Still dark garnet with little signs of aging. Deep masculine nose with herbs, dark fruit, cedar and a hard to describe density - one could say brooding... Dark plum, blackberry and sage on the palate with medium acidity, ripe tannins and controlled med plus alcohol (i.e it's not hot). Medium length finish with the fruit and herbs continuing on. Still young although showing signs of maturity. Best description I can give is a cross between Napa and Bordeaux. Well done!!

Dark purple in colour. Clean nose of black fruit and spice. Dry, med body, med acidity, smooth tannins, Black currant, baking spice, cedar, and vanilla on palate. Med+ finish. Wine is still very young and will get better with age. But still a great wine.

2009 Fairview Cellars Syrah/Cabernet "Bucket O' Blood"

Okanagan Valley VQA Red Blend more

12/6/2015 - Merrit wrote: 89 points

Enjoyed this over a couple of nights. The nose was a consistent mix of blackberry, blueberry, grape jam, pencil lead, earth and a hint of vodka. In other words, the nose was fruity but a touch hot. The palate was much more balanced: again dominated by blackberry and blueberry, but alongside some juicy plum and cranberry, white pepper, green pepper, pencil lead, clay and forest floor. The blackberry really took over on the second night. Solid fruit, bright acidity and just enough tannin. This tasted like what you'd expect from a pairing of good Syrah and good Cabernet Sauvignon.

It didn't have the incredible mouth-coating quality and long-lasting finish I usually associate with Fairview Cellars. In fact, the finish felt a bit thin. Having recently tasted the 2012, I know that Bucket O' Blood can be a powerhouse. I think this wine might be starting to fade a bit. The bottle said it would be best consumed after December 2013, but December 2015 seems like it be the ideal time to still enjoy this fine winter wine.

This is from a great vintage and I had expectations. I decanted it for an hour and had it after the Quail's Gate Old Vines Foch, with lasagna. The colour was nice and aged looking and the nose was great. Went downhill from there. Just satisfactory in the mouth, but there was no finish. I wish I could say it just didn't have enough air. I wanted it to get better, but....
I have the 2010, so will wait another year or so for that one.

Nice Cab! Soft tannins, moderately complex...but with this very special aroma specific to Fairview Cellars...kind of fruity-floral, very unique aroma. Love it. Can still be cellared for 5-7 years.

Au restaurant, à Whistler Mountain, pas de notes formelles. Carafé. Très bon cabernet de la région de l'Okanagan, accompagnait à merveille le Long bone rib-eye (44 onces à 2.......).

Smells like plum, cherry, rubber tire, pepper and a hint of barbecue potato chip. After a while, the dominant aroma is rubber tire with blue fruit. Tastes like a juicy plum, cut with some chocolate, chilli pepper, a bit of that rubber tire, blueberry and hazelnut. It sounds wacky and out of balance, but it works. The 2009 was much better, but this is well made wine.

This just keeps getting better. Huge nose of black cherry and dark, dark chocolate. Extremely intense cherry and blackberry flavor, with just a touch of forest (canopy, bark and floor). It's so juicy and tasty that the tannins aren't noticeable... at first. But eventually – after the long finish of chocolate, espresso, charcoal and strawberry faded – my tongue and inner cheeks told me there was still some tannin present.

Drank along side 2006 madcap. Both were great, but loved what a little age brought to wine. Need to go buy some of Bills wine and lie them down. Fairview is one of my go to BC Reds.

Light to medium bodied. Red and black berry fruit flavours with the balance leaning towards black fruit. Some minerality. Pleasant finish. Good with food. A nice wine that gives a sense of being real and not manipulated.
