A very aromatic Chablis. Concentrated and great wine, by any means. A bit too characterized by barrique fermentation, which is typical for the Raveneau wines.

From Magnum. light to medium colour. Nose shows lemon, white fruit and the savoury and slightly earthy tones found in Raveneau. Only medium concentration and length. Structure seems sound.

Gorgeous, classic Chablis nose of green apples, chalk, river water with citrus zest. Palate is softer and lower acid given the hot vintage. Good salinity and minerality interlaced with white fruit. Time to drink this vintage, I'd reckon.

An incredible, gorgeous villages with plenty of everything... lemon, cheese, minerality, superb palate with olily texture, light but with an excellence balance of acidity, weight and structure. It smells and tastes Raveneau all over it. Too bad this is almost impossible to find around.

Still remarkably pale and primary appearing. Primary smelling too-saline and underripe lemon joined by white flowers as it warms. Lean, sharply focused, and crystalline. Only begrudgingly does it yield some lemon cream and texture, and that after being open for a good 2 hours. Thrilling in how long it has taken to unfold and its great potential over the next decade. This is the essence of the vintage rather than Raveneau's style.

The 2008 Raveneau Chablis ‘Chapelot’ 1er Cru is absolutely singing at 7 years of age. It has an aroma of iodine, citrus and butter. It is full in the mouth with great volume and loads of mineral. It is sharp and focussed with outstanding cut and length

bright clear pale lemon skin gold; nose is brackish & tidal pool, w/yellow orchard fruits; med+ bodied & intense; quite mineral, quinine, not as fat as anticipated, chalk dust, lemon pith, superb length. a rewarding bottle, worth holding, but don't see it improving substantially. married well w/ the crabs as expected, but the avocado played a great counterpoint.

va. softshell crab w/bread 'n butter pickle remoulade; roasted local carrots w/cumin & orange, avocado

Burgundy Dinner with a Friend (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Green apple and lemon aromas with floral hints. Ripe and intense apple and pear flavors with great oystershell and mineral character throughout. Very long and energetic with some lemon and lemon peel at the finish. This is an '06 with lots of life going forward.

Ravenau is the go to producer to lift my spirit and make me happy. Unlike the last bottle which showed tropical fruits, this is once again very precise and lean. It is all about saline, lanoline, honey and mineral. The fruit is white and cool, mountain stream, wax, strong presence of mineral and honey. Very good concentration, mineral and saline, cool citrus fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity and clean cool long finish. Not necessarily complex but just incredibly enjoyable.

Very clean nose, some lemon and broth elements. Surprisingly accessible palate, light with good flavor intensity and a surprising lack of acidity and grip for a young Raveneau. Drinking very well at this young age, with enough complexity to make it interesting.

Classic Raveneau. Beautiful balance between fruit (mostly lime), acidity, minerality and a very subtle touch of oak. Ripe vintage? Doesn't show here. Great example of power and elegance sharing the stage. Drinking beautifully. Neither disjointed in youth or extracted for the vintage.

Sunday Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Very pale in colour (a good sign). Definitely a softer, fatter Raveneau, with a bit of stewed fruit on the nose. This doesn't hold the same tension and acidity as Raveneau in the good years, but there's certainly a lot to like here. The lemon and chalk qualities that I've always expected are still present, if the salinity is a bit dilute. This is very well made in the context of the vintage, and when all is said and done, still a very good bottle of chardonnay in and of itself. Now, with that out of the way, I really wouldn't be holding this much longer. I don't see any upside to doing that.

Medium yellow. Underripe pineapple and saline notes. Medium bodied. Very flavorful ripe fruit balanced by decent acidity and brothiness. Far better than the last few bottles I've had of this, and also distinctly less advanced than the 2006 Clos poured for us in Chablis last month. Nonetheless, for drinking over the near term. A nice surprise in terms of the quality.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): slightly reductive for the first hour after it was popped-and-poured. With more air this came across as slightly more ripe/ opulent vs typical for Raveneau, but an excellent oystershell, mineral-driven, crunchy finish that really showcases power. Give this more time in the cellar.

PnP at a restaurant. I bit reticent on nose, barely shows some lemon, candy, honey... Palate also tight but gains complexity with air... delicious honeyed and oily texture, very mineral driven and a superb long finish. Obviously very young and a bit too much on the ripe side but very good overall. 92-94

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/15/2015-5/16/2015 (Chicago, IL): 2004 Raveneau is almost surely among some of the best things that have ever come from France. Intense citrus on the nose that just promises acidity in spades, and boy does it deliver. Classic Raveneau, marrying the intense citrus and super high acids with a lovely salinity. The finish is relaxed by a bit of chalkiness that helps calm everything else down.

Tonight this did not live up to the previous tasting notes. The aromatics were muted at best. The palate lacking any characteristic other than a watery chardonnay. Disappointing and I would not rebuy. I have to think that although this wasn't flawed, it is not representative of others experiences. No score given.
