Pleasant nose. Good fruit, medium acidity, a little earthiness, tasty cherries, medium finish. I love this wine. Unfortunately this is the last of the Gary Farrell Carneros wines and mine too. I took another bottle to a PN tasting mos ago and this was the favorite. Well done.

Light red color. Hint of sweetness to the initial Taste. cherry is the dominant flavor with a touch of spice and a bit of a buttery finish.
Upon finishing, this is one of my favorite wines. Very impressed.

2012 Gary Farrell Pinot Noir Hallberg Vineyard

5/13/2015 - psundberg Likes this wine: 89 points

Consistent with my 10/2014 tasting notes, the Hallberg is a very nice Gary Farrell Pinot, well balanced with slight red fruit and not overly strawberry. This being said, I gave it a lower score of 89+ pts this time around, perhaps because I have had the opportunity to try many other good Pinots, but also maybe because it was a bit too cool. It opened up considerably once it warmed up a bit. We did a side-by-side with the widely distributed 2010 Russian River Selection and honestly the Hallberg came up a smidgen short. If both were on the shelf, I'd opt for the Russian River Selection for $25 less, but I will certainly look forward to future Hallbergs in my GF club shipments. Perhaps I just need to have a little patience and let it mature a couple years.

Beautiful mature example of Sonoma Cty Cab. Extremely mellow due to its' age. It probably wouldn't be any better if I had let it age longer. The classic cab character is all there but a bit muted by time. Perhaps a few years earlier and it would have shown a bit more intensity. It was like your favorite well worn and soft leather chair. I'll keep this empty bottle as a momento.

Nice basic level chardonnay from GF. Slightly less complex than the single vineyard wines, but still very good. Would recommend. Don't need to hold it any longer, but it's also not past its prime. Less rich than some, but long enough finish and good fruit.

At J & A's with the 2012. Light, delicate red color, showing some maturing flavors amidst the raspberry, tomato and herb notes. Not one to hold onto like the 2012, but very interesting to drink now and my favorite of the two.

At J & A's. Never had a Gary Farrell I didn't like, and this was no exception. Raspberry, cherry fruit, tomato leaf, mild spice. Fresh and lively.

Deep purple color. Aromas of dark fruit, blue fruit, roasted game and pepper. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and flavors of black fruit, licorice, spice and pepper. A little short on the finish.

Not bad. Feel like I've enjoyed other vintages better. Good fruit, nothing over the top or particularly lush. Solid, with some complexity. In a good spot.

Just enough floral notes to make it interesting without being overly fruit forward. A nice bit of typical Zin spice on the finish, combined with soft tannins. Probably at it's peak now, enjoy

What a pleasant surprise. Popped and poured x2 bottles and was thoroughly impressed. I love this style of California Pinot as it reminds me of Burgundy. A little "austere", but a great expression of terroir and and vintage. Nice style . . . favorable fruit and notes with cherry, black fruit and spice. Drinking very nice right now.

Pop/Pour. Solid dark leaning red fruit, which are especially bright and tasty on the mid palate which falls off a bit on the medium/short finish. The attack was odd as it initially felt a bit tired but the mid palate was full of fresh fruit. Very good, but not sure I would seek out again as one could do MUCH better for the price ($25-$45)

Had the 2009 Keefer Ranch about a week ago and thought that was better than this. The difference isn't that huge, but the Keefer was a bit richer, longer finish. This was of course still a very nice wine and went well with the scallops I made. Lush, in a good spot, drink up.

Have to say I was surprised how good of shape this was in. Really peaking and was a wonderful, rich, tropical flavored wine with notes of oak. Not always my style, but it was lush without being flabby and the age has helped it. Would recommend.

Superbe bouquet!

Served with Rosalie's home-cooked birthday dinner, a pepper-crusted tuna served over a soba noodle salad. The food had a bit of a bite to it, and this worked wonderfully with it. Bright golden color, a bit deeper than a younger Gary Farrell chardonnay. Lots of pears on the nose, with some toast and honeysuckle. The wine was smooth and round in the mouth, with pears, cooked pears and apples, with oak present but restrained. Long, pleasant finish. This was a classic rendition of California chardonnay, in the best sense. Rochioli fruit probably helped.

This had an interesting evolution. A little tannic surprisingly and tight when opened. Lots of bricking in the bottle. Not terribly complex, but full-bodied. Some of the spices in the vegetable stew I made were a little strong for the wine. Enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. My first GF syrah.
