Pale pale salmon color. Aromas of strawberry, grapefruit and minerals. Strongly chalky finish with great acidity. A delicate and distinctive rose with nice presence on the palate.

Tangerine, lime and zesty acidity come to mind when drinking this wine. Actually, the acidity seems to be a little bit high, even for Sancerre. But, it did go well with some Humbolt Fog.

Even lighter salmon-toned than the 2012 Pibarnon; nice nose, almost like springtime flowers after a rain, and closing with a citric note.

Nice, but comes across as slightly dilute on the palate. I think I have a preference on opening for the 2012 Pibarnon, but this wine is less "severe" and still quite refreshing on the palate. Also should be a good match for the grilled fish.

Pop and pour. Very clean on the palate with notes of lemon. Slightly saline and oily. Very refreshing on a summer evening. Yum.

Had I know that a $25-30 Sancerre would age this well, I would have grabbed cases of this. Based on the color, you would never think that this was an eight year old wine. There is an oxidative quality to the largely citrus driven fruit that gives it a richness and slightly dried quality. Ripe to red grapefruit is the dominant flavor, but it is buffered my lemons, limes and slight stone fruit / apricot notes. There is very little, if any, green notes left, but the fruit is grounded by a crushed rock like minerality and slight baking spices. The medium plus to high acid leads to a long finish that see the fruit taper off into a mouth watering salinity. If you really wanted to nitpick this, the nose isn't particularly intense, but it is still complex and very much in line with the rest of the wine. Really a surprise and an exceptional bottle. At $30 (although I think it might be more expensive now), this represents a tremendous value. I will almost certainly find some newer vintages to sock away, as I really regret drinking these years ago.

Very very enjoyable. Opened it on a nice summer evening. Not too many detailed notes (the paper notes are somewhat faded now). Lime orange on the nose and palate, great goldish color. On the dry side. @92-93

Pretty good but not as interesting as the Montenidoli Canaiuolo we've been enjoying this summer. This shows more pale red fruits, light melon and less dried herbs and saline. Light, tart and refreshing though and still in the upper echelon of roses to my tastes.

Light yellow. Distinctive nose of lime, jasmine and stone. On the palate, this had the weight and the bracing acidity of a grand cru Chablis, though the flavors were a bit too exotic. A terrific wine-I wish this wasn't my only bottle.

Plenty of lift to the aroma with a big lick of minerality coupled with crisp orchard fruits. There's a squeeze of grapefruit and a little tangerine I the mouth. It is gently grassy and finishes dry with saliva inducing chalkiness.

The Monts Damnés is another stunning 2012 from Boulay. On the nose the wine is bursting with lime, spearmint and botanicals (how much better is great Sancerre than Gin & Tonic?), and on the palate the minerality is just searing; the lovely acids, depth and purity, and really seem to go straight down to the soil of this spectacular vineyard. Great stuff, and its magic really needs more bottle age to unfurl.

Boulay's 2012 Clos de Beaujeau is a superb bottle of Sancerre, busting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of green gooseberry, bitter orange, lime and wet chalk. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with electric minerality and great acids. Right now the wine is still quite tight-knit, and will really unfurl over the coming decade, but it is already a bit more textural and gourmand than the more searingly stony corresponding vintage of Monts Damnées.

Slatey mineral bomb. The fruit is reserved, either being a bit closed or maybe just not that generous in 2010. It's got just enough right now to keep this from being out of balance but this is most notable for the acidity and clean line of the palate right now. Hints of grapfruit, quince and straw to remind you it is Sauv Blanc without beating you over the head with it. Juicy and acidic with a touch of grapefruity bite at the finish. Very nice.

It is hot in n/w Europe, I am talking sub sahara hot... Putting your nose into this wine already cools you down a couple of degrees. This is citrus galore, with white flowers some grass and bushy/herbal flavors. Salinity is definitely there as well (or was that a drop of sweat?). And we are in Sancerre, so "Kimmeridgien" chalky goodness is a given. Also in taste, but there is a certain richness to this as well, it is not lean. There is the slightest bit of cream in the taste that takes this to another level. Still undeniably sancerre. Finish is medium.

Feels more fuller bodied than the 2013, and I must confess a tiny bit more conventional SB at first approach on the nose. Still gains steam with air, becoming more pungent, but never feels airy. Still, we gladly finished it, but it lacks the elegance (for now? I think for this vintage) that swept me off my feet in the 2013.

Very sound light yellow. Some but not much varietal character on the nose. Pretty dumb all around, tasting fairly bland and dilute at first. It took about 90 minutes to come around and show more expected citrus, texture, and chalkiness, but it had nowhere near the level of intensity and driving minerality of previous bottles. No discrete flaws, just a very disappointing bottle.

Loire Valley Masterclass and Tasting: Floral, orange, lemon and flint. Great refreshment on the palate, there is some sweetness there but it falls into line with the acidity. Good length and depth to it. Needs some more time still to show its best.
