, violets, deep and noble; velvety texture on the palate, good acidity, sweet and sour fruit, similar favors as nose, precise, deep, hedonistic though great focus, more air brought out more texture and mineral in an otherwise seamless and silky wine, great balance; hauntingly good, got craving for it again roughly 30 hours after drinking; a baby-sure-but the integration of the oak and overall juiciness makes this a nice drink now.

Bursting w/ white lilly and underlying ripe red and black fruit. As it opens more tar, anise, and chocolate come forward. The palate is structured. The tannins are firm but the fruit an earth really show themselves. The palate confirms the nose and this was true to the other CnP's I've tasted. This wine will drink well over the next five years.

Golden yellow. Expressive nose with ripe aromas of quince, peach, vanilla and some bakery. Full bodied on the palate but fresh, could be Californian Chardonnay but without the butteryness. A RP 100 pointer, this is a big and impressive wine. As more of a Riesling GG drinker, I wonder what dish I would serve this. May be more of a cheese platter during the fall/winter dinner than a summer lunch.

First bottle of Condrieu as I have been experimenting with different Viognier styles. Excellent with good structure. Was expecting a tad more acidity (though rare in Viognier) based on reviews, but still a fine wine which achieved good balance with a little air/time. Fabulous floral bouquet as expected. Palate flush with dry hints of stone fruit (peach and apricot dominant). Great "minerality". Was a bit surprised by the amount of toasted oak at first but did integrate with time. Long finish with great weight. Great choice on a warm summer day though as I rule I like whites that are not as oak driven.

In 2012 the 35 years old vines yielded 39 hectoliter per hectare. The wine is vinified and raised in 100% new oak barrels for 8 months. The result is a Viognier which is a 100% different from the also excellent basic Condrieu of Guigal. In this stage the fume of fireworks and gunpowder, smoke and minerals. Also white and yellow fruits and blossom behind the intense oak impressions. All comes back on the palate together with beautiful citrus acidity and pleasant bitterness. You probably either love it or hate it, but it certainly is an impressive and complex wine. Can age a few years as well.

Its so bad Im furious. it tastes like vanilla pudding at first and then Pisang Ambon cocktail with vanilla cream. I've now had 3 guigals: cote rotie brune, crozes hermitage and this one. Only the crozes hermitage was ok for the price, so Im striking off guigal from "north rhone" list. I'll place my hopes on Clape Cornas now. Im tossing 20E worth of leftover wine in the sink... grrr.

Bought this from winebid.com. Similarly to other Winebid purchases this also seems to have been stored in less than optimal conditions and is thus decisively past its prime.
Seemed overly acidic at first, but it smoothened out after 15 minutes and held up for 90+ minutes.
Decent structure, dying tannins showing just a bit of grip, and an overall plummy mouthfeel.

The 25 years old vines yield 42 hectoliter per hectare in 2012. The wine is raised for 8 months in for 1/3 in new oak barrels and for 2/3 in inox. The result is a wine with a flawless and elegant bouquet with white fruits, litchi, flowers cardamom and fennel. On the palate a very clean wine as well with white fruits, litchi and some grasses. Concentrated but not thick, rather delicate and elegant. A harmonious and refined wine. Drink between now and 2017. 91+

Dark purple. Reserved nose of blackberry, dark fruit with some licorice and earth, needs serious coaxing. On the palate this is quite dense, no peppery Rhone side, ripe and full bodied, lots of tannins. A great wine in the making I am sure but not much pleasure today. Wait till 2020.
