2010 Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero

Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more

Appearance: Clear wine with a Deep Ruby colour.

Nose: Clean nose with a Medium+ intensity. This wine is developing.

Ripe black fruit sings right out of the glass - blackberries, plums, soft anis. Well integrated French oak is a pleasant counterpoint and adds vanilla and sweet nutmeg along with some smoky notes. Tobacco leaf and just a hint of cedarwood from the 10% Cabernet Sauvignon rounds this off nicely.

Palate:
Dry
Medium+ Alcohol
Medium+ acidity
Medium+ tannins
Medium+ intensity
Medium+ body
Long finish

The palate echos the nose and once again the ripe black fruit is quickest off the mark. Along with the oak there is an earthiness to this wine that balances the fruitiness pleasantly. A crisp and long finish - very pleasant and rounded Ribera del Duero.

Excellent quality Ribera del Duero. This wine could be drunk now or could definitely gain some depth and smoothness from bottle ageing. Premium priced at around 22-25 euros a bottle and absolutely worth it. This wine is a very good example of just how elegant and composed Ribera del Duero can be without paying huge amounts for the top names.

Dark purple color turning violet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose shows ripe dark berries, attractive scorched earth, vanilla, mild toasted oak, and roasted herbs. The palate is full-bodied; medium acidity; fleshy texture. Flavors of dark cherry, plum, licorice, dark chocolate, espresso, pain grille, and cowhide leather. This is drinking beautifully now. Great balance between ripe fruit and Old World earthiness. Finishes long and juicy with hints of burnt toffee and tobacco. This is the best Finca Villacreces by far. Drink now until 2024.

last bottle of this from a purchase from a different of buying wine for me. This opened a bit tarry and heavy handed - like a one noted aglianico. The wine is a very dark purple and there are some roasted extracted elements lurking, but in the end and with ample air this was serviceable and fine. I would drink these up and with a 30 minute decant enjoy it. Right now, after a day in fridge and last glass, it has a bit of coffee, espresso roasted grape but with a touch of acidity to keep it in check. Fine, but ultimately not a re buy.

Still fantastic, but lost a measure of its excitement and differentiation. I guess nothing lasts forever. Even a $16 half-bottle of wine.

Holiday Spanish Wines 2015; 6/29/2015-7/12/2015: Charmingly accessible but also complex. Lots of juicy, fresh fruits of the forest, pine and a porcini savouriness. A bit of tomelo too. Good weight in the mouth but not heavy. Some muddy tannins leave their mark on the otherwise sweet and appealing finish. 14%

Decent wine. Nice notes of cherries, fig, tobacco. Wanted to like it more, but did not. I drank it the next day, but the wine did not improve. Lacked depth and body. I realize I may be asking for too much at this price point, but some of the reviews lead me to believe that this wine was special. I do not find it so. OK for one time tasting, but may pass on this one the next time.

From poorly stored 375, a little past peak. Could indicate this is a good time to start through the last of the 750s.

Carmine/purple at the rim - floral plum/cherry notes on the nose. Medium to full bodied, held slightly in restraint - a trifle dilute, well mannered but evident tannins - fresh, the structure is better than the fruit depth. However, far from ready - try again in two years.

Not a stunner, I think maybe on the way down now and past prime. Didn't do much for me and I really like this producer. I was hoping that holding this a decade would yield some dividends, but disappointed. Still drinkable but just meh. I would drink up --and maybe decant? (I didn't)

Color cereza picota, ribete violáceo-granatoso, capa tirando a alta y fina lágrima bien tintada.

Unpleasant meaty nose at first but after an hour or so the fruit started to come through with medium toast and soft tanins, pleasant drinking for a while but seemed to fall away towards the end of the bottle.

Breathed for 2 hour. Better to go with food to balance the acidity. Fresh red fruit in the nose and mouth. Soft and medium tannin. Medium finish.

Dull medium garnet red. Spicy raspberries and significant alcohol on the nose. Just-ripe raspberries, bitterness, and distant umami and lots of alcohol on the finish. Tasty but drinks very hot.

This is apparently from a vineyard next to Vega Sicilia. Dark ruby. Very chocolaty note with sweet spices. On the palate very fruity but lacking aromatic complexity and length for a higher score. I guess just being the neighbor is not enough. At ca 25$ the bottle, well done though.
